When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.

The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

Inside, wood floors, contemporary decor and a collection of eye-catching pieces of art create a calm and welcoming impression in the open-plan living area. The sectional sofa beckons chilled-out evenings over a good book and a glass of Spanish red, while the desk space here comes in handy for those needing to catch up on work. The dining table invites sociable breakfasts over invigorating coffees and celebratory dinners when you’re not out sampling the local tapas scene, and the three comfortable bedrooms are ready to ease you into a restful night’s sleep at the end of a long day of sightseeing.

Chamberí has a more local feel than other neighbourhoods, so you'll experience authentic Madrid. Plus, you're only a short metro ride from landmarks like Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor.

This charmingly bright apartment is the perfect resting point during your adventures in Madrid. The living space gets a beautiful amount of natural daylight through the windows, the perfect accompaniment for an afternoon spent on the sofa reading a brand new book. The nearby hammock is a wonderful spot for a snooze after a deliciously filling meal.

There are two elegant workspaces primed for productivity so you can catch up on projects eagerly before stepping outside for a well-earned vermouth on the rocks at one of the neighbourhood’s charming tapas bars and order some croquetas de jamón Serrano – you’ll be living like a true Madrileño.

Marble floors and columns add a refined elegance and the result is a warm home with a touch of glamour. Enjoy your morning coffee on the patio and dinner with friends at the lovely dining table, then head back outside for a drink as the sun goes down. As far as exploring Madrid, you’ll be staying in a locals’ neighbourhood full of bars and restaurants and green spaces. Walk five minutes to the Parque Conde Del Valle De Suchill, or eight minutes to Plaza del Dos de Mayo. If you’d like to explore other corners of the city, a handful of metro stations are within a five-minute walk.

Tucked away in a typical Madrid townhouse in Chamberí, Grottino is a great base to explore the city. The streets surrounding this home are part of a neighbourhood that's just as opulent as Salamanca, yet closer to the old centre – which is great for a first-time visitor. Grottino might not be the brightest home in our collection, but a lot of care has been invested in designing the lighting in this small home, so that it resembles an urban chalet. We particularly liked the brick wall in the bathroom and the chic kitchenette.

When it came to designing this home, the owners were inspired by the spirit of the mountains. The result is a fresh and calm apartment that brings ease to city living. From here, you can relax, cook, listen to your favourite playlists or catch up on work at the dedicated desks. There is also a little balcony – providing the perfect spot for a morning coffee. It’s worth noting there is no private parking available here, but you will find everything you could need within walking distance. Head towards Plaza de Olavide for tapas bars and cafes, or adventure further afield to El Retiro Park – less than thirty minutes away.  

Rose of Madrid

Located in the centre of Madrid, this apartment in the Chamberí neighbourhood is perfectly situated to explore everything the city has to offer. Start each day with breakfast and a cafe con leche alfresco on the balcony terrace as you soak up the morning sunshine and plan your day. 

Close by to this home, you can visit a plethora of museums, including the History Museum, which is just a twelve-minute walk away. Or on rainy days, why not watch a movie at the cinema – a short four-minute walk away. 

The lively Plaza del Dos de Mayo – an urban square which is named after the uprisings that happened on May 2nd 1808, when the population of Madrid rebelled against Napoleon's invading troops – is just an eleven-minute walk away. The plaza is home to many bars and cafes, and at the weekend it often hosts a craftwork and design market. 

Public transport links that are just a four-minute walk away will also allow you to explore further afield. El Retiro Park is just twenty-three minutes away using public transport. El Retiro was exclusively used by royalty until it was opened up to the public in the 19th-century, and now you can admire its ornate fountains, see statues of Spanish writers and heroes, take a leisurely stroll, and lunch in one of the open-air cafes. 

The stunning sights of the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Plaza Mayor are both eighteen-minutes away from this home using public transport. While Casa de Campo – where you will find a zoo and aquarium, an amusement park, tennis courts, an outdoor public swimming pool and much more – is just under an hour away on public transport. 

