This holiday home is a great base for families or groups of friends who don’t mind being a little further outside of Madrid. When you want to see the sights, you can walk to the Franco Rodriguez metro stop, so seeing the likes of El Retiro and Puerta del Sol is easy enough – though you’ll be staying far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. You’ll have a patio with a small private pool to cool off in, and an alfresco dining area. Four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, which isn’t the most private setup so is probably better suited to children sharing with their parents.

You'll find this apartment in Argüelles, home to low-key tapas bars, art-house cinemas, and traditional eateries popular with students. Exploring is a breeze here. Ventura Rodriguez metro station is a short walk away, though you can also stroll to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace in about twenty minutes. Back home, there's a practical yet cosy living space. The kitchen is well-appointed for rustling up light bites, while three bedrooms offer respite after a long day on your feet. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, this pad is a great choice.

Naturally, you will hear some city noise here. This south-facing apartment is light and bright, and we love the Juliet balcony off the open-plan living room with its leafy Ayala Street views. There’s not much food preparation space in the kitchen, but that said, it’s well-equipped, and you can always let your host arrange for a private chef to cook some authentic tapas dishes.

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

This roomy abode is perfect for families, friends, or professionals on business trips – there are several desks to work from if you need to, and comfy beds to sink into at the end of the day. Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city. Neither the kitchen nor some of the bedrooms are the biggest, but it has all the essentials for a hassle-free stay. Just note that though there's space for five, we think it's a better fit for four.

Many of Madrid’s main attractions are a ride away, but this location has excellent transport links. The Cuatro Torres Business Area with its skyscrapers is also within walking distance, so this apartment, which has a desk in the main bedroom, will appeal to business professionals. There’s an open-plan living area with a well-equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar, for when you want to cook at home. Whether you’re here for work or leisure this apartment offers a comfortable place to stay in a sought-after address.

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.


Toquilla

Situated in Madrazo, just a five-minute stroll from the bustling shop-lined avenue of Gran Vía and its majestic Metropolis Building, this home's location alone is enough reason for us to praise it to the skies. It's right at the heart of the action, though, tucked away on a side street and perched on the third floor, feels delightfully peaceful. Here, you're within walking distance of all the main sights, including El Retiro Park and the Plaza Mayor, both twelve minutes from your doorstep on foot.

From the outset, this home exudes grandeur with its pastel-hued facade and marble tiled entryway. The interior is just as elegant, boasting a calming canvas of high ceilings, wooden floors and stylish decor. Large windows usher in floods of sunlight, and we love the open-plan living space, where floor-to-ceiling French doors open up to not one but four balconies. After a restful slumber, spend mornings roosted here, sipping your coffee in the sunshine with picturesque street-facing views. 

Spend your days strolling through Madrid's palm-lined streets, passing neoclassical architecture, emblematic museums and bustling plazas bearing ample cafes and tapas bars. When you need a breather from the city heat, return to this sanctuary of serenity. Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Modern and centrally located, this apartment is an ideal city break for small groups. Sun-seekers will appreciate the outdoor space, with a shared swimming pool and communal gardens to relax in, while inside, you’ll find the building's fully equipped gym for morning workouts. The home itself is bright and stylish with balcony doors that open up and create a calming living space for the family to enjoy some quiet time or to socialise as a group. Nestled in the Chamberí neighbourhood, you'll find yourself just a stone's throw away from the vibrant Malasaña area and a leisurely ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía.

Situated in the central neighbourhood of Malasaña and just a fifteen-minute walk to most attractions, this apartment is a great base from which to explore Madrid. A light and beautiful home, the space combines cosy comfort with a youthful vibe. The living areas have wooden beams and whitewashed walls, but added to the style are pop-art paintings and Coca-Cola memorabilia. Homely touches include vases filled with flowers and the whitest of linen in the bedrooms. In the morning, throw open the tall windows and shutters and let the sounds of the city waft through the rooms. Rustle up breakfast in the kitted-out kitchen, then move into the lounge and sip coffee while looking down on the activity below. There are so many things to do here but there’s no need to rush. Shops, restaurants, bars and attractions are all within walking distance and if you need public transport the metro station is a mere five-minute stroll away. Phew!

