Naturally, you will hear some city noise here. This south-facing apartment is light and bright, and we love the Juliet balcony off the open-plan living room with its leafy Ayala Street views. There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

There's a reason Salamanca is one of Madrid's most sought-after neighbourhoods. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Blue Torito is a chilled-out home located in one of the liveliest parts of Madrid. Even though it sports a gentle colour palette, it uses patterns and textures to give it a bit more spunk. From woven carpets to the textured headboards, it's apparent that the hosts like playing with details. But for a group of friends or a family, it's a great, comfortable stay.

Inside, the overarching impression is one of stylish simplicity. Muted grey walls and wooden floorings are a classy combination and work particularly well with the vintage framed artwork and modern furnishings. We're also impressed by the sleek finishes and generous amount of surface space in the minimalist kitchen — here, you can quite easily take a break from the city's restaurants for a night.

Take a glance out of the large windows in the living room and bedroom, and you're greeted with beautiful views across the city, which should inspire you to head and explore. El Retiro Park is only a fifteen-minute walk away, while there are also seven museums that can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot.
