There's nothing shy or retiring about this Swiss chalet, where bigger is better. Set against a backdrop of towering peaks and dramatic vistas, this home has taken some of that theatre to heart. The living room is huge, with a gigantic fuchsia sofa that could fit your party – and then some – in front of a feature brick fireplace. The kitchen is well-equipped with traditional goodies, including a fondue set and raclette grill, providing fodder for epic feasts. The slopes are only 100m away – the ski lift is a kilometre away – meaning competent skiers can strap up and just speed off on a day's adventure. Big baths await to soak tired muscles in bedrooms and bathrooms, our favourite being the stretched tub in the master suite – we're pretty sure there's room for two. If you're visiting in summer, a spacious garden and terrace furniture is perfect for catching the sunset, and if you need a break from all that cheese, you can fire up the barbecue.

Surprise Me

Perched on a slope in a tranquil position, you'll find this beautiful apartment with the most incredible views. Ideally located for ski bunnies and hiking enthusiasts, you'll feel like the mountains are hugging you at all times when you stay here. Stepping out onto the terrace, you'll be able to breathe in the fresh mountain air while you admire the scenery – but the views are just as jaw-droppingly good from the comfort of the plush corner sofa. Open plan living, lofty ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows make this place a delight to spend time together in. And when you’re ready to head out on an adventure, the gondola is only 600m away, and the ski bus is pretty much right outside your door. After working up an appetite on the slopes, warm up around the fire and fire up the raclette grill and fondue set for a truly traditional Swiss end to the day.

Peaks and Valleys

Astounding mountain views through the double-height windows? Check. Sloped roofs and wooden walls? Check. Log-burning fires and a deep tub to soak sore muscles? 100%. This beautiful home in the Swiss Alps has everything we need for a skiing or hiking holiday – and then some. Set high in the mountains, the plot has the most magnificent vistas, we recommend pulling up an armchair or – in summer – a lounger to gawp at mother nature's finest. There's more of those stunning panoramas as you wake up, through French doors, and even when firing up the fondue set in the kitchen. The open-plan living space is where we spend most of our time, with quirky cow-hide dining seats, Swiss-themed armchairs, and access to the balcony and barbecue. Thanks to huge leather sofas and traditional games, it's where we like to end the day too – preferably with a cocktail watching the evening rays light up the peaks.

Falcon On The Pine

You might have to pinch yourself when first looking out at the views from this Swiss chalet. Whether it's through the double-height windows or out from the private balcony, the Swiss mountains rise in all their glory. You can look forward to cheese-filled dinners, using the home's raclette grill and fondue set, and curling up by the towering feature fireplace – the vistas of the peaks will backdrop everything you do. Bedrooms are simple and on the bottom floor, ensuring a good night's sleep before taking the ski bus (600m from the home) or setting off on a hike. There's only one deadline to adventures, and that's being back at the balcony for sunset over the snow-capped peaks.

Perfect Peaks

Built in 2020, you’ll find this pristine chalet just a nine-minute walk from the picture-perfect ski village of Nendaz, overlooking the Rhone Valley. Indoors is all about comfort, with soft-as-butter leather sofas, high ceilings and blissful beds with crisp linens. An open-plan living space is complete with modern furnishings in warm neutrals, a perfect match to the exposed wood walls. For snow-sports lovers, Nendaz boasts 412 kilometres of powdery pistes so you’re utterly spoilt for choice. On days when you want to take it easy, there’s a shared heated pool with incredible mountain views, sauna and wellness centre. In the evenings, we can’t think of anything better than gathering on your private balcony for an indulgent feast of cheese and wine – the home comes with its own raclette grill and fondue set. 

Bon Hiver

While this chalet in Rairettes was built in 2013, its wooden walls, arched ceilings and slate roof make it feel quintessentially old-school Swiss. There's a smart twist, however, with floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the home that give unparalleled views over the snow-capped mountains. Whether you're cooking in the pine kitchen, cuddled round the feature fireplace or squashed onto the crushed velvet sofa, eyes will invariably gaze out over the magnificent vistas. In the summer, it's out to the home's balcony and grassy garden for barbecues, alfresco feasts, and even a spot of tanning on the loungers if it's warm enough. Mountain trails – both hiking and skiing – can be found not far from the plot for days exploring ridges and new pastures. When you're done, head back to the plush pad for evening soaks in the deep bathtub or a session in the private sauna.

Clouds Reach

Renovated in 2014, this traditional chalet has been filled with so many rustic but luxury touches, you might be distracted from the business of hitting the slopes of nearby Nendaz. We suggest exploring, however, as on your return a deep standalone bath and the home's private sauna are there to take away any aches and pains. Whether you're visiting in summer or winter, dining tables have been positioned to soak up the Alpine views, through double-height glass windows indoors or on the home's long balcony outdoors. There's room for the whole party to sit and feast on raclette, fondue and barbecued delights. Bedrooms are snug and Swiss, with their sloping beamed ceilings and wooden walls – though the addition of skylights and French doors flood the space with sunshine. For cooler days, there's plenty of room in the living area – light the Scandinavian wood-burner and watch the sun set over the mountains.

Blanc De Blanc

Surrounded by the beauty of the Swiss Alps, this chic chalet is the perfect place to relax with the family. Start your morning with a coffee on the porch to take in the striking views – snow white or lush green as far as the eye can see depending on the season. Later, head indoors where wood panelled walls, faux furs and large glass windows lend a bright and rustic feel. Spend time in the sleek kitchen where a raclette grill and fondue set makes it easy to whip up a traditional meal. And in the evening, sit at the al fresco dining table to sip some wine under the stars, before heading to the in-house sauna for some zen before bed. If you seek adventure, this home is close to hiking trails and well-known ski resorts like Nendaz.

If you're looking for an Alpine escape to the mountains, look no further than this family chalet overlooking spectacular views of the snow-capped Swiss Alps. Located 600 metres from the centre of Veysonnaz, you'll be within easy reach of the village amenities, including bars, shops and restaurants. 

Meanwhile, the resort's ski lifts are conveniently 900 metres from the chalet, and a free ski bus can take you there. So spend fun-filled days amidst nature – whether you're visiting during the winter or warmer months, the surrounding mountains offer a wealth of outdoor activities. And with this snuggly chalet as your base, it feels like a warm hug when retreating here after a day in the great outdoors. For the less outdoorsy type, you'll have the resort town's amenities within the immediate vicinity, this includes an indoor aquatic centre, fitness centre, spa and even a climbing wall. 

With plenty of space for the group to come together, why not host your own dinner parties? After all, it would be rude not to make the most of the raclette grill provided by the host. Positioned on a north-west facing slope, the chalet's windows frame scenic landscape views like a painting on the wall. Meanwhile, the outdoor terrace presents the perfect spot to take in the vistas with a cup of hot cocoa or mulled wine when the air is crisp and the sun shines above.
