Inside, the spacious apartment blends original nineteenth-century features and modern finishes offering a breathtaking fusion of styles. An open-plan living room/kitchen provides direct access to the outdoors via a balcony, alongside expansive views over downtown. So there's plenty of space to come together and socialise, whether you're stretched out on the sofa or preparing dinner in the handcrafted kitchen. 

Elsewhere, the bedrooms offer a haven of zen-like calm in the middle of Manhattan, with walk-in wardrobes and a Carrara marble en-suite off the main bedroom, adding a touch of luxury. Head upstairs, and you'll uncover a rooftop terrace that offers direct southern vistas over Washington Square Park, MacDougal Alley and the Empire State Building.

While this isn't the most luxurious home on our books, it's cosy and bright, a fluid mix of rustic and modern.

This apartment is ideally suited to those looking to drop their bags and head out from the get-go. Its major draw is the fabulous location, placing you in the thick of NYC. Just a short walk away you'll reach the iconic Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, and Union Square – though this does mean that some noise should be expected. Inside, it's surprisingly spacious for a studio flat, with a kitchen and dining area tucked neatly around the corner. There's a sofa bed for flexible sleeping, but we only recommend this for younger children.

Try a different one every day between visiting Rockefeller Park, Washington Square Park and China Town.  There's plenty else to see within walking distance, but the public transport links nearby can also get you to The Empire State Building or Manhattan Park in minutes.  That's a thumb's up on location – now throw in light-letting oversized windows, plenty of space and an office, and you're onto something.

Located just off Stuyvesant Square Park, this practical apartment is surrounded by peaceful open spaces all while placing you in the heart of nonstop NYC. You're also a short walk from leafy Union Square, with plenty of casual eateries and bars nearby. Back home, the space is bright and comfortable with the large windows framing pleasant green views. While there's no desk here, the dining table doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace for those in the city on business.

Stepping in to look around at the decor, you'll find plenty of light wood furnishings and wood-slatted blinds, vibrant pops of colour, tasteful artwork and playful cloud-shaped cushions that we really loved. It's quiet, understated, and extremely functional. Enjoy a good book in the breathable and refreshing living space made of natural materials and traditional craftsmanship. Take a long soak in the stone and wood bathroom, whip up a few lite bites in the pristine island kitchen, or pen your thoughts at the antique public library desk – whatever you do around this peaceful apartment, you'll be perfectly at ease. Out back there is even a small terrace for some fresh air, enclosed by leafy trees for a naturally private space. The neighbourhood is authentically residential Brooklyn, lined with trees and townhouses with their iconic stoops. Take a wander by the casual eateries, hip bars and indie shops, before reaching the beautiful expanse of Prospect Park, only a twenty-minute stroll from your door.

Built in 1796, this red-brick townhouse is one of the oldest houses in New York City. While the exterior is a beautiful example of Federal architecture, the interior is all modernity with a sleek gourmet kitchen to please the fussiest of chefs and a huge main bedroom with a free-standing tub in the loft. Those working remotely can make use of the dedicated office room and there are additional workstations in some of the bedrooms. There’s plenty of room to spread out between the main lounge, the movie room downstairs and the private backyard furnished with a dining table.

Warm and cosy, despite New York City's cold temperatures come winter (don't worry there's air conditioning for the summer months too), this little alcove of an apartment is both a humble and practical choice to enjoy while in town on a short trip. Perfect for solo travellers or couples, in particular, you'll be amidst all of Manhattan's action here. While the location is this home's biggest attraction, its clean white interiors and studio layout invite guests to catch some respite with ease and comfort between activities from day through to night – you are in the city that never sleeps after all. Located just down the road from the Tenement Museum, the apartment sits in one of New York's most historic (and most authentic) neighbourhoods. The Lower East Side is known for its careful balance of grunge and chic, so if you're after a true New York experience (in terms of space as well), this is a great choice in an even better location. And since you’re so close to some of the best boutique shops, restaurants and bars in the city, chances are you’re likely to spend more time out than in, which makes this the perfect place to come back to after a busy day.