Whatever you’re looking for on your trip, whether its sightseeing or wine tasting – just twenty-six minutes away using public transport – this home is ideally located to do it all.

Bali meets Madrid at this home situated in elegant Chamberí. Relax on the terrace with its raffia shaded daybeds with a piña colada or feast on churros for breakfast at the dining table – we could stay here all day. 

The Indonesian theme continues inside with lush potted palms, geometric lantern-style lights, and a bamboo curtain that reveals a modern kitchen. Put some vinyl on the record player while you prepare a delicious home-cooked meal. 

If you can tear yourself away from the terrace, Chamberí awaits. Culture lovers can head to the Sorolla Museum and art gallery, set within an elegant 19th-century house, a fifteen-minute walk away. It's the same distance to Teatros del Canal, where you can watch a flamenco performance, or admire the mansions and browse the boutiques on Calle Zurbano, then go for tapas in Plaza de Olavide (six minutes on foot). Alternatively, if you crave green space, visit El Retiro Park, just over a twenty-minute walk from this gorgeous home.

Cool, stylish and modern, this apartment in Madrid's Almagro neighbourhood delivers in spades. Step inside, and you'll feel instantly at ease, with the neutral colour palette, hemp furnishings and green houseplants. Relax with a glass of Spanish wine in the bright open-plan living space while the record player serenades your afternoon lounging. We particularly liked the crittall-style window finish that cleverly divides the kitchen up, while keeping things sociable. Through to the bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms, where this home really becomes a sanctuary of rest and relaxation. Treat yourself to an indulgent bubble bath in the freestanding tub or wrap yourself up in a soft throw and enjoy a sneaky siesta. Those keeping one eye on work during their stay will find the dedicated office spaces perfectly suited for client catch-ups and quiet moments. 

But the real highlight of this home is upstairs on the building's communal roof terrace, where you can cool off with a dip in the pool while looking over the city's terracotta-hued skyline. Pre-dinnner drinks go down a treat up here too – we recommend gathering together for jugs of sangria and sunset views. Below, it's only twenty-six minutes on foot or seventeen minutes by public transport to the Plaza Mayor, lined with centuries-old buildings and traditional architecture. When you're not taking in the cultural attractions or tucking into a paella at one of the restaurants nearby, both El Retiro Park and the Prado Museum are under thirty minutes away by metro or on foot.

Earthy tones, comfy furnishing and big rooms – this apartment is a stylish choice for a couple or a solo traveller planning a longer than usual stay in the city. Set in a period building, you can expect tall ceilings and those quintessential double French doors, which open out to a traditional wrought-iron narrow balcony. The living room is bright and spacious, with a comfy sofa and a handy, bespoke desk area – perfect if you're here for work. Decorated with natural hues and bouquets of dried flowers, with the doors open to the street below, this place feels cool and relaxing. Elsewhere in the flat, there's a charming bedroom, a kitchen equipped with everything you might need and a shower room. And we love the dining nook just before you enter the living room. On the edge of the Justicia neighbourhood, here you'll be surrounded by neo-classical architecture and upscale boutiques. Walk to one of a handful of nearby museums or try out the nearby bistros and tapas bars. 

Pomander

This home in the Amalgro neighbourhood of Madrid is near galleries, museums and impressive foreign embassies – it’s also near some delicious Italian and Japanese restaurants should you want to switch it up from tapas. With a residential, upscale vibe, this neighbourhood is often likened to South Kensington’s quiet elegance – but you’ll also be adjacent to the trendy and lively neighbourhoods of Chueca and Malasaña, just hop on the metro at Bilbao (just a three-minute walk away). Inside this cool apartment, you’ll be all set up for life like a local. Enjoy a morning coffee out on the balcony, fix yourself a tasty breakfast, get some work done at the desk and play a round of darts with some friends over a bottle of Rioja. We love the dark green walls, leafy plants and light wood furniture that give this home a decidedly tropical feel – all while situating you in the heart of Madrid. This modern and practical base in the convenient Chamberí neighbourhood sets you up for a fuss-free stay well within reach of the city's major sights – the Plaza de España and the Puerta de Alcalá are a short walk away. While we love the overall design, there isn't a lot of natural light here, but the decor is modern and you'll find everything needed for a comfortable stay. There's a desk in the living area for those working from home plus the sofa bed accommodates a fifth person – though there's only enough dining space for four guests. It's also worth noting that the kitchen is a little dated, although you'll find plenty of great restaurants on your doorstep. 

The Spanish Air

This elegant apartment situated in the fashionable Trafalgar area, close to Chamberi, is a wonderful city gem, perfect for a family or a group of friends to base themselves while they enjoy all that Madrid has to offer.
 
Let yourself get seduced by the light-filled interior and bohemian, jungle-inspired décor, which will greet you as soon as you arrive. We love the warm cosy vibe of this home, with the gorgeous plants and unique pieces dotted around. Get comfy in the living room and enjoy an evening of Netflix or play some records and share a bottle of Spanish wine with your loved ones. You’ll be able to rustle up delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen and share them at the elegant wooden dining table. 

If you’ve got some laptop duties to attend to, you’ll love the cosy desk space. Located in Chamberí, this apartment makes an ideal base for a family or two couples keen to be in the heart of the Madrid action. The balcony, though small, is a welcome added bonus and just the spot for a morning coffee as the city wakes below. And while there’s no parking with this home, its central location means public transport is easily accessible, there are restaurants and shops on your doorstop, and key city must-sees such as El Retiro Park are within walking distance. 

Urban Hideaway

This stylish Trafalgar apartment boasts a communal swimming pool up on the roof and makes for an excellent base for working remotely. Well-behaved pets are welcome to join you for an additional fee, and you'll have a dedicated desk for staying productive during the day. The kitchen is equipped for whipping up light bites, but without an oven, you won't be cooking large meals here. That said though, you'll have your pick of Madrid's fantastic restaurants right on your doorstep, along with shops and public transport for commuting or sightseeing.

Located between the Rios Rosas and Chamberí districts, you’ll have a range of cultural attractions nearby when you stay at this apartment. The Sorolla Museum is situated within a 19th-century house, or head to the Teatro del Canal to see a play or some flamenco – both are within walking distance. After all that exploring, you’ll be glad to know this apartment has a lift up to its entrance. That said, there are steps inside this home (just three up from the living space to the kitchen). There’s a desk in the single bedroom, too, if you need to catch up on work while away, and of course, there’s always the dining table (which seats eight guests).

The Spanish Tangerine

We love this place, not only because it is nestled in the heart of one of our favourite cities, but also because this apartment is a true gem. Filled with gentle warmth and decorated in style, this is the perfect base for a couple’s getaway, or an ideal abode for a single traveller. 

To stay here is to get immersed in a desert-inspired oasis, decorated with carefully chosen furnishings, with numerous touches of colour and lush plants dotted around. You’ll find yourself inspired to enjoy a glass of wine or a quiet supper in the charming dining area, or a cocktail or two on the balcony. We are also very much in favour of the bedroom arrangements – from the comfort of the luxurious bed itself, to the unique décor and warm lighting, you will find it all you need for a perfectly restful night. 

If there is any work you need to catch up on, you’ll find just the spot at the especially dedicated office space, which also maintains the overall cosy vibe. 

Add to it the fact that you are located in the heart of one of the city’s most exciting areas, and we think you just found yourself the spot to have the perfect Madrid experience.

