We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. Angela, the host, actually used to live in this apartment when she was a kid. She later inherited it from her father. It was empty for a while, but then she decided to refurbish it with the aid of her husband and daughter (who are both architects), the result being a rustic-meets-Scandinavian-style home of our dreams. Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas. 

Madrid Serenade

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid. 

Sunflower's Embrace

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.


Espinas

Relax in El Retiro Park with its pretty boating lake and fountains (two to three minutes on foot) when you stay at this modern apartment in one of the most exclusive areas of Madrid. Prado Museum is the same walking distance if you fancy a spot of culture, while Paseo de Recoletos, with its impressive trees and sculptures, as well as historic cafes, is fifteen minutes on foot.

After all that exploring, whip up a fresh glass of orange juice with the juicer in the kitchen and have a rest on your private balcony. We love this space with its verdant topiaries and views over the district – it's perfect for an alfresco lunch or dinner. Inside, large windows allow light to flood in. This place has plenty of mod cons, such as electric closing windows and chromotherapy showers. We’d say this home is ideal for business professionals, a family or a group of friends.