We love this stylish home's location in hip Tribeca, a neighbourhood known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants. Chinatown is a twenty-minute walk or eight-minute ride, while the One World Trade Centre is eight minutes on foot. The iconic Empire State building is a fifteen-minute drive (just over twenty minutes on the bicycles your lovely host Yvonne provides), or if you fancy some green space, Washington Market Park is a mere two-minute stroll.

Back at this apartment, head up to the gorgeous, private roof terrace and take in the views over the Freedom Tower. Inside, textural 3D artworks adorn the walls, and dark oak floors are enlivened with colourful rugs and furnishings. For the kids, there's a fantastic play area with plenty of toys, books and games. There's a home cinema set up too. Our favourite feature, though, has to be the swing in the living area – so random and yet so right. This playful home is perfect for a family.





It Don’t Mean a Thing if It Ain’t Got That Swing	

Dive headfirst into the ultimate New York experience. This home has a chef's kitchen and a barbecue for meals on the private terrace, as well as an outdoor lounge for post-dinner drinks. Plus, with a Peloton bike and Lululemon Studio Workout Mirror, you'll find everything you need to stay on top of your workouts. Though the space feels calm, the city sounds will gently remind you that you're in the heart of the Big Apple. Just outside, the galleries and restaurants of Union Square and NoHo are waiting to be explored. However, we won't blame you if the allure of an evening at home with a martini in the garden followed by a soak in the marble tub proves irresistible.

All the typical elements are here – we're talking an open, spacious living space with high ceilings, towering columns, huge windows and wooden floors.

What sets this home apart from others, though, is its fabulous art collection and many pieces from luminary designers such as Gerrit Rietveld and Sori Yanagi, as well as light sculptures by Marrow Project. We could certainly tell on viewing that this apartment is owned by a creative director and designer. Select a bottle from the wine cooler, choose one of the books off the well-stocked shelves and relax in style.

You can really live like a local in this home's location as well. This Lower Manhattan neighbourhood is known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants or soak up the atmosphere in nearby China Town. Oh, yes and if you're a film buff, you can get your fill with the Tribeca Film Festival, held here every June.

The refrigerator is a taffy pink, and the bar chairs are a dusty rose, but the host has also successfully broken up these bold strokes of pink with darker colours to humble the playful space. This Lower East Side location is really special for multiple reasons. Not only are there tonnes of things to do in this authentic neighbourhood, but guests will have the privilege of looking straight at artist Shepard Fairey’s newest mural of actress and activist, Rosario Dawson, visible from every window of the apartment.

While this home may be modest in square footage, it sure is mighty. Packing a punch in both convenience and amenities, a solo traveller or couple will be very happy here. With an impressive private terrace – that's almost as big as the home itself – you can thoroughly enjoy some downtime after a busy day with an aperitif under the stars. When you do find yourself at home, there's a comfortable sofa, writing desk and kitted-out kitchen complete with washer and dryer – a rarity in an NYC studio – so you can show up and start living as soon as you arrive. And did we mention that it's only a ten-minute walk to the Flatiron building? We especially love the fish tanks that your host so lovingly tends to – the neon colors add excitement and beauty to even the quietest of nights in. As you’d expect from a studio, space is limited here, but you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable stay in the city. If you’re travelling for business, the desk makes remote working a breeze, while the outdoor terrace is an added bonus – just the spot to relax in after a day of sightseeing.

This charming duplex lies in Manhattan's West Village. Spread over multiple levels with the kitchen up on the mezzanine, groups will have plenty of space here, though you'll need to climb a lot of stairs. If you're looking for a home base while working remotely, you'll find computer equipment and standing desks to maximise productivity. The private garden is spread over two tiers and is equipped for barbecues, with outdoor seating and sun loungers. Sip a glass of wine while watching the sun set from the bedroom window, then settle in for a comfortable night’s sleep. You’ll wish you were staying longer.

Sure, the stripped-back and fuss-free style may not be to everyone’s taste, and it’s quite small in places – the bedroom and kitchen, in particular. But that aside, you’ll find all the essentials needed for a relaxing stay. In the area for work? The dedicated workplace is just the spot to catch up on emails when you’re away from the office. There's also a sofa bed for the third and fourth guests, though as space is lacking, we think this pad is better for two.
