Your hosts have lovingly created a space that invites you to relax, recuperate and engage in creative projects for a vacation you won't soon forget. They've even gathered a series of recipes from professional chefs, developed specifically for the cabin. Filled with original works of art and surrounded by mountains, this lodge is a haven for those that need to get away from the everyday hustle and bustle. Once you book, your hosts will put you in touch with a personal concierge who can take care of everything. Get cosy and comfortable in front of the fire, enjoy lavish dinners under the vaulted ceiling, go for long walks in nature (the Pine Mountain hiking trails are five minutes away) and be sure to sit out at night and gaze up at the stars.

We're rolling out the red carpet with this mega-mansion set within an exclusive country club in the Camarillo hillsides. Tailor-made for a large group escape, every corner of this home is beautifully curated. The on-site cinema room, gym, games room, showstopping pool and alfresco dining pavilion will keep you entertained from day to night. But for a change of scene, the country club's shared 18-hole golf course, fitness facilities and on-site restaurant are just a golf-buggy ride away. You'll need a car for anything else – but that's nothing new in California, where the car is king.  

In the Dream House

Imagine waking up to the calming sound of the water flowing or working from the desk space overlooking the stream. This home may be simple in style but it's such a peaceful haven. We see it working for a short romantic break but also as a writer's retreat for those needing a quiet setting to get work done and meet some important deadlines. The private yard is a great addition for outdoor living when the weather is good, and here in Montecito that's almost guaranteed. Park your car for the duration of your stay and make use of the bicycles provided, as all the local attractions are within riding distance, including the Butterfly and Miramar beaches for those looking to cool off with a dip in the ocean.

El Arroyo En Montecito

Full of personalised little touches and less than ten minutes from downtown Santa Barbara, this modern coastal cottage is an Instagrammer's dream. From the outside, it takes inspiration from industrial-style shipping containers, while inside the home's muted palette and minimalist design induces a peaceful serenity. A couple or solo traveller will find it delivers a faultless experience – from the brand-new, bespoke kitchen to an always-perfect temperature, thanks to the air conditioning. Although when the weather is mild, we recommend opening the French doors and allowing indoor and outdoor spaces to become one. Sit out on your private yard, sip your morning coffee and plan the day ahead. Hop on one of the beach cruisers and feel your feet in the sand in just a few minutes, then head to Coast Village Road for the best restaurants and a spot of shopping.

Pacific Shipping

Architecturally, we really enjoy this home. It's not your typical boxed house, but a more rounded avant-garde affair with a bright upstairs floor. Natural light is the prime asset in Bright Moments as this whole home is built with huge windows, translucent materials, and light shades that open up the space and make it look even bigger. The furniture is high quality, with a minimalist flair but also with a certain sixties touch. The kitchen is well-equipped with anything you might need to put together an elaborate meal, and there's a shaded terrace downstairs for hotter days and another one above it. You'll always have a neat view from this home, especially since the popular Padaro Beach is only fifty yards away. A typical day in this home will mostly consist of lounging about and short trips to the beach for a swim — and to us that sounds just perfect.

Bright Moments

Dreaming of sunny California? This luxury beach house captures the best that the Golden State has to offer. Roll out of bed and onto the beach to surf amongst tousel-haired locals. If you can’t catch a wave, you’ll be sure to see someone else do it from the living room’s ocean-facing windows. The sea is never far away, with stunning vistas to be found from the dining room to the spacious master bedroom. The interior is modern and minimal, mixing seaside chic with contemporary design. We especially love the sofas made from reclaimed wood; cosy up beside the gas fireplace and catch a movie on the 60” flat-screen TV. There’s even more fun to be had outside. Top up your Californian tan on the sundeck and then cool off in the private pool. In the evening, fry up a feast with the family on the BBQ and crack open a beer beside the firepit. 

Golden State

Escape from the stress of urban life with a stay in this charming log cabin, surrounded by ancient pine forests. With breathtaking walks right from your doorstep, a fantastic board game collection, and little-to-no phone signal, you are guaranteed to come back from this trip feeling completely invigorated.

A small family or group of four, plus any well-behaved pets, can spend some quality time together in the tranquil setting. Sit around the crackling fireplace on chilly nights or barbecue under the stars on a balmy summer's night. 

Rustic yet intimate, the interior feels like you're tucked away as California's little secret. The peaceful ambiance is ideal if you're looking to work on a creative project and need a place to let your ideas flow.

Outside of the retreat, the encompassing scenery is adorned by enticing walking trails. Follow the winding paths through the exotic flora and fauna that decorate the rural landscape. It's like walking through a magical fairytale.

With the ability to accommodate up to eight guests, Land of Summer is the perfect getaway for a group of friends or a family. Nestled between Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean, this home offers the best of both worlds. Spend your time chilling at the beach, playing in the sand or learning a new water sport. Then head out to the vibrant restaurants and bars in the area for a fun evening on the town – your hosts will let you know their favourite spots. Back at home, a steaming hot tub with sea views awaits you.  

Land of Summer

Nature lovers will feel perfectly at home in this earth-friendly Ojai ranch. Nestled among citrus and avocado trees, you’ll find this rustic sanctuary filled with handcrafted art and hidden treasures. The house also features a water purification system, biodegradable essentials and plenty of cosy nooks to read, relax or catch up on work. Outside, you can enjoy warm evenings swaying in the hammock and watching the stars while gathered around the fire pit. There is also a clay tennis court and plenty to explore in the surroundings. From here, it’s less than a ten-minute drive to Downtown Ojai. 

Moonlight Kingdom

Nestled into the breathtaking landscape of the Ojai Valley, this traditional hacienda has been completely reimagined to create a space of serenity and calmness with luxurious and modern finishes for the twenty-first-century traveller. Sitting on five acres of private land, there's a pool and spa area, an outdoor kitchen and fire pit, a yoga platform, and lots of fun activities for children and adults. Ataraxia is made up of two distinct homes: a modern structure that oozes relaxed luxury as it wraps itself around the outdoor entertaining area, while the property's original hacienda has been fully refurbished to create a tranquil guest house. Carmencita is a home we'd expect to see in a movie. With its quaint factor off the charts, this home is a fantastic stay for both families or groups of wanderlusting friends. There's simply so much light, which makes every day a sight to behold. All walls of this home are equipped with windows wherever there's space for them, and thanks to the warm climate, this means you're always privy to the sun and the breeze. The furniture is relaxed with a beach-chic undertone but mostly focused on softness and relaxation — as any holiday home should. We also loved the patio and the perfectly trimmed garden. You'll be staying near the Miramar, Hammonds, and Butterfly beaches, and within walking distance to Rosewood Miramar Resort, filled with great food and entertainment. So if you're looking for your next relaxing holiday, Carmencita is a great option.
