One look at that private terrace with sweeping views over Barcelona, and it's easy to see why this home caught our eye. Location-wise, you're right in the heart of vibrant Glòries. Don't miss the nearby mall with its long-standing flea market and upscale shops and eateries. Or hop over into neighbouring L'Eixample to hit the must-see sights. If we were being picky, though the kitchen is well-equipped, it could do with an interior refresh. It's also worth noting the second bedroom is pocket-sized with limited floor space. But we'll let that slide for a home with such impressive outdoor space.

A thoroughly down-to-earth home positioned a fifteen-minute walk from the Nova Icària beach, this apartment is effortlessly cool and utterly relaxing. We couldn’t get enough of the exposed brickwork, original ceiling beams, muted hues and abundant house plants. Furniture has been hand-selected for both style and function – tuck into homemade tapas around the Scandi dining table or get comfy with a measure of local Penedés brandy on the L-shaped couch. Bedrooms are stripped-back yet cosy, so you can guarantee a peaceful sleep night after night. When you’re done sunning yourself on Barcelona’s sandy seashore, take the leisurely thirty-minute stroll into the evocative Gothic Quarter. Although this is a small home, we could tell that a lot of work has gone into making the best out of the square footage. The pinnacle of this effort is a panoramic window in the living room that opens up into the balcony. The furniture here is more of a backdrop than a statement, but that works quite well to maximise the space. Barcelona's most famous sights might not be in the immediate vicinity of Poblenou, but Bogatell beach is within walking distance.

It's right on the Ronda de la Universitat, a major thoroughfare in the city, but this sanctuary is pretty peaceful – thanks to it being on the inner side of the building, you get to enjoy the central location without the noise. We liked the splashes of mauve in the living room, as well as the use of natural materials. The kitchen is kitted out with basic seasonings and cooking ingredients, and there's a juicer and Nespresso machine to make mornings a delight. And the true standout feature of this home is the bedroom, with its impressive modern twist on a classic four-poster bed and painted brick wall. Step outside, and it's just a four-minute walk to the Plaça de Catalunya, and you can arrive at the labyrinthine Gothic Quarter in less than fifteen minutes.

This quirky apartment in the Eixample district of Barcelona scored plenty of ticks from us. The interior design combines classy hotel-standard touches, such as shiny wooden flooring and the gleamingly white kitchen and bathrooms, with some eclectic flourishes that add a whole lot of character — the list of French authors in cursive script on the living room wall and the inset golden display frames holding potted flowers come to mind. The balcony off the living room — as well as the Juliet in one of the bedrooms — adds some outside space to the address, while the location is close to perfect for getting the most out of the city. As well as being part of the same neighbourhood as some of Gaudi's most celebrated projects, Plaça de Catalunya is two minutes' walk around the corner and Platja de la Barceloneta can be reached in twenty minutes on the bus.

Having recently undergone a renovation, this Gràcia apartment is awash with earthy colours, natural materials and leafy houseplants. It could be said that the design isn't so much led by Catalan influences as by North African style – whatever the inspiration, it's undeniably easy on the eye.
