Just outside the building, a cross-country ski trail takes you past stunning alpine vistas and in the town of Lenzerheide you’ll find a handful of ski lifts to whisk you up to the slopes – the closest being a ten-minute walk away. It’s on the outskirts of Livigno where gondolas and ski lifts await to whisk you up the mountainside. Bedrooms are tucked beneath wooden ceilings across both floors and the added bonus is the steam room for sore muscles.

The Italian Alps offer charm and excitement throughout both summer and winter. While ski resorts like Livigno have enough excellent terrain to draw the snowsports crowds, a relaxing stay in lush mountain scenery wouldn’t go amiss in warmer months. Just a five-minute walk from the nearest ski lift, this studio apartment is more than handy for skiers and snowboarders. This apartment sits in the heart of Varenna, a short walk from the picturesque Lake Como. Shops, restaurants, and the train station are also nearby, putting you in a prime position to explore both near and far. While the fuss-free interiors aren't the most exciting, we think this is a practical option for families and friends. The balcony is a lovely spot to relax with a glass of wine – even if it's overlooked a bit by neighbours – and the kitchen is a decent size if you want to prepare meals at home. With the double sofa bed in use, space will be tight, so we think it's best suited for four.

Walking into this bright, open home is dreamy. Two large patio doors welcome in the beautiful sunlight, reflecting on the gallery white walls. Step outside the doors to a mesmerising view of Lake Maggiore and the Swiss Alps, a sight that doesn't get old. Enjoy breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and drinks on the large balcony with the best seat in the house. You'll especially love having your morning coffee here, with the morning sunlight dancing on the calm waters. Locarno proudly holds the title for the warmest place in Switzerland, so we imagine you'll be spending time lounging by the shared pool, dipping in for a swim when the afternoon heat blazes on. When it's time to explore, you're under a twenty-minute walk or five-minute drive from the heart of Locarno. Known for its fondue and local wines, food lovers will adore walking its cobbled streets and stopping into small, traditional food and drink spots. The apartment is mere steps from the lakeside squares for people watching and sundowners, and when it's time to head upstream to Menaggio, Bellagio, and beyond, the ferry port is just 200 metres from your door. Back home, the handsome palazzo exteriors make all the right first impressions. It's worth noting that if six of you share, the last two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living area. There's also no outdoor space to speak of here. But the views of Bellano's rooftops and church tower from the bedroom are a lovely touch.

Lake Como Serenity

With panoramic views of the lake and the mountains from the large balcony, this home is the perfect retreat. There’s a small, shared garden here as well with a barbecue for alfresco meals. The vistas are great from the living area – this room also sleeps guests five and six on a sofa bed. When you want to explore, it’s a short drive to the lake, while the town of Domaso, with its shops, cafes and restaurants, is 4 kilometres away.
