If you’re not hitting the building’s private gym, perhaps take a jog through Bedwell Bayfront Park, a five-minute walk away. For a day out in the city, San Francisco is just a half-hour drive away (or fifty minutes on the train from Redwood). 

Apart from a private gym, the building is also home to a huge outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by outdoor lounges with fire pits for cool evenings. There are myriad cafés and lounges inside, and a plush barbecue area outside on the deck too. The apartment itself is big and bright, with modern artworks popping against gallery-white walls. The living room is made for unwinding, but there’s also a laptop-friendly desk should you need to work remotely. This home might be close to Stanford University, but it's a million miles away from your average student house. In fact, parts of it feel more like a learned professor's seminar room, from the shelves packed full of books and the grand piano, to the historic paintings hanging on the walls. This Victorian-style home caught our eye for its great location in the heart of Noe Valley. San Francisco’s iconic cable car runs just in front of the building to whisk you away to all the famous tourist spots, and you’ve got 24th Street, with its bakeries, cafes, and cheese and wine shops, on your doorstep. And when you’re not busy sightseeing, you can relax on the private, sunny balcony or enjoy a meal around the ten-seater dining table. While babies and teenagers are welcome here, the home isn’t suitable for children aged 2 to 12.

Located in Noe Valley (a family-friendly area right by the Mission District and Castro) you can’t help but feel at home from the offset. The interiors feel warm, plush, and playful. We love how some of the pieces play on transitional versus modern – the wire-sculpted moose head above the fireplace, and an angular chandelier in the lounge, alongside original paintings and photography prints. The living spaces are all connected, leading outdoors to decking and a leafy garden. Start the morning out here with the free weights or on the yoga mat like a true Californian. After lunch, pop on the record player or have a tinkle on the piano by the beautiful windows. For the little ones, you’ve got your very own playroom filled with kids toys and books. For a day out, gather the family and head twenty minutes up Twin Peaks for spectacular views of the city. About twenty minutes in the other direction will take you into the Mission. Get a babysitter (your host can help you out with recommendations) and head out for wine bars, excellent restaurants, and perhaps a cocktail to round off the evening.

While the area is known for its many cycling and walking paths, you can also easily explore further afield.
