So there's plenty of space to come together and socialise, whether you're stretched out on the sofa or preparing dinner in the handcrafted kitchen. 

Elsewhere, the bedrooms offer a haven of zen-like calm in the middle of Manhattan, with walk-in wardrobes and a Carrara marble en-suite off the main bedroom, adding a touch of luxury. Head upstairs, and you'll uncover a rooftop terrace that offers direct southern vistas over Washington Square Park, MacDougal Alley and the Empire State Building. 

Down at street level, the delights of Greenwich Village await. Undoubtedly Manhattan's most charming neighbourhood, it's attracted the city's quirky and creative types since the sixties. Uproarious comedy clubs and excellent restaurants make it a real nighttime destination, but there's plenty to do during daylight hours. We love this stylish home's location in hip Tribeca, a neighbourhood known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants. Chinatown is a twenty-minute walk or eight-minute ride, while the One World Trade Centre is eight minutes on foot. The iconic Empire State building is a fifteen-minute drive (just over twenty minutes on the bicycles your lovely host Yvonne provides), or if you fancy some green space, Washington Market Park is a mere two-minute stroll.

Back at this apartment, head up to the gorgeous, private roof terrace and take in the views over the Freedom Tower. Inside, textural 3D artworks adorn the walls, and dark oak floors are enlivened with colourful rugs and furnishings. For the kids, there's a fantastic play area with plenty of toys, books and games. There's a home cinema set up too. Our favourite feature, though, has to be the swing in the living area – so random and yet so right. This playful home is perfect for a family.

But we think the views from the rooftop terrace are lovely, and there's seating and a table for enjoying evening drinks or alfresco meals up there. Public transport and hotspots like Central Park and the Empire State Building are within easy reach, so whether you're travelling for work or simply sightseeing, you won't get more central than this.

There's nowhere that says New York living quite like a loft – it's as New York as skyscrapers, Times Square and Central Park, and this stylish place in hip Tribeca is a classic example. All the typical elements are here – we're talking an open, spacious living space with high ceilings, towering columns, huge windows and wooden floors.

What sets this home apart from others, though, is its fabulous art collection and many pieces from luminary designers such as Gerrit Rietveld and Sori Yanagi, as well as light sculptures by Marrow Project. We could certainly tell on viewing that this apartment is owned by a creative director and designer. Select a bottle from the wine cooler, choose one of the books off the well-stocked shelves and relax in style.

You can really live like a local in this home's location as well. This Lower Manhattan neighbourhood is known for its cobblestone streets lined with fashionable boutiques and chic restaurants or soak up the atmosphere in nearby China Town. Oh, yes and if you're a film buff, you can get your fill with the Tribeca Film Festival, held here every June.

Lofts in the Big Apple don’t get more iconic than this. High ceilings, exposed brick and pipes, Corinthian columns and a stainless steel, industrial style kitchen that radiates a forthright New York attitude. The contemporary design hits just the right note of comfort and cool, and its modern bathrooms offer luxurious relaxation—we’d be making a beeline for that Jacuzzi bath. After a hot coffee at the breakfast bar and placing a bottle of wine in the cooler for later, it’s time to get stuck into your NoHo locale. Situated just east of Broadway, connecting you to the heart of the dazzling Theatre District, and adjacent to the bohemian East Village, where you’re in touching distance of endless old-school bars, cool cocktail lounges, vintage shops and hip restaurants. If you want to head outside of Lower Manhattan, Bleecker Street subway station is a two-minute walk away.

This charming duplex lies in Manhattan's West Village. Spread over multiple levels with the kitchen up on the mezzanine, groups will have plenty of space here, though you'll need to climb a lot of stairs. If you're looking for a home base while working remotely, you'll find computer equipment and standing desks to maximise productivity. The private garden is spread over two tiers and is equipped for barbecues, with outdoor seating and sun loungers. While children and little ones aren't permitted, we think friend groups will love it here thanks to its proximity to bars, restaurants and shops.

You’re in the heart of Tribeca here where the movie-set-like cast iron loft buildings are home to endless restaurants, bars and even food markets. Plus, the Lower East Side is right next door. 

The Artist's Loft

Built in 1796, this red-brick townhouse is one of the oldest houses in New York City. While the exterior is a beautiful example of Federal architecture, the interior is all modernity with a sleek gourmet kitchen to please the fussiest of chefs and a huge main bedroom with a free-standing tub in the loft. Those working remotely can make use of the dedicated office room and there are additional workstations in some of the bedrooms. There’s plenty of room to spread out between the main lounge, the movie room downstairs and the private backyard furnished with a dining table.

This chic, light-filled loft boasts an envy-inducing location in the heart of Soho. Try a different one every day between visiting Rockefeller Park, Washington Square Park and China Town.  There's plenty else to see within walking distance, but the public transport links nearby can also get you to The Empire State Building or Manhattan Park in minutes.  That's a thumb's up on location – now throw in light-letting oversized windows, plenty of space and an office, and you're onto something.

