Admire the half-timber houses in Place des Lices before holing up in a harbourside restaurant to watch the boats to and fro. And when the day draws to a close, find a spot on the sandy Plage de Kervert, a twenty-minute drive away, to watch the sun set over Quiberon Bay.  

It’s Oh So Quiet

Hidden away in the Breton countryside a short distance away from Bénodet, this warm and welcoming holiday home makes an elegant retreat from the whirl of daily life. Inside, you'll love the large glass doors that, when thrown open, bring in the beautiful sea breeze. From the contemporarily furnished living room to the fully-equipped kitchen, the house comes with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Outside is a well-kept garden with an expansive lawn dotted with beautiful trees and a heated swimming pool to boot. When you're not splashing about, it's not hard to imagine spending countless hours on the surrounding deck, taking in all the sights from the comfort of a lounger while sipping on a cider — a drink for which the region is famous. If you ever manage to snatch yourselves away from this property, a cosy restaurant and a large golf course await nearby, as well as several sandy beaches just a short drive away.

Mise en Place

Set in a sleepy hamlet in north-west France, this 19th-century house has been fully remodelled with contemporary furniture and a range of mod cons. Driftwood panelling and parquet floors create a warm, cosy ambience, while the plush carpets and occasional intricate antique act as reminders of the property's glorious past. Gather together your travel companions and treat them to a delectable French meal you've whipped up in the fully-equipped kitchen — the local speciality is Poulet Breton, which is chicken in a sauce of crème fraîche, cider and mustard. It's not hard to picture lazy meals that stretch on for hours while you’re sipping wine, chit-chatting and making memories. When the weather is agreeable, the beach is only 500 metres down the road past villas and lush open fields. On this sandy stretch, you can experience days of pure ocean bliss, whether swimming in the shimmering waters, topping off your tan or building sandcastles. In the evening, fire up the barbecue out in the lush garden and enjoy a quiet evening with your loved ones under the stars. 

La Chanson du Grillon

Carnac is a fabulous hub of quaint churches, artisan cheesemongers, delicious seafood restaurants, and prehistoric monuments. This town’s eclectic mix of activities is sure to keep you on your toes, but it’s equally wonderful for simply sunbathing on the shore. And when you're living on a street called Boulevard de la Plage, you can imagine that there might be a beach in sight. A five-minute stroll from the beachfront of Grande Plage de Carnac, this modern studio is the perfect base for your seaside stay. Set in a mid-century block of flats, the understated exteriors don’t give away much about what you’ll find inside. Elegant and sophisticated, your living space features wooden floors, cabinets, and a wicker lampshade which bring a certain warmth to this cosy space. With your own little private balcony, alfresco dining is certainly on the cards. Break into a fresh baguette with a few slices of Saint-Paulin cheese (a Breton favourite) and olive oil as you plan the afternoon ahead. If you’ve eaten too much for watersports and swimming on the beach, take a seven-minute drive to the Carnac Stones – these granite megaliths date as far back as 4500 BC.

Saint-Paulin

This cozy 3-room apartment is located in a residential district just 50 meters from the sea with direct access to the beach. The apartment is situated on the fourth floor and has a south-facing terrace with beautiful sea views. There are four bedrooms, including one on the ground floor with a French bed and an en-suite shower. Upstairs, there is another room with a French bed and two rooms with twin beds. Guests can enjoy a spacious terrace with outdoor furniture and a barbecue, as well as a garden that is currently being developed. The house is pretty and bright, with a lovely open-plan living and dining space. This is the heart of the home, where you’ll gather to cook and dine together, and relax in the evenings. You might shop at the weekly local market for fresh ingredients, and whip up Breton pancakes or pork rillettes. 

Outside, the enclosed garden is delightful in the afternoon. Soak up the sunshine on a sun lounger, or gather around the table for snacks and a chilled glass of wine. The south-facing terrace is perfect in the early evening, when the sun is starting to dip in the sky. 

It takes just fifteen minutes by car to reach some of Brittany’s nicest beaches – pack a picnic and make a day of it. You might also take a day-trip to Pont-Aven – the famous painters’ village is just twenty minutes away.