The facilities are simple here and you'll only have a kitchenette, but there's a range of restaurants right on your doorstep for whatever you're craving. Storage is tight here and there isn't a proper wall or door to separate the bedroom from the rest of the home, but we think it's a great spot for a couple or solo traveller looking to live like a local for a weekend. While you won't find parking outside, nearby public transport will make sure you get to visit all of Madrid's best bits with ease.

Style, comfort, and convenience combine at this sleek apartment near Madrid's top attractions. You'll be a twenty-minute Metro ride from the city's cultural scene, while the local residential area of Almagro offers a great selection of museums, eateries and shops. Located just north of Madrid’s vibrant Malasaña neighbourhood, this modern apartment puts you in a prime position to explore the city’s historic sights, all while enjoying the many coffee shops, bakeries and vintage clothing stores around you. 
 
Inside, parquet floors, contemporary furnishings and vibrant pops of tangerine orange in the plump sofa’s throw cushions set a welcoming scene in the living area. We love the glossy finish of the glass table’s metal legs – the ideal spot to enjoy an intimate meal when you’re not out sampling the local tapas scene – as well as the large mirror here that helps maximise this petite but perfectly pretty space. The bedroom, meanwhile, is a fashionably pared-back and has been curated with a restful sleep in mind.
 
When it comes to sightseeing, walk seventeen minutes to go shopping along Gran Vía with its beautifully striking architecture, or head to bustling Plaza de España, just over a twenty-minute stroll away. You’re also a twenty-five-minute walk from leafy El Retiro Park, while the Sorolla Museum is fourteen minutes away on foot.

This stylish apartment lies in Madrid's trendy Chamberí district, ideal for couples or solo travellers and their furry friends. You'll be well-placed to explore Trafalgar on foot, with an array of restaurants and the Plaza de Olavide a short walk away. The bedroom has a dedicated desk for remote working, making it great for business trips, while the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking up whatever you're craving. While you'll need to bring your own toiletries here, the central location is great for picking up any essentials or eating out. We can't get enough of the private terrace at this sleek apartment set in the residential Almagro neighbourhood. With a lounge area and a dining set, there's plenty of outside space to unwind – a real rarity for this central location. Renowned for its art and culture, the local area is full of galleries, museums, and authentic eateries – meanwhile Madrid's tourist centre is easily reachable via public transport. A Tango in Madrid

Lying between Madrid's sought-after Salamanca and the elegant Almagro district – this home has a fantastic address. Known as the "Golden Mile",  Ortega y Gasset Street (twenty minutes on foot) has an array of fashion boutiques, art galleries and Michelin-starred restaurants. It's around the same distance to El Retiro Park with its pretty boating lake. Or, a six-minute stroll will take you to Almagro, with its embassies, museums and upscale Spanish, Italian, and Japanese eateries. 

More Japanese influences can be found at this stylish apartment with its bamboo artwork, plants and oriental style prints, giving it a zen vibe. Put some vinyl on the record player and take a seat at the custom-built dining table for dinner – we love the attention to detail that has gone into this place. Then open up the French doors to the small balcony and let the evening air in. There's a communal gym here, too, if you want to keep up with your fitness regime. This home satisfies both body and mind.

From West To East

This apartment has a lovely homely atmosphere with its array of palm and weeping fig plants. Our favourite features here include the intricate woodwork detail in the living room and the unique oversized bamboo headboard in the bedroom. Whip up some churros with hot chocolate for breakfast in the modern kitchen after a workout in the communal gym, then open up the French doors to one of two balconies and get some fresh air. 

When you're ready to explore, head for tapas in Plaza de Olavide (six minutes on foot), then watch a performance at Teatros del Canal, a sixteen-minute walk. Or admire the mansions and browse the chic boutiques on Calle Zurbano, a seven-minute stroll. It's a few minutes more to Sorolla Museum, the former home and studio of artist Joaquín Sorolla. Alternatively, if you're looking for some peace and quiet, visit El Retiro Park, just over a twenty-minute saunter from this lovely home.

