We love this space with its verdant topiaries and views over the district – it's perfect for an alfresco lunch or dinner. Inside, large windows allow light to flood in. This place has plenty of mod cons, such as electric closing windows and chromotherapy showers. We’d say this home is ideal for business professionals, a family or a group of friends.

In the heart of Madrid, just a few metres away from Plaza Mayor and within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, this city apartment couldn't be better located. Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas.

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

With an understated, soothing colour palette highlighted by the natural light flooding through the windows, you'll feel at home the moment you step through the front door. Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

Situated in Puerta del Sol, this central apartment invites you to experience the joys of Madrid with ease. From here, you'll be within walking distance of Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace of Madrid and Museo Nacional del Prado. You’re also just a few steps from Sol metro station, so the whole city is at your fingertips. Inside, you’ll find a modern open-plan space with a balcony and a dining area to share leisurely meals. Keep in mind that two guests will be sleeping on the living room sofa bed here, so it does lack some privacy. And if you’re visiting with little ones, your host can provide a cot upon request.

Sol Retreat

What a great location this apartment has in Madrid. The Royal Palace is just seven minutes on foot, while the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor are within walking distance, too. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Modern, bright and centrally located close to Madrid’s top sights, this home right by Puerta del Sol is a sunny delight. 

With its blue and white colour scheme, exposed brick details and open-plan layout, it embodies city living in chic, cool style. Open up the bedroom’s French doors to look out over the city from the Juliet balcony first thing in the morning before ambling into the living room where another pair of Juliet balconies await. Kick back on the sofa with your coffee, letting the breeze sweep in through the open doors, then set out for a day of sightseeing – Plaza Mayor is just a seven-minute walk away, Gran Vía is a ten-minute stroll, while both the Royal Palace of Madrid and the world-famous Museo Nacional del Prado are fifteen minutes away on foot. 

After a day of exploring, come back home for a celebratory meal around the glass dining table or head out to discover the neighbourhood’s best tapas bars and restaurants. When it’s time to turn in, your comfortable bed is ready to send you into a peaceful night’s sleep, leaving you rested and ready for another day of Madrid adventure.

Recently renovated, the home has been transformed into a designer space with stylish décor, light tones, splashes of colour and modern art on the walls. But there’s nothing pretentious about it all. The space is just wonderfully inviting and comfortable. Over a coffee and pastry in the kitchen, plan your day’s agenda or spend a lazy morning relaxing on the huge, living room sofa instead. Come afternoon, art-lovers can meander through the nearby galleries, while foodies will want to spoil themselves in the local bars and restaurants. Afterwards, the pretty El Retiro Park is the perfect spot for catching your breath before heading back home. There’s a well-designed kitchen at your disposal so you can whip up a tasty meal before sinking into your effortlessly neat bed. But if you’re in the mood for further entertainment, you’re well-placed to enjoy Madrid’s famously noisy nightlife.

Blending rustic charm with stylish modern accents, this home feels wonderfully Spanish. We love the exposed beamed ceilings and the wood floors, as well as the houseplants and colourful rug in the living area that add additional characterful flair. 
 
The bedroom is elegantly pared back, offering a comfortable night’s sleep, while the dining area invites celebratory homemade tapas feasts when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene. 
 
Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its wide-sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here while catching some morning rays or watch the sunset from your privileged position over an evening glass of Spanish wine. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for some sightseeing, you’ll find Plaza Mayor less than a minute’s walk away, while bustling Puerta del Sol is a four-minute stroll from your door. Elsewhere, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a ten-minute walk, the famous Museo Nacional del Prado is an eighteen-minute stroll, while leafy El Retiro Park is just over twenty minutes away on foot.

We love the funky art prints decking the walls and the large windows giving way to leafy views. The dining table is perfectly set up here to catch the rays pouring through the glass, over a hearty breakfast before a day of sightseeing, or over a bottle of Spanish red for a celebratory evening meal.
 
The pared-back bedroom is a comfortable space you’ll have no trouble falling asleep in, and in the morning, the bathroom’s rainfall shower is sure to get your day off on the right. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for a day of fun, you’ll find plenty to see and do within easy walking distance. Make your way to nearby Puerta del Sol, or head to Plaza Mayor – one of the city’s most famous squares lined with restaurants. You’re also a nine-minute walk from bustling Gran Vía, a fifteen-minute stroll from the Royal Palace of Madrid, while pretty El Retiro Park is twenty minutes away on foot.

Twenty minutes on foot from Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol, and El Retiro Park, this apartment is well-placed to explore. Many shops, restaurants, and metro stations are nearby, as well as some of Madrid's most famous markets. When you're not sightseeing, this central home is practical and comfortable. We love the exposed brick and stone walls, though it does mean it's a little dark. The kitchen is the ideal size to rustle up lighter fare, but we suspect you'd prefer dining out.

Charming and bright, this studio apartment sits just steps away from Sol Metro station, with easy access to the city's biggest and best attractions. On a higher floor of a traditional period building, it comes with character features, modern comforts and bags of natural light from its three Juliet balconies. White walls and wood floors make for a timeless canvas while smart furnishings keep everything very much in the 21st Century.

It's not a huge space but it's neatly laid out with zones for cooking, eating, lounging and sleeping, and there's an immaculate shower room off the sleeping area, making this perfect for a couple, a solo traveller or even a small family. Step outside and this lively area is packed with buzzing tapas bars and some of the city's best shopping. An ideal base for dabbling in these delights, this convenient home is an easy choice.

You’re a five-minute walk from the Museo Nacional del Prado, less than fifteen from the sprawling Retiro Park and twenty from the Royal Palace. When all of that exploring works up a hunger, check out your neighbourhood’s impressive culinary scene. Find a tapas bar for a tipple and a bite to eat or try out international cuisine in sleek dining rooms.

With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.


Espinas

Malasaña is famous for being slightly outrageous, which is probably why Queen of the Castle is in it. A tour of this home reveals a glamorous hybrid design theme that balances modern baroque-inspired pieces with jungle and safari themes – dear lovers of minimalism, you might want to stay elsewhere. But if gold-coated flora and fauna with an occasional crown-cum-skull ensemble sound like heaven to you, then you'll find Queen of the Castle an absolute delight. Not to mention that you'll be within walking distance to Puerta del Sol and the vibrant neighbourhood of Chueca.

What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.  

Take some goodies back to this elegant apartment and whip up a bocadillo de calamares (calamari sandwich) in the sleek, white kitchen and enjoy it at the dining table with its plush green velvet chairs. We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. Plants give this place a homely feel, while modern prints enliven the white walls – this home is ideal for two couples or a family wanting plenty of attractions within easy walking distance.

Inside, tall beamed ceilings, wood floors and exposed brick walls nod to the home’s history with antique-inspired furnishings creating an almost villa-type atmosphere that’s as dreamy as it is bohemian. We love the French doors that open out onto romantic Juliet balconies with views of Plaza de Jacinto Benavente below. With the bed facing the picture windows, you can wake up and enjoy your morning coffee first thing while people-watching from your fourth-floor vantage point.
