Walking into this home is like taking a step back in time, with wooden panelled walls, heritage quilts lying across cosy corner beds and an imposing, traditional brick chimney. Despite the classic decor, this home resists resting on the laurels of nostalgia, with contemporary touches like the state-of-the-art kitchen and high ceilings making it a thoroughly modern getaway. Our favourite part though, has to be the floor-to-ceiling glass walls in the living space – settle down with a crackling fire and mug of hot chocolate and gaze out into the Hamptons woodlands. The home is right across from a bird sanctuary, so bring your binoculars and you might even spot one of the magnificent birds of prey that swoop through the coastal forests.

Hawk's Crest

Venture out to the furthest tip of Long Island, and you’ll discover a home so peaceful you’ll hardly believe it’s less than three hours from NYC. This four-bedroom house feels like a true sanctuary, hidden away from the tourist bustle of the Hamptons in a thicket of white-blossomed trees and lush lawns. We challenge you not to find some calm here; sink into the pristine pool, curl up with a book in the basket chair on the sunny balcony or simply lounge in front of the fireplace in the double-storey living room. Surrounded by forest on all sides, this home may feel secluded, but a ten-minute drive will have you lounging on golden sands at Indian Wells Beach, the East Hamptons’ Main Beach – or conversely, avoid the sand bunkers at the East Hamptons golf course. 

Sing Blue

A former beach house, this home has been completely renovated and it shows. Families travelling with little ones will appreciate the gunite pool and vast outdoor space, while the firepit, hot tub and patio are perfect for evening drinks and dining. The living room seats and indoor dining table don't quite have room for everyone when the home is at capacity, but there is plenty of space, and several bedrooms open directly onto outdoor seating. Nearby, you'll find the eateries and bars of Amagansett, and several beaches facing out over the Atlantic.

Ranch in the East

This home has got long, lazy summer days in The Hamptons sorted. The beach and Napeague State Park are a short drive away, but you might find it hard to drag yourself out of the house. From the two decks filled with luxury sofas and daybeds, to the movie room with wet bar, and a sparkling pool, this home is as superlative as the location it finds itself in. It’s newly built and filled with homely touches – the pastel pink dining room adds warmth to an otherwise neutral palette, there’s a fireplace in the living room to cosy up beside, a bedroom to suit every age and a vast freestanding bath tub to unwind in. But really, stays here will be all about soaking up the sunshine in the many outdoor living spaces – will it be relaxing in the hot tub, or sipping a refreshing cocktail on the deck? And as the sun starts to set, there’s no need to head to inside as you’ve got a fire pit to gather round and savour every last moment of the day. 

Solstice Rise

It might not be as famous as its neighbours, but that’s exactly what we like about Amagansett. This village has down-to-earth charm to spare, and so does this gorgeous home in the heart of the action. Inside you’ll find it’s utterly elegant but warm and welcoming, with its cool blue den, modern kitchen and bright, double height living space. There are fun nautical touches and bold design choices, adding character and flair. Out in the garden there’s a beautiful pool, plus an immaculate lawn for playing games, and a fire pit and barbecue for summer evenings. You’re just a short walk from Amagansett Beach, and there four bikes provided for you.

Salt And Pepper

This historic Hamptons home looks like it fell out the pages of a Great American novel – all rural charm and period features. Underneath that, this restored eighteenth-century farmhouse boasts modern details that are bound to make your holiday perfect. In the living room, curl up in front of the hearth with a book, admiring the views out to the surrounding woods. Wake up with a workout in the cosy attic space, or just soak up the sea air with a coffee in the garden. You'll also feel right at home in the country-style kitchen, but we're sure you'd rather cook meals on the grill outside in the sunshine. Take a dip in the swimming pool or just relax with a cold drink on the terrace. It's a twenty-minute walk to Atlantic Avenue Beach, but you might decide to walk into Amagansett to explore the coffee shops and boutiques. In the evening, gather with family and friends around the fire pit or unwind with a drink in the library. 

Ms Alcott

This wood-panelled home between Amagansett and East Hampton is a cosy spot for a trip with friends or family. With plenty of space both inside and out, and easy access to the beach, you're guaranteed to make some wonderful memories during your stay. 

There's a formal living room complete with a roaring fireplace, along with a second lounge that's perfect for playing board games or listening to music. You'll also find a fitness space and a play area to keep both your big guests and little ones busy. Outside, there's a sparkling swimming pool, where you can cool off on hot summer days, before soaking up the sun on a lounger. And, come evening, gather your guests on the porch to enjoy some delicious cocktails before you fire up the grill for an alfresco feast. 

Two Mile Hollow Beach is just a five-minute drive away, or you can hop on the bike provided by your host and cycle down to the oceanfront for a day on the sand. After you've spent a day splashing around in the water, rinse off and head into East Hampton or Amagansett for dinner and some drinks. And, if you're a golf fan, you're in luck – there are a few courses nearby, and the closest one is just a six-minute drive away from your front door. 

Secret Hollow

If you’re looking for a proper seaside escape with a group of your nearest and dearest, here it is. This home is so close to the sea, you can hear the waves rolling into the ocean as you sip your wine on the terrace. But let’s start by taking a look inside. The open living area is simultaneously enormous yet cosy, with the big corner sofa and armchairs creating a nice space for you to gather together around the fireplace in front of a film. The beach-house theme – white walls with pops of blue – works nicely with all that natural light coming in from the floor-to-ceiling windows. The kitchen has everything up to ten people could possibly need, including that all-important coffee machine. Back to that gorgeous terrace – here is where to come for connecting to nature. Sink into a lounger and listen as the trees sway around you to the sound of the sea. Or grab a towel and enjoy more of the same from the hot tub. The lawn is big enough for little ones to play tag while grownups gather around the firepit. Beyond the home, a private beach is just a few paces away. Or borrow a complimentary bike and explore the nearby town and beaches.  

Home by the Sea

Space pays in The Hamptons, as New York's elite jostle for a patch on the sand come summer. You needn't worry about the crowds at this red brick home, however, with its large gardens and private path to Bay Beach. Decamp here over warmer months for chilled out days on the veranda, by the pool, in the sauna, in the hot tub... the only stressful decision seems to be where to relax. Inside, an open-plan living room and dining room have got enough space for everyone to congregate for card games or accounts of their days exploring East Hampton, which can be discovered on the home's two adult bikes. For those who want to up the ante, pull out the table tennis table and start a friendly competition. This is your space in The Hamptons, and you may never want to leave.

Hazy Meandering

The chic, charcoal exterior to this manor-like home totally encapsulates New York riches and royals – welcome to The Hamptons. On your own private, wooded cul-de-sac lies this hidden home, with enough greenery and shade to rival the classic blue and white theme that iconises this coastline. Not to worry, the sand and sea might be out of view, but they are never out of reach. Close to Amagansett village, bay and ocean beaches, parks, and the farmers' market, you are perfectly situated in your own little (or rather large) bubble, capable of bursting it to venture into Long Island life whenever you so wish. A popular escape for the summer months, the light and bright whites of the interiors reflect the sunlight around the space, whilst cosier nooks in the library with its open fire make their own warmth in winter. An impressive guitar collection – presented like artwork on the walls – brings a sense of fun to the lower-level media room, and there's also a sauna and gym if you fancy working up a sweat. Your hosts will provide beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas, so all you have to do is firmly plant yourself on the sand, where you will probably remain for most of your stay.
