This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located just off the famous Barceloneta beach, Windclass Blue is a solid home for those seeking a relaxing beachside retreat. In the evenings, the Port Vell's nearby promenade is filled with great restaurants and cafes, but if you walk the other way towards Poblenou, you won't be hungry either. This is a simple, luminous home, whose design is focused more on functionality than aesthetics. Still, the beautiful view and comfort make it a good option for a small family or a group of friends.

The architectural details in Cinder Symmetry are the most characterful part of this comfortable, bright home. Even though it's a rental property, the professional touch of an interior designer is evident in the selection of high-quality, minimalist furniture that doesn't clash with the busy walls. El Born is close to the Gothic Quarter, but has a completely different character –  think fewer tourist hotspots, and far more award-winning tapas bars.

El Born is a bustling barrio of cafés, cocktails, and Catalan culture. Seconds from all the action, your home is located in a historical building with buckets of charm. We love the exposed brickwork and wooden beams of this original flat. These rustic structural features contrast beautifully with modern, understated furnishings and decor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows open up on balconies overlooking the street, while cushy sofas and flowing curtains add softness to your surroundings. Up on the communal roof terrace, we recommend getting a cold drink and lying back in the sun loungers. This sunny spot is perfect for an iced coffee in the morning, or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. With the Barceloneta metro stop five minutes from home, the entire city is yours to explore. But if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by all the incredible options, your friendly host is here to help. Floating Cinder is only available for longer stays, and as such we think it has to be judged slightly differently to places that are destined for short trips. For example, we wouldn’t recommend using the sofa bed (though of course, it’s your choice), but equally, the extra space and the decent kitchen weigh heavier in our verdict. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

Drawing inspiration from, the breezy beaches of Southeast Asia, it's easy to forget that you're actually in the heart of Barcelona from this serene spot. That is of course until you step out onto one of the home's three different balconies. Instead of palm trees and sandy shores, however, you'll get to take in views of the equally charming cobbled square and beautiful Spanish architecture that looks over the street below. The apartment's open-plan layout invites guests to relax in style while catching respite from the buzz of the city. Try your hand at preparing some local tapas or even a homemade paella to serve up at the dining area, or better still – head out to try out the local cuisine at the bars and restaurants within walking distance. Positioned just a fifteen-minute leisurely stroll away from Barceloneta beach, you'll be within easy reach of the ocean breeze after all. Come sunset, there's nothing better than drifting away to the soothing sound of the waves lapping into the shore over a glass of Sangria at one of the beach bars. You're welcome.

Located in the heart of El Born — Barcelona's epicentre of cool — this apartment is surrounded by exclusive boutiques, hip bars open late into the night and the Picasso Museum, which is only four minutes' walk away. Inside the home, we admired the rustic touches left in after a recent renovation, particularly the exposed brickwork and wooden beams. You can instantly tell it will be a lovely place to escape the midday sun, with the delicate curtains on either side of the French doors fluttering about in the breeze and the parquet floor running throughout feeling cool to the touch on bare feet. When you fancy soaking up some rays, however, the building has a communal roof terrace complete with seats, a dining table and a charming view over the city's rooftops.

Wake up and watch the sunrise over the Mediterranean Sea from this home across the road from Barceloneta Beach. Then enjoy a tortilla de patatas for breakfast on the balcony (one of three) with its neighbourhood and sea views. Inside this home, housed in one of the city's listed buildings, pebble and blue hues evoke the beachscape beyond. Take a seat on the comfy sofa and plan your day. This place is perfect for a family or group of friends.

When you're ready to explore, we'd suggest heading to Barceloneta Beach, just 50 metres away. Top up your tan on its glorious golden sands, go for a swim or take some paddleboarding classes. Then enjoy some tapas at one of its many bars and restaurants. Later, pick up some fresh produce at Barceloneta Market, a five-minute stroll away.

