A stone's throw from the sandy beaches of Cancale, in the picture-pretty bay of Port Mer, this charming home offers the very best of coastal living. Boasting a gorgeous garden with plenty of cosy spots to sit down and breathe in the salty sea air, start your days with coffee on the lawn while watching the boats sail by. 

If you want to see the ocean up close, the beach is less than 1km away – take a walk down to the golden sands to discover what the famous Emerald Coast has to offer. When you're feeling peckish, Cancale oysters are a must-try. Head to one of the local restaurants or buy some from the Mont Saint-Michel oyster market and take them home to prepare yourself. We highly recommend an alfresco dinner on the terrace, washed down with a glass of French wine. When you're finished, head up to the terrace to watch the sunset – the waterfront views have to be seen to be believed. 

When darkness falls, head inside to cuddle up on the sumptuous sofa to watch a movie. If you're travelling with little ones, the mezzanine level dens are the perfect place for a bedtime story to make sure they settle in for a good night's sleep. 

Emerald Coast of Cancale

If you’re seeking a coastal gem minutes from the sands of Saint-Malo, this contemporary dwelling has it all. Just a short walk from Rochebonne Beach, and with a nautical style, modern amenities and light-filled interior – this boho gem is perfect to stretch out and relax in after long days of swimming and sun-soaking. 

Stepping inside, you'll find clean lines, natural textures and artworks inspired by this home’s coastal location that make an instant impression. We love the open-plan living space – with its velvety corduroy sofa and glittered wave paintings –  pour yourself a glass of cider and settle here with your loved ones for conversations about today’s surf.

Location-wise, you're a few minutes’ stroll from the sandy shores, where you can spend days riding the waves and eating oysters. We also recommend a visit to the centre of the city, a quick drive away, to soak up the local culture. Dine in an authentic seafront restaurant and sip a local beer overlooking the waves.

Rochebonne Boho

Moments from the Emerald Coast, this contemporary home offers the perfect base for those seeking a retreat just outside of Saint-Malo but still within a short drive. With a minimalist style, plush furnishings and a light-filled interior, this coastal gem is the perfect space to return to after a day hiking the local trails and exploring the historic site of sculpted rocks. 

Inside, you'll find a crisp white colour palette with cooling grey accents and poppy orange textures. Pop open a bottle of Chenin Blanc and soak up the summer sun from your private terrace after a long day hiking the 10km cliffside path towards the tip of Grouin. Sample some delights of your location and rustle up a dinner of local scallops and share conversations around the dining table long into the evening. You’ll fall blissfully asleep in the simple and serene bedroom – the waves just beyond your window.

Location-wise, you're a short walk from the shoreline, where you can spend days on the sands of Plage du Val. We also recommend a day trip into the city to soak up the local culture – we suggest the Gothic-style Saint-Malo Cathedral and the 18th-century privateer’s museum, La Demeure de Corsaire.

Sculpted Rocks

Enjoy your stay at this cosy apartment nestled in the charming Saint Servan area of Saint Malo, perfect for a peaceful romantic getaway or as a coastal holiday base for a small family. You’ll be able to easily access the town’s beaches, as well as the port and its many shops and restaurants. 

While the place might be compact in size, it offers all the comforts to make your time here a relaxing and restful one. Kick back and unwind in the bright living room and enjoy an intimate supper out on the balcony. You’ll be able to rustle up quick, Brittany-inspired dishes in the well-stocked kitchen area, and there’s also a dining area indoors. 

You’ll wake up well-rested in the comfy bedroom, ready for more coastal adventures. 

In addition to the joys of Saint Malo, you'll also be a half-an-hour walk from the beaches and the magnificent promenade of Alet, and just a ten-minute walk from the house there's the famous shopping street of Ville-Pépin. 

Brittany Sky 

This delightful home is a countryside dream. Quaint in style, this home is part of a magnificent 400-year-old building, beautifully renovated and modernised. Exuding calm, you will feel the ambience before you even enter. Soft cream stone and white shutters set the scene for the beauty that resides indoors. The open-plan kitchen and living space is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a romantic evening cooking dinner. The moss green chaise centrepiece is where you may kick your slippers off and pop your feet up for an evening in front of the open fireplace. Moving up your spiral staircase, you’ll find a lovely bedroom decorated in French chic decor. Archway doorways, beamed ceilings and soft cream interiors set the scene for a restful night's sleep. 

