Down at street level, the delights of Greenwich Village await. Undoubtedly Manhattan's most charming neighbourhood, it's attracted the city's quirky and creative types since the sixties. Uproarious comedy clubs and excellent restaurants make it a real nighttime destination, but there's plenty to do during daylight hours. Stroll half a block to the much-loved Washington Square Park, lay out on Pier 45, or wander up to Chelsea Market for cuisine from every part of the globe – both fifteen minutes away.

There's nowhere that says New York living quite like a loft – it's as New York as skyscrapers, Times Square and Central Park, and this stylish place in hip Tribeca is a classic example. All the typical elements are here – we're talking an open, spacious living space with high ceilings, towering columns, huge windows and wooden floors.

What sets this home apart from others, though, is its fabulous art collection and many pieces from luminary designers such as Gerrit Rietveld and Sori Yanagi, as well as light sculptures by Marrow Project. We could certainly tell on viewing that this apartment is owned by a creative director and designer. Select a bottle from the wine cooler, choose one of the books off the well-stocked shelves and relax in style.

You can really live like a local in this home's location as well. This Lower Manhattan neighbourhood is known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants or soak up the atmosphere in nearby China Town. Oh, yes and if you're a film buff, you can get your fill with the Tribeca Film Festival, held here every June.

Location is everything here! Situated on a really charming street in Greenwich Village, The Itty-Bitty is perfectly positioned to some of the city's best restaurants and bars. This is a 300-square foot walk-up, but so long as you don't intend to do some serious cooking or massively spread out, this cosy apartment will do just the trick.

We love this stylish home's location in hip Tribeca, a neighbourhood known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants. Chinatown is a twenty-minute walk or eight-minute ride, while the One World Trade Centre is eight minutes on foot. The iconic Empire State building is a fifteen-minute drive (just over twenty minutes on the bicycles your lovely host Yvonne provides), or if you fancy some green space, Washington Market Park is a mere two-minute stroll.

Back at this apartment, head up to the gorgeous, private roof terrace and take in the views over the Freedom Tower. Inside, textural 3D artworks adorn the walls, and dark oak floors are enlivened with colourful rugs and furnishings. For the kids, there's a fantastic play area with plenty of toys, books and games. There's a home cinema set up too. Our favourite feature, though, has to be the swing in the living area – so random and yet so right. This playful home is perfect for a family.

From the moment you step inside this New York loft apartment, you can tell the owners are an artist and a chef. The huge, open living area has a gourmet-level kitchen and light floods in from a wall of windows, plus there's an incredible art and design collection. One bedroom is a little small but both are perfectly comfortable and the vast loft-style living area makes up for it. You’re in the heart of Tribeca here where the movie-set-like cast iron loft buildings are home to endless restaurants, bars and even food markets. Plus, the Lower East Side is right next door.

The contemporary design hits just the right note of comfort and cool, and its modern bathrooms offer luxurious relaxation—we’d be making a beeline for that Jacuzzi bath. After a hot coffee at the breakfast bar and placing a bottle of wine in the cooler for later, it’s time to get stuck into your NoHo locale. Situated just east of Broadway, connecting you to the heart of the dazzling Theatre District, and adjacent to the bohemian East Village, where you’re in touching distance of endless old-school bars, cool cocktail lounges, vintage shops and hip restaurants. If you want to head outside of Lower Manhattan, Bleecker Street subway station is a two-minute walk away.

Located in lively Greenwich Village, this bright apartment is trendy inside and out. From here, you're a short walk from countless eateries, cafes, jazz clubs, and off-broadway theatres, so there's plenty to fill your days right on your doorstep. While we love the stylish interiors, living space is limited, so we suggest packing light and a maximum of five people. It's also worth noting that the kitchenette is only suitable for preparing lighter bites, so you'll generally have to order in or sample the local restaurants when it comes to dinnertime.

Location is really the biggest perk here: sandwiched between Soho and the West Village, you're right in the heart of all the downtown action. Whether you're a culture vulture keen on gallery hopping and ducking into jazz bars, or a fashionista ready to do some damage in one of the world's best neighbourhoods for shopping, you'll be in the thick of it all – plus the dining and nightlife options are some of the best the city has to offer.

This charming duplex lies in Manhattan's West Village. Spread over multiple levels with the kitchen up on the mezzanine, groups will have plenty of space here, though you'll need to climb a lot of stairs. If you're looking for a home base while working remotely, you'll find computer equipment and standing desks to maximise productivity. The private garden is spread over two tiers and is equipped for barbecues, with outdoor seating and sun loungers. While children and little ones aren't permitted, we think friend groups will love it here thanks to its proximity to bars, restaurants and shops.

Madison Square South

Experience one of New York's trendiest areas from this eclectic loft, nestled in the heart of Soho. With a well-equipped kitchen, breakfast bar and dining table, there's potential for eating in, but the cafes and restaurants lining the streets just outside your doorstep might convince you otherwise. Try a different one every day between visiting Rockefeller Park, Washington Square Park and China Town.  There's plenty else to see within walking distance, but the public transport links nearby can also get you to The Empire State Building or Manhattan Park in minutes.  That's a thumb's up on location – now throw in light-letting oversized windows, plenty of space and an office, and you're onto something.

The bedrooms are on the small side, but the beds are seriously comfortable, with a TV in both. It feels a bit compact, especially with the narrow shape of the kitchen and the dining table taking up most of the communal space. Nonetheless, the location in Nolita makes up for this – surrounded by little shops and cool restaurants, you won’t be spending much time cooking anyway.

Just a four-minute walk to the Hudson River Park, you can spend relaxing moments watching the waters and the world go by. Start your mornings here with a coffee and bagel, and then work up a sweat in the building’s on-site gym. 

Go for leisurely stroll alongside The High Line – which is reachable in just twelve minutes on foot from your door. Or, explore the cafes, bars, and galleries of the West Village – which is a short nine-minute walk away. 

Greenwich village – with its historic LGBT+ venue, The Stonewall Inn – is also not far away, and can be reached within just nine minutes on foot. Plus, New York’s great public transport means you can see everything the city has to offer from the Flat Iron building and Empire State – reachable in roughly fourteen minutes to the Rockefeller Center – reachable in twenty-six minutes. Whatever’s on your New York bucket list, this home is in a prime location to reach it all.

One of the biggest drawbacks of working from home is how personal living quarters can soon start to look, and feel, like the office. However, it's a fate that this recently renovated townhouse in Greenwich Village manages to avoid. The property is very much geared towards those who can ply their trade without having to do the morning commute, thanks to the Rove workstations in every bedroom and media room, which feature electric standing desks, ergonomic chairs and Logitech hardware. The high ceilings and large windows also make the living area a joy to host meetings or client catch-ups. However, as a result of the lavish amount of internal space, there are plenty of spots where you can escape emails — the private roof deck with a barbecue grill and a view of some of New York's skyscrapers, for instance, or on the saddle of the Peloton bike. What's more, the Lower Manhattan location is perfect for those needing a balance between work and play. The Financial District is a ten-minute cab ride away, while there are jazz clubs and fancy restaurants aplenty in the surrounding neighbourhood for when you want to relax.

Located in the gloriously photogenic neighbourhood of Greenwich Village, Frida & Friends is a delight. Brimming with character and natural light, the open-plan living space is a real showstopper. We love the huge sash windows and stylish flourishes throughout. The wood in the kitchen is sourced from an Italian railway station, and this is a typical anecdote: it's a home that's been lovingly crafted by its stylish hosts and everything has a story. It's set across three levels so there's a fair amount of up and down but we won't hold this against an otherwise entirely loveable pad.

Frida & Friends

If you're architecturally-minded and like the idea of staying in an elegant home with original period features, sash windows and the like, and want to be in a super central, hip part of town, then the Greenwich Bolthole might be just the place. The bedroom might be on the snug side, but the living room has lovely, roomy proportions and is flooded with natural light. It's a great place to come back to and recharge after a hectic day's sightseeing before heading out again to the the vibrant local restaurant and bar scene.

Nolita is quickly embracing that village vibe, with trendy shops and pedestrian paths popping up everywhere. This family home is a perfect fit in the neighbourhood - it's inviting, airy and bright. With two terraces, prime for watching the passerby below and a versatile layout, families can really spread out across the two floors. Keep in mind, this apartment is home to a cat who will be around during your stay - but we consider this an added bonus to an otherwise lovely duplex.

There's also two home office spaces, ideal for those visiting on business. Plus an impressive double bedroom with views of the Empire State Building, and a swanky freestanding bathtub for when it's time to relax. 

When it's time to head out, you're a block away from Washington Square Park, while the Hudson River is easily accessible on foot, setting you up perfectly for scenic morning walks. If you're looking for a bit of excitement, you're also a short stroll from trendy Tribeca and the heart of the Downtown NY scene.

Experience New York living to the fullest at this mega-loft in the heart of Union Square. This is one of those movie-set worth pads, with 14-foot ceilings, custom interiors, a chef’s kitchen and a private terrace complete with a barbecue, swing and alfresco dining area. It’s hard to believe you’re in New York with all this space, though the city sounds will remind you now and then. Need to catch up on emails? Sitting pretty in the ever-changing neighbourhood of Hudson Square, this recently built apartment has a pretty big trick up its sleeve – head out onto the terrace and guests are treated to a glorious view of the Hudson River, Jersey City to the front and some of Manhattan's landmarks to either side. Better still, with this western orientation, it's a fabulous spot for catching the sunset.

It would seem that the architect was only too aware of how beautiful this panorama is as almost every room in the house is blessed with huge windows that are nothing but generous when it comes to natural light. It might take you a moment to get around to giving the interior design a closer look, but when you do, you'll find sophistication in every corner, from the super-sleek kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms to the flourishing house plants and characterful wildlife motifs to be spotted throughout.

It should be highlighted that the home's location is excellent for those hoping to see as much of Manhattan as possible. Tribeca lies within walking distance to the south, Soho sits to the east and Greenwich Village awaits to the north. As such, you won't have to venture far for galleries, restaurants or live music venues.