From here, you're a short walk from countless eateries, cafes, jazz clubs, and off-broadway theatres, so there's plenty to fill your days right on your doorstep. While we love the stylish interiors, living space is limited, so we suggest packing light and a maximum of five people. It's also worth noting that the kitchenette is only suitable for preparing lighter bites, so you'll generally have to order in or sample the local restaurants when it comes to dinnertime.

Greenwich Oasis

Quirky details, like the exposed brick wall and fashion photography prints, inject character into this otherwise minimal home. The bedrooms are on the small side, but the beds are seriously comfortable, with a TV in both. It feels a bit compact, especially with the narrow shape of the kitchen and the dining table taking up most of the communal space. Nonetheless, the location in Nolita makes up for this – surrounded by little shops and cool restaurants, you won’t be spending much time cooking anyway.

Just a four-minute walk to the Hudson River Park, you can spend relaxing moments watching the waters and the world go by. Go for leisurely stroll alongside The High Line – which is reachable in just twelve minutes on foot from your door. Or, explore the cafes, bars, and galleries of the West Village – which is a short nine-minute walk away.

Located in the gloriously photogenic neighbourhood of Greenwich Village, Frida & Friends is a delight. Brimming with character and natural light, the open-plan living space is a real showstopper. We love the huge sash windows and stylish flourishes throughout. The wood in the kitchen is sourced from an Italian railway station, and this is a typical anecdote: it's a home that's been lovingly crafted by its stylish hosts and everything has a story. It's set across three levels so there's a fair amount of up and down but we won't hold this against an otherwise entirely loveable pad.

It's a small space, but it's got plenty of character, including a decorative marble fireplace, ornate mirror and cushy furniture ideal for snuggling. On relaxed evenings at home, rustle up a delicious meal in the kitchen using your finds from the market before putting on a movie. We think it's perfectly suited for two people, but at a stretch, two more guests can sleep on the futon in the living room.

Keep in mind, this apartment is home to a cat who will be around during your stay - but we consider this an added bonus to an otherwise lovely duplex. 
 

Loki's Den

One of the biggest drawbacks of working from home is how personal living quarters can soon start to look, and feel, like the office. However, it's a fate that this recently renovated townhouse in Greenwich Village manages to avoid. The property is very much geared towards those who can ply their trade without having to do the morning commute, thanks to the Rove workstations in every bedroom and media room, which feature electric standing desks, ergonomic chairs and Logitech hardware. The high ceilings and large windows also make the living area a joy to host meetings or client catch-ups. However, as a result of the lavish amount of internal space, there are plenty of spots where you can escape emails — the private roof deck with a barbecue grill and a view of some of New York's skyscrapers, for instance, or on the saddle of the Peloton bike. What's more, the Lower Manhattan location is perfect for those needing a balance between work and play. The Financial District is a ten-minute cab ride away, while there are jazz clubs and fancy restaurants aplenty in the surrounding neighbourhood for when you want to relax.

This is one of those movie-set worth pads, with 14-foot ceilings, custom interiors, a chef’s kitchen and a private terrace complete with a barbecue, swing and alfresco dining area. It’s hard to believe you’re in New York with all this space, though the city sounds will remind you now and then. Need to catch up on emails? Your host provides a complete work setup with an ergonomic chair, ultra-high-definition monitor, and a wireless keyboard. Though you’d be forgiven for wanting to stay home for a Netflix movie night with a Manhattan in hand, you’re steps away from Flat Iron’s top restaurants.

We love the blend of industrial brickwork and wooden floorboards with homey decorative details – from the teeming bookshelves, thoughtful artwork and interesting decor dotted around. 

Practically, you couldn't ask for much more a beautiful chef's kitchen that will make preparing breakfast and home-cooked meals a breeze. There's also two home office spaces, ideal for those visiting on business. Plus an impressive double bedroom with views of the Empire State Building, and a swanky freestanding bathtub for when it's time to relax. 

When it's time to head out, you're a block away from Washington Square Park, while the Hudson River is easily accessible on foot, setting you up perfectly for scenic morning walks. If you're looking for a bit of excitement, you're also a short stroll from trendy Tribeca and the heart of the Downtown NY scene. 

SoHo Loft

Located in NYC's famous West Village – known for its jazz clubs, restaurants, late-night coffeehouses and trendy boutiques – this practical pad welcomes you to experience the buzz of Manhattan living. While the apartment does have space limitations, both double bedrooms are cosy and comforting, plus you'll find a desk if you need to work from home. It's also worth noting that the kitchenette is only suitable for preparing lighter meals, but that said, you'll find plenty of tempting dining options right on your doorstep. There's also a sofa bed in the living area which we suggest is better used for flexible sleeping arrangements rather than extra guests.
