Outside your door, you’ll find yourself in the perfect location for reaching the ocean, as well as the forest, which lies just across the fence. Rent a bike and venture down the famous trails or for a day of city strolls you’ll have the choice between the coastal grandeur of Biarritz and the quiet charm of Bayonne, both within a fifteen-minute drive away.

Better known for its Atlantic rollers and camping sites, this stretch of the French coast is all about laid-back summer living. On the outskirts of Bidart, this home epitomises that with its clean lines and minimalist style. Using white walls, yellow sofas, and geometric light fittings, the apartment feels modern and new. Chill out on one of the Eames rocking chairs, soak up some rays on the deckchairs or watch what's cooking in the kitchen from the breakfast bar. A small balcony looks out over hills and other homes and is our favourite spot for assessing the conditions for the day's adventures. If surfing is on the cards, it's less than a 10-minute drive to Bidart beach, while Biarritz and its glamorous facade is just 15. Not in the mood for that much activity? We suggest padding down to the communal pool for lengths, before heading back to the terrace for a glass of something icy.

With a truly enviable location on the Pyrénées-Atlantiques overlooking the endless blue of the Atlantic Ocean, this 1930s-style villa was made for lazy summer afternoons.

There are a plethora of spots to sit and soak up the sunshine, whether that's surveying the surroundings from the balcony, tucking into dinner on the terrace or reading in the peaceful gardens. If this all sounds a little too inactive, you're more than welcome to notch up a couple of lengths in the swimming pool or hone your forehand on the tennis court.

The interior feels bright and cooling thanks to the white walls, tiled flooring and French doors. An extensive collection of colourful artwork is sure to catch the eye, although it must be said that sports fans will much prefer the foosball table.

When it comes to beaches, both Grand Plage and Plage d'Erromardie sit only twenty minutes' walk from the home, while the portside restaurants and market of St Jean de Luz take slightly longer. The resort town of Biarritz is just a half-hour drive away, too.

Enjoy alfresco meals in the sunshine or sunbathe in privacy from the blissful spot. For a more sociable affair, head down to the famous Landes beach and the Capbreton port. With a wealth of seafood restaurants, oyster huts and beach shops to make the most of – this atmospheric seaside resort is a gorgeous place to discover come night and daytime. If you fancy your luck on the slot machines – the casino located just 300 metres away offers a fun change of scenery after a day on the beach.

Nestled in the commune of Labenne, this home is ideal for an escape to the south-west of France. It's spacious, with plenty of room for ten guests to make the most of their stay in this charming area. The interior is simple yet stylish, with a huge fireplace, traditional wooden beams and tiled floors creating a welcoming atmosphere where you can really relax. There's a piano, should you feel like serenading your loved-ones, and a comfortable selection of seating in zesty tangerine and lemon tones. Budding chefs will love picking up some fresh produce from the local market, before heading to the kitchen or the outdoor grill to create some delicious dishes. The private garden has a grassy lawn along with an outdoor entertaining space, where the group can gather for alfresco feasts. Take a stroll down to the Central Beach of Labenne, or hop on your bike to arrive on the sand in just ten minutes. Nature lovers can explore Marais d'Orx National Nature Reserve, while those that prefer a more glamorous day trip can take a thirty-minute car-ride to Biarritz.

Closer to home, the classic indoor market of Les Halles de Saint-Jean-de-Luz is less than a minute from the apartment, where you can stock up on fresh, local produce to take back to the full kitchen. Sleek, modern cabinets in dove grey hide myriad appliances to whip up a family meal, enjoyed at the stylish dining table set for six. The open living, dining room and kitchen is made bright by sliding glass doors that open up to a Juliet-style balcony, looking out over the city’s rooftops. A motif of white and blue throughout is a reminder that the sea is just beyond your street and skylights in the bedrooms flood the place with natural light.

This home in the south of France offers sun, sand, and so much more. It's located just a twelve-minute drive away from the coast, and has a fantastic range of amenities that will keep even the fussiest guests smiling. 

There's a relaxed ambiance throughout the house, thanks to the warm colour scheme and use of natural wood. You can relax on the huge sofa with a glass of wine, challenge your guests to a round of pool, or take a nap in one of the serene bedrooms. This home was also made for outdoor living – head onto the patio and soak up the sun, before plunging into the glittering swimming pool. And, when you get hungry, you can enjoy a delicious grilled feast hot off the barbeque along with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. 

Take the short drive over to the beach, and you can pick from a range of beaches – we recommend dipping your toes in the Atlantic Ocean at Plage des Océanides. If you fancy a game of golf, then the nearest course is also a twelve-minute drive away. And, the Réserve Naturelle Nationale du Marais d'Orx is a wonderful place for a walk through the wetlands – it's just ten minutes away by car.

Tucked away in the French countryside, this charming renovated farmhouse provides the ideal retreat for families or groups of friends who want a picturesque escape. While away the hours drinking the finest wines in the open-plan living space with its authentic exposed beams and tiled floors, or head outside and watch the sunset on the vine-draped terrace. 

In the mornings, we recommend grabbing some freshly-baked baguettes from the nearby bakery. In the afternoons, the extensive gardens make a great area for play for young and older alike, and the swimming pool is perfect for a quick nap in the sun. Further afield, you’ll want to visit the beaches at Hossegor, a cosmopolitan surfing hub with chic boutiques and markets.
