Residential Chamberí might not be smack in the middle of Madrid's theatre scene, but if you're in town to relax and see it on your own terms, then you'll appreciate the quieter neighbourhood. Paquelin is a comfortable home in the heart of it, immaculate and simple. With only a few art prints on the walls (which we thoroughly enjoyed) and generally inobtrusive furniture, it's the kind of home that will best suit an adventurous family who will make it their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's still well equipped and bright.

This home puts Chamberí's diverse bars and shops on your doorstep. Moments from the Paseo de la Castellana, you'll have excellent public transport links too. While we love the bright interior, it may be a better pick for light packers, as there isn't a lot of space in the bedrooms for storage. It's a shame the dining area doesn't seat six, though the kitchen offers another table for two. How about sunset-watching on the balcony after a day spent exploring Madrid?

A Saharan-inspired oasis in charming Madrid, this stylish apartment is an excellent place to rest your head. There's an instant feeling of comfort from the moment you walk through the door, thanks to the earth tones, natural accents and decorative elements like the rattan headboards. When you crave a bit more pace, jump on the metro at Ríos Rosas (just a two-minute stroll) away – you'll be basking in the buzz of Puerta del Sol in ten minutes, flat.

The highlight for us here is the communal pool – after a day of gallery hopping where better to enjoy a spot of sun? Gregorio Marañón metro station is right around the corner, although you can easily explore the boutiques, bars and hidden backstreets on foot.

With an address in the Nuevos Ministerios-Ríos Rosas neighbourhood of Madrid, this area is well-served by public transport, so exploring the rest of the city is easy.  You’ll also be within walking distance of the scenic Parque de Santander and the Azca business district. In fact, if you are here on business or you’re a digital nomad, then this apartment has a handy desk in the living room. There’s also a separate, modern kitchen when you want to cook some Spanish cuisine. This place is a comfy city bolthole.

It’s bright and welcoming, flooded with light, and has been beautifully decorated in muted tones. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.