Young heart

This is a calm, dreamy home with lots of nooks to hide away and relax. Think gentle, coherent style and wonderful details, such as the rock wall in the living room or the breakfast bar in the open kitchen. The huge door-to-ceiling windows in the living room bring in the daylight without the noise, making you almost forget that you're located in the heart of Malasaña. We recommend the nearby Toma Cafe for a taste of the local atmosphere.

Coco Mimosa

Situated in the heart of the city, this stunning modern apartment serves as the perfect base to explore everything the Spanish capital has in store. With natural light streaming into the living space and more than enough amenities to make your stay completely comfortable, the apartment is ideal for a small family or a romantic getaway. You'll be won over by the convenient central location, a stone's throw from the famous Plaza Mayor as well as Puerta del Sol. Should you find yourself craving an authentic Madrid dining experience, why not make your way to the Madrid institution, Sobrino de Botín – it's just a four-minute walk away. If you're looking for a room with a view, spend an evening among the stars at The Secret Garden, or El Corte Inglés, and take in the stunning cityscape views from the rooftops.

While not overly flashy, Molten Bronze's simplicity is refreshing. The interior is clean, with a few things that really standout, like the kitchen splashback, which is not something we get to highlight very often. For the most part, the furniture and decorations come from Maison du Monde, so it’s solid and stylish, if not unique. The location won’t be for everyone – it’s on a busy street in Malasaña, so it isn’t very peaceful, but there’s loads to do and you won’t get bored.

Design meets comfort at this light-filled apartment in central Madrid. Located in the hip and happening Malasaña area, this unique space captures the creative spirit of its neighbourhood. With bohemian textiles and eclectic art, the overall ambience is grounded by simple furniture and contemporary units.

Nearby, you'll find a plethora of spots to sample paella and enjoy tipples on the characterful, mural-clad streets. Walk down the city's signature wide boulevards and reach the historic centre, where Plaza Mayor and a selection of infamous museums await. If you only have time for one, make it the Prado – the collection of European art is one of the world's best, with works by Goya and Titian housed inside. El Retiro Park is just a stone's throw away, a manicured 19th-century expanse with a blooming rose garden and boating lake. This idyllic spot is not to be missed if you're in town on a romantic getaway.

The apartment may be a better base for travellers seeking a lively stay in Barcelona, as you'll find gay bars and a student atmosphere within strolling distance. As for your time indoors, imagine coming together in the modern living area, which opens out to a Juliet balcony. And if there's work to do while you're here, we love that there's a home office to help you focus.

If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above. 

There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, serving everything from traditional tapas to ramen and tacos. We love the exposed brick and stone walls, though it does mean it's a little dark. The kitchen is the ideal size to rustle up lighter fare, but we suspect you'd prefer dining out.

Located metres from the iconic Plaza Mayor, this lovely Madrid apartment is the perfect place to stay if you want to get the most out of your time in the city. With an understated, soothing colour palette highlighted by the natural light flooding through the windows, you'll feel at home the moment you step through the front door. Its central location means you're surrounded by tempting tapas bars, charming neighbourhood cafes, and plenty of beautiful streets to wander down with no particular goal. So after a long day of adventuring, snuggle up on the cosy sofa and stream a classic Pedro Almodóvar movie before retreating to the serene bedrooms for a restful night's sleep. In the morning, sip on a cup of coffee as the colourful streets come to life below. Then, for blissful days out, take a stroll through the lush gardens of Jardines de Sabatini and Plaza de Oriente, mere minutes away from your home.

It's genuinely cosy and comfortable and the original artwork on the walls gives it a distinctly homey vibe. Ideal for a younger crowd, it's a ten-minute walk to central Gran Via, and fifteen to the busy Puerta del Sol.

Up here, hidden amongst the rooftops, you could almost forget you were in the heart of Madrid. With the distant sounds of the city below, you’ll soon be itching to get out and explore. There’s a whole host of eateries on your doorstep, so stop to sample some local cuisine before discovering the elegant boulevards and manicured parks Spain’s capital is so rightfully proud of.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

Boasting a privileged position in Madrid’s culture-rich Las Letras neighbourhood, this top-floor apartment offers comfort and style in equal measure.

Paquelin is a comfortable home in the heart of it, immaculate and simple. With only a few art prints on the walls (which we thoroughly enjoyed) and generally inobtrusive furniture, it's the kind of home that will best suit an adventurous family who will make it their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's still well equipped and bright.

Situated in the Salamanca district, this smart spot reflects its sophisticated location perfectly – we think you'll feel at home in no time at all.