The streets of Barcelona’s atmospheric Gothic Quarter are on your doorstep at this stylish city bolthole. Once you’ve had your fill of ancient cathedrals, secret squares and late-night tapas joints, perhaps hit the beach at Barceloneta, a leisurely walk away. It’s a studio-style apartment, but a room divider provides a little privacy between the bedroom area and dine-in living room. Plus, sliding doors can shut off the compact kitchen so fridge noise won’t keep you up at night. The bonus is the balcony which is petit but furnished with a bistro set.

Even if we didn't know this home's location, we'd be inclined to say that 'it's so El Born'. Unique art and furniture capture the neighbourhood's character, so you won't notice much difference between the chic interior and the many trendy tapas bars dotted around the nearby streets. La Baule Gallery has some lovely design assets, such as the exposed brick walls, stone columns enhanced with iron beams, and other industrial details that highlight the high-quality furnishings. There aren't many entertainment options – but in this neighbourhood, you won't be bored.

Barceloneta is home to the city's most famous beach on one side and the postcard-worthy port promenade on the other. And although it's further out of the city than you may have been thinking of, it's still an easy walk from the Gothic Quarter. The reasons to choose this cool, contemporary home are obvious the moment you step out of your private lift and straight into your living area. The views take in the best of the coastal resort and the sea, and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy them thanks to the four small balconies (yes, really). And we haven't even mentioned the roof terrace yet.

It's a well laid-out apartment, with separate seating, eating and sleeping areas – there's even a workstation if you'll need to use during your stay. The sleek interior makes it look like a luxurious yacht (but without the seasickness) and the designer furniture maximises the modest square footage. 

Upstairs is this home's secret weapon. All yours and the envy of the entire building, the roof terrace looks out across the glittering sea, providing you with a very special place for sunset drinks. And why not end the day with a long soak in the Jacuzzi bath?

Fifteen minutes north of Barceloneta beach, shake off the sand and make yourself at home in the El Born district. This vibrant region of the city has enough winding streets of cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutiques to keep you busy for days. But in such a bustling area, you’ll need a flat to relax in. The design of this home combines old-world Catalan architecture with modern furniture. We love the exposed brick and rock walls, plus vaulted ceilings showing original wooden beams. The modernity comes with understated decor such as large, grey linen sofas paired with gold and marble-topped tables. Your bedroom is innovatively situated on a corner, meaning you’ve got light coming in from various angles through those huge windows. With its own little balcony to perch on, this is the perfect place to wake up in and enjoy your espresso. Another option is heading up to the communal roof terrace (but get up early for the sun loungers). Before tourists start streaming down into the Gothic Quarter, take a morning walk through its quaint, cobbled streets and you’ll end up at the Mercat de la Boqueria in just over fifteen minutes. For the afternoon, wander the vast green spaces of the Parc de la Ciutadella just over five minutes away. And the cocktail bars of El Born will be waiting for you in the evening.

If you’re staying in El Born, one of Barcelona’s trendiest neighbourhoods, then you need an apartment to match – fortunately, this beachy boho abode is just the ticket. We loved how finca-style ceilings juxtapose the modern, sleek black accents and plaster-effect walls. Straw hanging lamps and an abundance of woven textures add a sense of grounding that encourages you to slow down and switch off. And where better to put your feet up than the covered terrace. Spend unhurried mornings sipping milky coffees in the hanging chair before setting the table ready for a breakfast of local produce. 

Afternoons are to be spent sunning yourself on Barceloneta Beach, just a fifteen-minute mosey from your doorstep. Enjoy picnics in the glorious Ciutadella Park, five minutes away, and gentle strolls through the medieval streets that surround your building. At the end of the day, head into the Gothic Quarter for glasses of sangria in old-world tapas bars.

As simple as the decorations in Symmetry might be, the architectural structure ensures it has plenty of character. There’s been a concerted effort to conserve the traditional style of Barcelona, which contributes to a real sense of place. You also have access, along with everyone else in the building, to the roof terrace, which is a perfectly pleasant spot, with sun-loungers, chairs and tables.

