Guests can access both of these facilities for an extra fee, as well as the bar and restaurant which sit just a few minutes' walk away. The inside of the home has the feel of a secluded forest cabin, thanks to the wooden ceilings, floors and walls. However, the smart design of the address means it can adapt to the seasons — there's underfloor heating for the colder months and glass doors leading out to a balcony for when the sun makes an appearance. When the weather does look bright, Tenby's South Beach can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot, while the town of Penally can be reached in twenty.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

In fact, we think the whole thing is rather smart, with a dark blue kitchen, luxe rainfall showers in the glossy bathrooms and even a wine fridge for your bottles of bubbly. When you're not at home soaking up the view or lounging on the sofa, spend your time wandering through Tenby's walled centre, admiring the colourful houses, browsing the local boutiques and dining at the many delicious eateries. And with five beaches to tickle your fancy, you'll have plenty of options when it comes to sprawling in the sand. Our favourite is Castle Beach, a five-minute walk away.

Stroll to the sleepy seaside town's restaurants and boutique shops, or walk to Tenby North Beach in under ten minutes. The interiors are a little dated, but the home is well-kept, cosy and equipped with most of what you'll need for a comfortable stay – though you'll have to bring your own towels. With views and a central location, this home does well for itself, and the compact balcony is a nice bonus, especially for a nightcap.

Overlooking Tenby's South Beach, this apartment on the lower-ground floor of a handsome yellow building is ideal for those who want to be able to go from their front door to the seaside in a matter of seconds, rather than minutes.

Aside from this proximity to the sea, we found lots else to like about the home. The design is pared-back and sophisticated, with parquet floors, white walls and a selection of chic furnishings creating the relaxed ambience of a high-end hotel's lobby. The baby-blue kitchen is both super-sleek and big enough for cooking up hearty meals, while there's also a private courtyard outside just in case the weather's nice enough to dine alfresco.

If that's the case, there's plenty to see and do in this south Welsh idyll. Tenby Castle is only ten minutes' walk up the coast, as is the town's Museum and Art Gallery. This area by the North Beach is also where you can catch a ferry to Caldey Island, on which you can visit the monastery and spot some of the diverse wildlife.

A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.

As you look around this home, it becomes clear very quickly that it has been designed to make the most of the beautiful coastal scenery in which this part of south Wales really specialises. In the living room, huge bi-fold doors open up to Juliet balconies that gaze out over Tenby's South Beach, while in the bedrooms there are further balconies, only this time with a view of Caldy Island. With such glorious panoramas, you could be forgiven for not really paying the interior much attention, but when you do get around to it, you'll find a modern space that's simple but effective — we're fans of the minimalist white kitchen, in particular. As you can probably imagine when looking out the window, the beach isn't too far away — just five minutes' walk, in fact. Tenby Castle can be reached in under a quarter of an hour on foot, too.

Original stone brickwork sets the scene for a cosy stay surrounded by nature. We love the serene tranquillity felt from the moment you step foot on the property. Super luxurious yet charmingly old-school, this manor sits in the charming town of Penally, near Tenby. So as well as having cosy country pubs and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on your doorstep, it’s just a six-minute drive into the centre of Tenby to explore the castle and beach. The home itself stands bay-windowed and bold, bright white against the blue sky. Built around 1840, it’s a Grade II listed building with two acres of stepped, walled garden to explore. Terraces with panoramic sea views, a swimming pool with adjoining hot tub, flowerbeds bursting with bloom and secret grottos fill the grounds. When dinner calls, there are plenty of places to dine – the sunny orangery that opens out onto the terrace, the sunny cubby hole in the kitchen or in the long, formal dining room. Chefs of the group can cook in the family kitchen, or leave it to a professional and make use of the catering kitchen in the basement. Down here you’ll also find the private bar and games room, like your own personal pub. Bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes to fit couples and kids, and our favourite has to be the master with its hand-carved four-poster bed and view of the sea from the bay window.

Perched above Tenby’s South Beach, this apartment – which is one of the only homes in this location with a small outdoor decking – offers incredible views of the sea which are truly its crowning glory. Mornings here would be best spent enjoying a leisurely cuppa and breakfast, seated on the balcony as you overlook the shore. From here, you can take in the breathtaking vistas of golden sandy beaches and rolling waves, with a panorama that even stretches as far as St. Catherine’s Island and Caldey Island.

Spend your days on Tenby's South Beach itself, which is a short walk away, below a promenade and cliffs. Then, when you return home, get comfortable on the sofa or in the armchair to continue admiring the views. Even while you’re cooking dinner at night, you will be able to snatch glimpses of the sea views through the windows.
