The sunken living room is a sumptuous affair with its huge open fireplace, plush furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic vistas over the San Jacinto mountains. Watch the sunrise from the large L–shaped sofa, or take in sunset views from the sparkling drinks bar. No matter what time of day, your living backdrop will never cease to steal your breath away. The four large bedrooms are decked out in glamorous Hollywood Regency style with mirrored walls and a master spa-like shower adding to the interior’s swoon-worthy decadence. It’s the outdoors, though, that really steals the show. Head out to the dazzling boulder-framed pool that fits jigsaw-like into the surrounding cliffs. Take a dip after a morning spent soaking up the Californian sun and splash under the stunning waterfall feature. You'll also find a hot tub and a fire pit, both perfect for late-evening gatherings after a starlit alfresco dinner. When you’re not busy luxuriating in your cliffside oasis, explore the area's world-class golf courses, hiking trails and Palm Springs' downtown delights, all just a short drive away.

Cliffside Rocks

Nestled between Lake Arrowhead and majestic Big Bear Lake, this historic A-Frame home was the first of its kind in this special part of California. Now, you can experience its unique magic along with a whole range of luxurious amenities. From the cedar hot tub and outdoor fire pit to the cosy rooms and incredible views, this is the perfect setting for a rejuvenating retreat. There’s also plenty to keep you entertained with games, a barbecue and hiking trails straight from the door. Private parking is available for one car and it’s just a short drive to Running Springs, Sky-Park and Big Bear Lake.

Cupid's Cabin

Set in the exclusive resort city of Indian Wells, here you'll be surrounded by tennis courts, golf courses, spas, and country clubs. With its mid-century aesthetic and high-end amenities, it’s the kind of place you imagine featuring in an early season of Mad Men. There’s even a cocktail cart, so you can practise making Manhattans. Nothing here feels out of place – everything from the art to the bedding feels meticulously chosen for this specific space. Outside, you'll have a private courtyard to sit out in, and shared grounds to explore. There's a communal pool, volleyball court and grass spaces for games of Bocce ball. And if you do want to get out and explore, Palm Springs is a short drive away, while there are all sorts of hiking opportunities in the San Jacinto Mountains behind the home.

The Desert Martini

Live the jet-set lifestyle at this Palm Springs villa of grand entrances and epic proportions. On arrival you’ll discover an elegant Spanish colonial-style home, sprawling out luxuriously across one level. Slide open its French doors to reveal interiors worthy of a design magazine cover – vaulted ceilings, lofty bedrooms (each with their own bathroom and patio), and an achingly-cool living space that begs to be lounged around in. 

Carrying on outside, through magnificent gardens, you’ll discover a contemporary two-storey pool house that brings this place right into the 21st century, with one of the most well-equipped gyms we ever did see. But the star of the show has to be the pool and gardens. With 360-degree mountain vistas, soaring palm trees, lush lawns, and hummingbirds busy going about their day, there is no better place to be. Start the day with a few lengths in the pool and soak in the spa, before settling down on one of the many sun decks to catch some rays. 

When it’s time to rustle up a meal, fire up the barbecue in the impressive outdoor dining area, while friends gather around the fire pit. Or let a private chef take over in the gourmet kitchen, complete with a wine fridge and built-in coffee maker to cover off all the essentials. And should you be tempted to stray from this desert retreat, you’ll find downtown Palm Springs a mere fifteen minutes drive away. Though why you’d ever want to leave is anyone’s guess.

The Grand Entrance

It's an oasis of calm and solitude in the heart of the Palm Desert – for an ultra-private retreat to California, this home really hits the mark. With a sublime backdrop of the Santa Rosa mountains, a luscious green garden – complete with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, fire pit and an alfresco dining area – you'll be drawn to the great outdoors here. But, when you're not lying around in the backyard, spend time relaxing in the modern and breathable home with chic interiors, exposed beam ceilings, quirky animal print upholsteries and an egg-shaped swing seat. Start the day with your morning java around the sleek breakfast bar, while mapping out the day's adventure. Speaking of, you're just a twenty-two-minute drive from Coachella Valley and an eighteen-minute stroll to La Quinta's Old Town, so whether you're keen to explore the surrounding natural beauty or sample delicious South American cuisine, this location allows access to the best of both worlds. 

Lilypad

A home for California swell chasers to search out, this home will have you in the water in no time, with the sands of San Clemente a five-minute drive from your front door and some of SoCal's best beach breaks within an hour's drive.

However, that's not to say that if you're not a surf pro, you won't find something for you here. Your host provides some boogie boards for the kids and beach chairs for a slightly more sedate experience down at the beach. But a stay here isn't just about the coastline, with hiking trails, pristine golf courses, and shopping are all a stone's throw away. 

