Top 20 Trastevere, Rome vacation rentals & luxury serviced apartments
Crossing over the Ponte Sisto at sunrise is one of Rome's greatest pleasures, not least because it takes you into Trastevere, the heart of Medieval Rome. Today the city is home to an eclectic variety of characters, ranging from longstanding Roman families and foreign students to pasta obsessives in search of the perfect cacio e pepe. Head south-east towards Piazza di Santa Cecilia, home to one of Rome's most elegant basilicas. Make sure to find the nun in the bookshop and pay a couple of euros to gain access to the bewitching little crypt downstairs which has Roman ruins, Medieval frescos and a Renaissance chapel. Head back upstairs for sea bass and truffle carpaccio at Le Mani in Pasta, before walking off lunch with a stroll up the Gianicolo Hill.