Ideally located in central Barcelona, this apartment offers great proximity to some of the city’s greatest sights, and attractions. Admire the home’s unique brickwork art as it greets you and welcomes you to Barcelona. Perfect mornings here begin with a breakfast tortilla eaten at the kitchen island with the soft breeze from the Juliet balcony floating in. Then, head out onto the balcony with your coffee to enjoy the views and the sun on your skin. 

Catch up on any important work at the desk space before heading out for a day of exploring. Take a leisurely stroll around the beautiful Ciutadella Park – a seven-minute walk away, or visit the Gothic Quarter and Cathedral – reachable in nine minutes on foot. You can even hop on and off a bus tour of the city to take in as many sights as possible. 

In the evening, dine in one of the many restaurants in the neighbourhood which are reachable in as little as a one-minute walk, or try cooking your own Catalan dishes. We would then love to end the day with a glass of sangria on the balcony, to enjoy the last of the views as night-time descends.

Brick walls give Cinder Heights a bit of an industrial feel, and while there is a slight mishmash of different styles (the exposed brick and wooden beams against the more modern kitchen) it feels eclectic, rather than like it’s clashing. It’s really important to be aware that this listing represents several flats. They are all identical, and all in the same building, but we can’t say specifically which one you’ll get.

This rustic and cosy Spanish apartment, within walking distance of the stretching sands of Barceloneta Beach, is a sun lover's dream. The drop-your-bags-and-go coastal location is the main draw here, but we also love the suntrap rooftop terrace, where alfresco meals and sunset drinks will go down a treat. A laptop-friendly desk is a plus for anyone needing to jump on the occasional Zoom call, and though none of the rooms are overly large, everything is spacious enough and comfortable for four. Besides, surrounded by cafes, museums and landmarks, you probably won't be spending much time inside anyway.

In the heart of Barcelona's oldest neighbourhood, this cosy apartment enjoys views of Ciutadella park from its private balcony. The high ceilings and glass doors let sunlight in and really open up the space. While it's not one of our most exciting homes, the bunk beds are great for kids and the central location makes it easy to explore the el Born area. Although parking isn't free, you won't need a car to make the most of your stay. Barceloneta beach, museums and restaurants are all within walking distance.

This elegant apartment is in the centre of Barcelona, 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. Bars, restaurants and shops are all on your doorstep. Apart from a full kitchen and delightful dining room inside, there’s a private terrace for evening cocktails outside. In the living room, you’ve got a dedicated laptop desk for those that need to work remotely. Despite the central location, it’s pretty quiet as the rooms look out over the terrace rather than the busy street. 

When the City Sleeps

Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. One of Barcelona's longest boulevards crossing right through the city, it's an impressive sight to behold. And thanks to its elevated position on the fifth floor, the spacious bedrooms feel surprisingly quiet at night with the windows closed and the black-out blinds drawn.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Two balconies – one at the front and one at the back of this apartment – provide beautiful views of the neighbourhood and you can even see a little bit of the sea on sunny days. Up on the top floor, natural light floods the rooms. The open living space in soft grey and teal velvet is particularly sunny. Glass doors lead out to the front terrace where waxy green banana leaves sprout from planters and dining is set for four. There’s a lazy hammock in the corner too, so you can take in that rooftop view all the way to the Sagrada Familia. You'll be able to plan your holiday from the comfort of the terrace as Barcelona spreads like a map before you. Located only minutes away from Plaça Catalunya, you'll have easy access to all parts of the city.

Housed in a historic building dating back to 1921, this beautifully curated apartment next to Passeig de Sant Joan offers a scenic, comfortable base from which to explore Barcelona’s most famous sights. 

Decked out in beautiful vintage pieces the host has collected on her world travels and throughout Barcelona, this bright apartment blends Old-World charm with striking modern features to create an instantly stylish impression. This wonderful home is located between the districts of the Gothic Quarter and Raval. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets.
