Strong and Stables
Click to book Strong and Stables now: from £95 per night These converted stables make for a peaceful, rustic escape. Whether you're planning country walks on the South Downs, a trip down to the coast or little more than reading in the cosy living room, everything here should be done at a leisurely pace. The home is set in seven acres of lush green land – yours for the exploring. Inside, it's a lovely mix of country chic and clean modern lines, with a feature reclaimed wood wall, comfy sofa and plenty of homely touches. It's only half an hour from Brighton by car, with some excellent pubs nearby, and if you're into wine, you'll be keen to visit the local vineyards. Sleeps up to 4 | 2 Bedrooms | 1 Bathroom
Bread & Butter
Click to book Bread & Butter now: from £200 per night This former bakery has plenty of character and charm, making it a solid option for an escape to West Sussex. Built in the 1800s, it's been well maintained, renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated throughout. We loved the original features (like the sash windows, fireplaces and bakers’ oven); good-size modern kitchen, with a central island for chatting over a glass of wine; king-size beds with crisp, fresh linens; and the sweet courtyard garden: a real little sun trap. The home's location, right in the heart of the town of Arundel, gives easy access to coffee shops, pubs and independent shops – particularly for those who love browsing for art and antiques – as well as stunning views over the famous castle as well. You’re just a few minutes drive to great spots on the South Coast – less than 20 to Worthing; 40 into Brighton – making this a great spot, whether you're into sightseeing or just atmospheric and cosy places to stay. Sleeps up to 4 | 2 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms
Millstone
Click to book Millstone now: from £399 per night A gorgeous period cottage on the banks of the millstream, Millstone puts you in the heart of a picturesque English coastal village. It’s incredibly quiet, with barely any sound other than the burbling of the stream and the quacking of ducks. And as it’s a smartly converted community hall dating back to the 19th century, it combines the charm of yesterday with the comforts of today. Walk to the end of the lane and you’re at the water’s edge where you’ll find gorgeous views of the estuary and the sunsets over the waterfront quay. For biking, walking and nature enthusiasts, the South Downs National Park is a fifteen-minute drive and the Wittering Beaches aren’t much further. And if you’re looking for a little more action, the market town of Chichester is only 10 minutes by car. Sleeps up to 4 | 2 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms
Linger Awhile
Click to book Linger Awhile now: from £200 per night Located right in the heart of Arundel, this Victorian townhouse has stunning views over the castle and Gothic cathedral. Originally designed and built by Joseph Hansom (architect behind Arundel Cathedral), it’s been renovated to a high standard and tastefully decorated. Modern gadgets like a flatscreen smart TV and slick wine fridge are seamlessly incorporated into the decor alongside original fireplaces, windows and chandelier-hung ceiling roses. We loved the mix of furniture, with individual pieces specially selected to fit each room, as well as the charming courtyard garden. Overall, we felt the home was warm, inviting, comfortable and very clean. Arundel is quaint and traditional with decent shops, art galleries, pubs and coffee shops (we can recommend the brunch at Motte and Bailey). Close to the river Avon and good walks in the nearby South Downs, the town is also just a few minutes’ drive to great spots on the South Coast – less than 20 to Worthing; 40 into Brighton. This is a lovely option for a family looking to linger for a while and enjoy a slower pace of life, within easy driving distance of the seaside. Sleeps up to 8 | 4 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms
Flow Theory
Click to book Flow Theory now: from £489 per night Flow Theory is the kind of place we'd recommend for a longer stay, just because we feel that a one-week booking will barely let you scrape the surface of all it has to offer. The insides are designed for a large family to play, relax, and adventure together, especially since the house is well equipped with cooking supplies, DVDs, and games. But we'd be silly not to mention the mudflats outside, which offer a unique opportunity for wildlife fanatics and birdwatchers to get their wellies on and reconnect with nature. We loved how the whole house is designed with the awareness of the natural beauty just outside, and every room has a stunning view that keeps inviting you to go outdoors. When you're ready to explore the nearby towns, we recommend that you start with Chichester's cathedrals, then take a twenty-minute drive to West Wittering beach for a day trip. If there are Peppa Pig fans in your party, then a visit to Peppa Pig World at Paulton's Park is also a must. Sleeps up to 9 | 5 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms
