From here, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, bars and iconic sights, including the Royal Palace of Madrid, Plaza Mayor and the San Fernando Fine Art Royal Academy. The apartment is modern and practical, though it does lack natural light. A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed, and the two en-suite bathrooms will help speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that Madrid has to offer.

This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.

You'll find this apartment in Argüelles, home to low-key tapas bars, art-house cinemas, and traditional eateries popular with students. Exploring is a breeze here. Ventura Rodriguez metro station is a short walk away, though you can also stroll to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace in about twenty minutes. Back home, there's a practical yet cosy living space. The kitchen is well-appointed for rustling up light bites, while three bedrooms offer respite after a long day on your feet. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, this pad is a great choice.

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

If you want to stay in a prestigious neighbourhood, how about this home in Salamanca? There are plenty of designer boutiques, art galleries and fine-dining restaurants to explore in the area. Naturally, you will hear some city noise here. This south-facing apartment is light and bright, and we love the Juliet balcony off the open-plan living room with its leafy Ayala Street views. There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

As you enter the apartment, there’s an instant sense of calm and tranquillity – making it the perfect setting to relax during your city stay. Outside, wander through the neighbourhood towards Plaza del Dos de Mayo – only a five–minute walk away.  This historic square is a great spot to soak in the lively city atmosphere from a bar or restaurant – it also has a wonderful weekend market. From here you can spend your day visiting galleries, shopping, dining and admiring Madrid’s iconic sights.

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Situated in Madrazo, just a five-minute stroll from the bustling shop-lined avenue of Gran Vía and its majestic Metropolis Building, this home's location alone is enough reason for us to praise it to the skies. It's right at the heart of the action, though, tucked away on a side street and perched on the third floor, feels delightfully peaceful. Here, you're within walking distance of all the main sights, including El Retiro Park and the Plaza Mayor, both twelve minutes from your doorstep on foot.

From the outset, this home exudes grandeur with its pastel-hued facade and marble tiled entryway. The interior is just as elegant, boasting a calming canvas of high ceilings, wooden floors and stylish decor. Large windows usher in floods of sunlight, and we love the open-plan living space, where floor-to-ceiling French doors open up to not one but four balconies. After a restful slumber, spend mornings roosted here, sipping your coffee in the sunshine with picturesque street-facing views. 

Spend your days strolling through Madrid's palm-lined streets, passing neoclassical architecture, emblematic museums and bustling plazas bearing ample cafes and tapas bars. When you need a breather from the city heat, return to this sanctuary of serenity. We love the exposed brick and stone walls, though it does mean it's a little dark. The kitchen is the ideal size to rustle up lighter fare, but we suspect you'd prefer dining out.

It’s in a vibrant part of the city, close to restaurants and shops, and within walking distance of many of the key attractions – Plaza Mayor and the Prado Museum are less than twenty minutes away on foot. If you don’t feel like walking, hop on the metro at nearby Embajadores. The apartment is modern and attractive, equipped with everything needed for a city break.

If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above. 

There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, serving everything from traditional tapas to ramen and tacos. Madrid's historic square, Plaza Mayor, is just a two-minute walk away from your front door, as is the famous Puerta del Sol. You'll also find several museums and theatres in the surrounding area, and if you fancy exploring another part of the city then simply hop on the metro at Sol station – it's just a couple of minutes away.

With an understated, soothing colour palette highlighted by the natural light flooding through the windows, you'll feel at home the moment you step through the front door. Its central location means you're surrounded by tempting tapas bars, charming neighbourhood cafes, and plenty of beautiful streets to wander down with no particular goal. So after a long day of adventuring, snuggle up on the cosy sofa and stream a classic Pedro Almodóvar movie before retreating to the serene bedrooms for a restful night's sleep. In the morning, sip on a cup of coffee as the colourful streets come to life below. Then, for blissful days out, take a stroll through the lush gardens of Jardines de Sabatini and Plaza de Oriente, mere minutes away from your home.

This is a calm, dreamy home with lots of nooks to hide away and relax. Think gentle, coherent style and wonderful details, such as the rock wall in the living room or the breakfast bar in the open kitchen. The huge door-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring in the daylight without the noise, making you almost forget that you're located in the heart of Malasaña. We recommend the nearby Toma Cafe for a taste of the local atmosphere.

While not overly flashy, Molten Bronze's simplicity is refreshing. The interior is clean, with a few things that really standout, like the kitchen splashback, which is not something we get to highlight very often. For the most part, the furniture and decorations come from Maison du Monde, so it’s solid and stylish, if not unique. The location won’t be for everyone – it’s on a busy street in Malasaña, so it isn’t very peaceful, but there’s loads to do and you won’t get bored.

Boasting a privileged position in Madrid’s culture-rich Las Letras neighbourhood, this top-floor apartment offers comfort and style in equal measure. 
 
Its slanted ceilings and contemporary decor make an immediately striking welcome in the open-plan living area, bathed in light thanks to the scenic skylights that give way to rooftop views. Make yourself comfortable in the seating nook with a glass of wine after a day of exploring the city, or gather together at the dining table for a meal when you’re not out sampling the lively local tapas scene. The beamed bedroom is a serene space you’ll love retreating to at the end of the night, as you fall asleep to the glow of the moon through the skylight. 
 
What’s more, you’ve got access to the building’s shared rooftop terrace – a beautiful sun trap that beckons alfresco breakfasts and celebratory sundowners as you watch the light fade over the city. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, you’re in an ideal spot to make the most out of Madrid’s most celebrated museums with the famous Museo Nacional del Prado a five-minute walk and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía a seven-minute stroll. You’re also a thirteen-minute walk from leafy El Retiro Park, a fifteen-minute stroll from Plaza Mayor, while bustling Gran Vía is ten minutes away on foot.

This apartment is within walking distance of an array of attractions, such as Parque Madrid Rio, Casa de Campo, the Royal Palace and La Almudena Cathedral. Of course, there are plenty of dining options to discover in the area, too. The apartment has a desk if you need to catch up on emails and a well-equipped kitchen for making some tapas. We have to say, we love the main bedroom with its dressing room and en-suite. This home is a great choice whether you’re here for leisure or work.

Metropolitan Magic

Situated in the central neighbourhood of Malasaña and just a fifteen-minute walk to most attractions, this apartment is a great base from which to explore Madrid. A light and beautiful home, the space combines cosy comfort with a youthful vibe. The living areas have wooden beams and whitewashed walls, but added to the style are pop-art paintings and Coca-Cola memorabilia. Homely touches include vases filled with flowers and the whitest of linen in the bedrooms. In the morning, throw open the tall windows and shutters and let the sounds of the city waft through the rooms. Rustle up breakfast in the kitted-out kitchen, then move into the lounge and sip coffee while looking down on the activity below. There are so many things to do here but there’s no need to rush. Shops, restaurants, bars and attractions are all within walking distance and if you need public transport the metro station is a mere five-minute stroll away. Phew!

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.

This stylish apartment is blessed with gorgeous views of Chueca Square, one of the most vibrant areas of Madrid. It's a collection of cool bars, top-rate restaurants and boutique stores selling chic clothing. It's a trendy suburb that showcases the allure of Madrid.

Despite the busy location, the apartment exudes a peaceful energy at all times. Whether you're chilling on the sofa, sharing tapas on the table or relaxing in bed, you'll feel content in your tranquil surroundings. 

Once you're fully rested, get out and explore the rest of Madrid. The metro stop is just minutes away by foot, giving you complete freedom to discover the charm of the city. Find on-trend galleries, fascinating museums and a plethora of parks for a wholesome day of culture.

We challenge you to find a prettier apartment overlooking the Royal Palace of Madrid. This place is a real showstopper, with twin Juliet balconies opening over Plaza de Oriente Gardens. Bold, bright and just downright beautiful, it's dripping in character thanks to ornate cornice, traditional shuttered windows and classical furnishing. A riot of elegant colours and patterns, it couldn't be further from modern minimalism if it tried.

Once you've arrived and stared out of the window for long enough to take it all in, choose between the two pretty bedrooms – one decorated in calming greens, the other in vibrant terracotta. There's a grand, open-plan living space to keep everything sociable, and a kitchen with everything you'll need for cooking at home. But we suspect you'll be eating out much of the time – it would be rude not to when surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the city. And with most of the major attractions on your doorstep too, you'll have plenty to see and do.

Situated in the heart of L'Esquerra de l’Eixample, this neighbourhood is a hit for cafe culture and art lovers. The apartment may be a better base for travellers seeking a lively stay in Barcelona, as you'll find gay bars and a student atmosphere within strolling distance. As for your time indoors, imagine coming together in the modern living area, which opens out to a Juliet balcony. And if there's work to do while you're here, we love that there's a home office to help you focus.

The Painted Image

The elegant combination of Nordic interior design styles with fashionable industrial fittings make this newly renovated apartment a great choice. It's genuinely cosy and comfortable and the original artwork on the walls gives it a distinctly homey vibe. Two sweet balconies look out onto the typically graffitied streets of trendy Malasaña neighbourhood, and a tonne of quirky cafes, bakeries, restaurants and vintage shops are all close by. Ideal for a younger crowd, it's a ten-minute walk to central Gran Via, and fifteen to the busy Puerta del Sol.

Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city. From shopping on Gran Vía to dining in nearby restaurants, there is plenty to see and do here. Neither the kitchen nor some of the bedrooms are the biggest, but it has all the essentials for a hassle-free stay. Just note that though there's space for five, we think it's a better fit for four.

Chamberí Ochre

Malasaña is a frequent traveller's favourite. An ever-changing landscape of artisan cafes and local galleries, it's a perfect start to an off-the-beaten-path holiday. In the Flow is a typical Malasaña resident – relaxed and bohemian, with a mixture of high-quality furnishings and flea-market knick-knacks that add to its charm. It might not be a great home if you're particularly tall (due to the slanting ceilings), but it's big, bright, and comfortable.

Located in one of Madrid's most charming neighbourhoods, the Barrio de las Letras –  step outside and you'll discover terrific restaurants, trendy bars, and little boutiques. It is noisy, but you're in the heart of the action here. Wander over to El Retiro Park, perfect for getting away from the city with a picnic in the park, and a stroll around the art in the 19th Century Crystal Palace. Chueca, famous for its active nightlife and wonderful vintage tapas bars, is a great place to experience Spanish nightlife. Most importantly, before hitting the bars, seek out a quaint restaurant for delightful tapas. This is all achievable due to the transport links that you can easily tour the entire city with.

From the open-plan living area to the breakfast bar, ideal for cooking up some morning delights. Light colours prevail with a splash of colour, adding elegance to the design and unique furnishings. The bedrooms are spacious and cheerful, thanks to large windows that let in plenty of natural light. Its high-quality finishes complement the rest of the floor's decorative style, creating a sense of absolute harmony and beauty.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

Cosy and charming, this apartment nestled in the heart of the vibrant centre of Madrid is the perfect spot for a romantic city break for two. While outside you’ll find yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of the capital, here you’ll be able to relax and enjoy total peace and tranquillity. 

The place might be small in scale but it never feels cramped – you’ll have plenty of room to relax in the comfy living area, under the watchful eye of Audrey Hepburn gazing down from the wall. Enjoy snuggly evenings of Spanish wine and conversation here – you can also rustle up quick and delicious meals in the bright and modern kitchen. Savour them at the elegant dining table, ideal for candlelit suppers – in case you have some laptop work to catch up on this is also the place to get that out of the way.
 
Meanwhile, the plush bed in the bedroom promises a good night’s rest – awake restored and ready for another day of city adventures.