The vibrant home itself shouldn’t go without a mention – its shared roof terrace makes for a wonderful spot to watch the sunset over the sea. Indoors, the coastal inspiration is clear. Shades of blue give the bedrooms a sense of the sea, while a mix of wooden tables and shoreside inspired ornaments continues the theme in the living areas.

California Boardin'

From its chic interiors, individually designed bedrooms and exquisite rooftop terrace, To All A Goodnight is the perfect beach escape for a group of friends or families with kids. In order to maximise on the ocean views, this home has a reverse floor plan with the living area on the top floor. Spend your days whipping up delicious meals in the state-of-the-art kitchen, enjoy a movie night with the cosy fireplace, or indulge in magical sunsets from the deck. There is even an outdoor cooking station and a bar waiting for you. Although we wouldn’t blame you if you spent the entirety of your trip at this wonderful home, you’re also located just a mile from the beach and tonnes of great restaurants, cafes and shops. As far as we’re concerned, To All A Goodnight ticks just about every box.

To All A Goodnight

With two fully equipped kitchens, several lounges (inside and outside), and three en-suite bedrooms, this stunning home caters to those looking for a combination of privacy and social spaces. 

The Spanish hacienda-style home dates back to the 1950s, but it’s received a modern update with a healthy dose of mid-century modern furniture (you are after all in Palm Springs). The backyard is, without a doubt, the heart of the home. We loved the pool with jaw-dropping mountain views, and the fire pit that sets the scene for many nights spent stargazing in great company.

Wake up feeling energised and embark on challenging early morning hikes within a mile of your home, returning in time for brunch in one of the innovative farm-to-fork restaurants that you'll find tucked away in Downtown, a five-minute drive north. Afterwards, while away your days soaking up the sun by the saltwater pool, setting up a table football tournament in the games room and tucking into tantalising home-cooked meals beneath the pergola.

Orange Lemonade

Experience the beauty of slow living from this peaceful cabin nestled in the mountains of the San Bernardino National Forest. And, if relaxation is what you have in mind, this couldn’t be a better spot. From the soothing views and the calm interiors to the white noise machines and complimentary toiletries, every detail has been considered to create the ultimate escape. It’s also a great option for families with arcade games, board games, streaming services and plenty to explore in the surroundings. From here, it’s just a twelve-minute drive to Lake Arrowhead Village, plus hiking trails are within easy reach. 

Forest of Peace

Located among the desert planes, this dreamy home provides a unique getaway for a couple or solo adventurers. The terrace can be used for yoga, for which the host provides clean mats and we also love the outdoor hot and cold tubs, which cater perfectly to the different desert temperatures. Though the location feels very remote, it’s only a twenty-minute drive to Joshua Tree, where you can grab a bite to eat and do your groceries. Joshua Tree National Park is also at a similar distance and an absolute must visit.  

The Desert Sunflower

Set in over an acre of private desert, The Sundial is as characteristic a piece of modern desert architecture as you’ll see. The home is enveloped by the stillness and tranquility that comes with such isolation – evenings spent on the terrace beneath the stars offer a different speed of life to the city. The views of the national park at sunset are breathtaking, and the way that the interiors open up to nature, framing the vistas, is unique. It’s also worth mentioning that the location is pretty convenient. Despite the feeling of complete seclusion, downtown Joshua Tree is about five minutes away, with Palm Springs less than hour. And Michael and his team go the extra mile in their levels of service, providing a dedicated hospitality concierge in order to help you arrange anything you want or need.

The Sundial

Go to bed after watching the spectacular sunset over the Pacific and wake up to the sound of the crashing waves at this jaw-dropping beachfront home in the surfside city of San Clemente. 

Contemporary coastal cool is the order of the day, with plenty of light wood, fresh blue furnishings and pristine white walls, all accentuated by the sunlight that pours in 342 days a year through large windows and retractable glass doors that look out over the ocean.

There's plenty of space for all the family, with large open living spaces, a stunning modern kitchen with eye-catching quartz worktops, a dedicated games room with a billiards table, plus a lovely office to make the idea of working while on holiday a little more palatable. 

Sleeping arrangements are taken care of across five spacious bedrooms. A large loft room packed with games and a console allows you to leave the kids to it as you enjoy a glass of something cold out on the covered terrace, or lay out on a lounger on the promontory pointing out to sea.

If the call of the ocean proves too much, you won't have to walk far to access Lost Winds beach below. With consistent surf, volleyball courts, and the opportunity to jog or cycle along the 2.6-mile beach trail, there's plenty on offer here. However, seasoned surfers might want to check out nearby breaks including Trestles, T Street and San Onofre. Lowers (at Trestles beach) is the best of the bunch and the home of high performance surfing. Sometimes it's best just to sit back and marvel at the pros.

After a day of adrenaline-pumping activity, cooking may well be the last thing on your mind. Handily, San Clemente is home to a wide array of restaurants serving everything from American comfort food, farm-to-table fare and creative Mexican classics washed down with a mescal.
