This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.

Despite being located in the heart of Malasaña, Autumn Jungle is tucked away on a quiet street. Walking to Plaza Mayor or Palacio Real will be a breeze, but the nearby streets of Madrid's trendiest neighbourhood will have you stopping in art galleries and cosy bars along the way. This is a well-executed home with curated artwork, where special attention has been given to the details. It might not be the biggest home in our collection, but it has a pleasant, bohemian chic vibe that fits in perfectly in the spirit of Malasaña.

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.

Dressed in earthy tones and with a rustic charm seeping from its walls, this beautiful penthouse is a welcome retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of Madrid. With light ushered in through the large windows, highlighting the exposed beams and comfortable furnishings, you’ll feel at home from the moment you set your suitcases down. We love the window seat nestled by the door to the terrace – perfect for snuggling down with a good book to while away the hours during some downtime in your apartment. 

The rooftop terrace will entice you out with ease. It’s just the spot to start or end the day –  enjoy a morning coffee as the city stirs into life below and the sun warms your skin or gather with friends of an evening, sharing a bottle of wine and tales from the day. Up here, hidden amongst the rooftops, you could almost forget you were in the heart of Madrid. With the distant sounds of the city below, you’ll soon be itching to get out and explore. There’s a whole host of eateries on your doorstep, so stop to sample some local cuisine before discovering the elegant boulevards and manicured parks Spain’s capital is so rightfully proud of.

Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city. From shopping on Gran Vía to dining in nearby restaurants, there is plenty to see and do here. Neither the kitchen nor some of the bedrooms are the biggest, but it has all the essentials for a hassle-free stay. Just note that though there's space for five, we think it's a better fit for four.

With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

Despite its central location, this is a peaceful home-from-home, ideal for unwinding after busy sightseeing days and evenings spent feasting on tapas. It’s bright and welcoming, flooded with light, and has been beautifully decorated in muted tones. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space, we’d recommend a maximum occupancy of two.

In the heart of Madrid, just a few metres away from Plaza Mayor and within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, this city apartment couldn't be better located. Keep in mind that some noise should be expected here, but we think it's a small price to pay for this central spot. You'll find a great selection of restaurants on your doorstep if you'd like to sample the local cuisine, but if you'd prefer to dine in, the kitchen is well-equipped for homemade tapas. 

Madrid Serenade

Standing proudly in the Salamanca district, this stylish apartment is only a stone’s throw away from the luxury retailers lining the Golden Mile. When it comes to wining and dining, there's truly no better place to stay in the city. Tootle along these 19th-century boulevards and join the locals at the gourmet food market of Platea Madrid. Or, why don't you spend a cultural day perusing the National Archaeological Museum?

Built in 1907, this Art Nouveau gem transcends time with its characterful features. Wake up beneath high ceilings and plan your daily itinerary over a Spanish breakfast of churros. Located in the north-most part of Salamanca, El Bodegón combines a sense of luxury and with a prime shopping destination of the nearby Calle Serrano (and the proximity to the sights). This is a luxuriously comfortable home that made us want to sink into the comfy sofa and rest, or enjoy a great book on the closed balcony. The master bathroom, as pretty as it is, feels a bit narrow, but it's still well-equipped and comfortable. 

El Bodegón

Located in Madrid’s central Justicia neighbourhood, this practical studio-style apartment may be short on space, but it offers a prime position from which to soak up the best of the city’s sights. At full capacity, two guests will need to share the sofa bed which will make the living area a little tight. And the lack of natural light and views may not suit those looking for a more scenic stay. But for a base to drop your bags and explore nearby Gran Vía, El Retiro Park and Plaza Mayor, it’s a cosy spot that hits the mark.