On waking in the morning, peek out of your delightful windows across the countryside. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face and a gentle breeze as you sip on your morning coffee. Whilst you’ll be residing in this serene rural area, you’ll smell the salt water with the beaches only 2km away. Close to the village centre and quaint shops, you’ll have plenty to entertain you across the Emerald Coast. 

Moss Cottage

Location is everything at this modern home set just 500 metres from the beach in the picturesque seaside town of Cancale. Renowned as the oyster capital of Brittany, there's a thriving port and restaurant scene to discover here. Or jump in the car to explore other nearby Emerald Coast gems, including the iconic tidal island of Le Mont St Michel. Back home, while we’re into pared-back interiors, the bedrooms do feel sparse and have limited storage space. But for a home with such a unique setting, we can look past that.

Cancale Charm

In an old house right on the seafront, this little home is the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries in Brittany. Just half an hour from Saint-Malo, the loft apartment has character features like sloping ceilings, heavy oak beams and partially exposed stone walls, but at the same time it's been modernised with a bright white paint job, herringbone wood floors and skylights. Surprisingly open and bright, we particularly love the living space with its sea view window. The kitchen is perfectly well-equipped for cooking light meals at home but it's only a five-minute walk to the town centre with its bakeries, restaurants and bars (it's known for its oysters, by the way). Keen walkers will be able to explore the local hiking trails and there are all sorts of water sports on offer nearby too.

Seaforth

This home in Saint-Malo is full of classic charm, with large picture windows, rustic floorboards and exposed beams. Mixed in delicately alongside all of these stunning features, you’ll find some unintrusive modern touches. The whole effect is one that calms you and washes a sense of tranquility over your skin from the moment you step foot inside. 

A lovely little sun room and terrace provides the perfect spot for some quiet time. Grab a coffee and a book and enjoy a little peace as the sun warms you. When it’s time to catch up with your loved ones, the open-plan living, kitchen and dining area gives plenty of space for everyone to gather over good food, fine wine, and enjoy great conversation. 

Head outdoors into the garden and it’s quite the sun trap. Settle down on the comfortable deckchairs and enjoy the scent of the sea in the air. When it tempts you enough, it’s just a short 300-metre stroll to the nearest beach. For those keen to get out on the water, you’ll also find a sailing school just twenty minutes away by foot. With much to do in the area, this home provides an elegant backdrop to what promises to be a wonderful stay.


Sunshine & Sails

Ideally located on the Emerald Coast, this French home is all about lazy mornings in bed, fresh breakfast croissants at the dining table, coffee in the garden, and beach days out in the sunshine and fresh air. In short, you’re encouraged to forget about time, toss out the itinerary and just do whatever calls to you. 

If that’s reading out on the terrace where you can admire the beautiful garden whenever you take a sip of your coffee, then so be it. Or maybe you’d prefer to snuggle together on the sofa to binge-watch a few seasons of your favourite series.

Walk down to the Plage du Val for romantic strolls on the beach, or explore the cove of Havre de Rothéneuf. Drive to Saint-Malo where you can spend the day taking enviable holiday photos as you wander around hand-in-hand. Stop off for a meal at the local restaurant on your way back, or order in so you enjoy an intimate dinner right at home. 

Key to the Emerald Coast

Overlooking a small beach on the atmospheric shores of Dinard, this traditional family home has been lovingly restored into a private seaside sanctuary. 

Set across two floors with an adjoining self-contained apartment, you’ll find an abundance of space to relax and savour the simple pleasures of coastal living. From laid-back gatherings in the living room to refreshing drinks in the garden and intimate candlelit dinners, this is the kind of space that inspires you to settle in and make it your own. And with Dinard’s colourful market just a short walk away, you’ll find it easy to connect with the authentic charm of Brittany. 

From here, it’s just a five-minute walk to Prieuré beach where days can be spent strolling along the sand, embracing ice-cold swims, picnics and incredible views of nearby Saint-Malo (just a fifteen-minute drive away). Families will love the close proximity to the mini-golf course, while Promenade du Clair de Lune makes the perfect setting to watch the sunset.

Visit the feudal castle and take in the beautiful traditional architecture. Hikers will be able to take advantage of the walking trails atop the Point de la Varde cliffs with incredible views over the whole bay, and through the gorgeous Rance valley with its picturesque landscape punctuated by fishing villages and mills.