Located in the quieter neighbourhood of Ríos Rosas, this pad offers a calmer side of the city whilst still placing you within easy reach of the tapas bars and restaurants along Calle Ponzano. The interior style is stylish, with an open-plan living space to unwind. With large windows and a balcony, you'll enjoy plenty of natural light – especially when working from home. The highlight for us here is the communal pool – after a day of gallery hopping where better to enjoy a spot of sun? Gregorio Marañón metro station is right around the corner, although you can easily explore the boutiques, bars and hidden backstreets on foot.

Equal parts bohemian, artsy and elegant, the living area is bathed in light thanks to the stunning arched stained glass window that opens up in three parts to reveal views of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores church across the street. Further light flows in from the glass doors leading out onto a private rooftop terrace with incredible views over Madrid’s skyline. Whether you start mornings here over fresh coffee and pastries or end the night with a celebratory Sangria, you’ll love feasting on the wide-sweeping views and watching the hustle and bustle below from your privileged seventh-floor vantage point. 
 
Back in the living room, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Kick back on the stylish Mies Van der Rohe chair with one of the countless books on the shelves or make yourself comfortable as you listen to some vinyl from the host’s extensive collection. In the evenings, gather around the grand dining table for a celebratory soirée, then retreat to the tropical-inspired main bedroom for a blissful night’s sleep. With a children’s bed in the second bedroom as well as plenty of toys and games, this is the perfect spot for families, while the jazzy decor, vinyl collection, DVDs and stacked shelves will keep adults wonderfully happy too.
 
When it comes to exploring, your Chamberí neighbourhood offers a relaxed atmosphere away from the tourist crowds, with an abundance of tapas bars and restaurants frequented by locals. Elsewhere, the ​​Sorolla Museum is a seventeen-minute walk, bustling Gran Vía is an eighteen-minute stroll, while the Royal Palace of Madrid is twenty-five minutes away on foot. 
 


The Rohean

There’s a cool serenity to this home in Madrid’s lively Chueca neighbourhood with its blue and white living space and bohemian, Japanese-inspired decor. Mellow out on the sofa while listening to a vinyl record or catch up on work at the long desk in the forest green second bedroom. Carefully curated design details – like the master bedroom’s half-moon headboard – give the space a modern feel while the wicker and wood accents lend a peaceful feeling of nature to the proceedings. Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its views over the city’s rooftops. Sit here with your morning coffee while catching some Spanish rays or take in breathtaking sunset views over a glass of Spanish wine. Outside of your home, your Chueca locale is packed with cosy sidewalk cafes, tapas bars, restaurants and a vibrant bar scene, as well as boutiques, and popular markets like San Antón (a ten-minute walk) and Plaza del Dos de Mayo (a four-minute walk). Elsewhere there’s plenty of retail therapy to enjoy along Gran Vía (a fifteen-minute walk) and both the Royal Palace of Madrid and El Retiro Park are walkable in twenty-four minutes. 


Blue Dusk

There's a distinctly bohemian flavour to this apartment in the Chamberí neighbourhood of Madrid. It has something to do with the earthy colour scheme, wooden furnishings, woven decorative items and abundance of house plants, which all combine together to make for an instantly relaxing space.

This impression continues out in the home's impressive balcony space, which features an alfresco dining table and a shady bench that's more than comfy enough for a siesta. There's even another terrace just off the kitchen with more seating and a pleasant view of the Madrilenian rooftops.

It would be remiss at this point not to point out that it's not all boho here — the kitchen and bathrooms are contemporary in style, while the large windows and glass doors make the most of the sunny days that fill the calendar in this part of Spain.

The local neighbourhood is more residential than some of the city's livelier bits, but that's not to say there's not much to do nearby. Parque Bravo Murillo is less than five minutes' walk to the north and the Sorolla Museum located inside a nineteenth-century house takes only ten minutes on foot to reach.
