Nestled within a lemon orchard, this stunning villa is practically hanging off the side of the Amalfi Coast. On the villa’s stepped terraces, the citrus scent of fresh lemons combines with sea salt as you enjoy uninterrupted views over the azure Tyrrhenian Sea. Walkways shaded by twisting grapevines, magenta bougainvillaea and wisteria bursting in purple clouds give way to panoramic views. You’ll find endless secluded spots for dining outdoors, or lounging in the sun. Inside, we were really taken by the hand-painted tiles in every room, bursting with blues, yellows and greens, and the hand-painted details like the decal in the shower, that feel distinctly Amalfi. Rather than facing the TV, the living room’s sofa points directly at the French windows and that incredible sea view and both main bedrooms have their own French windows for a view all to yourself. From the villa, it’s a short walk to the beach at the bottom of Maiori. Here, you can join the coastal walking path that links all the quintessentially Amalfi Coast villages. Or, head out in the car to the town of Amalfi, a fifteen-minute drive away.

This Italian villa grabbed our attention for its front-row location on the Amalfi coast. You can enjoy spectacular sea views from the garden, balconies, and terraces, and you also have direct access to a private beach. Your host can provide breakfast to begin the day at a leisurely pace, and if you’re travelling with children, babysitter recommendations are available. There are lots of stairs to climb here, including a spiral staircase in the home, steep steps in the terraced garden, and steps to the private beach, so it won’t suit everyone. Location-wise, you’re in the pretty village of Conca dei Marini with many picturesque coastal towns, including popular Amalfi, within easy driving distance.

The views over the Amalfi Coast from this home’s infinity pool and whirlpool are incredible. There are a variety of terraces for relaxing and alfresco dining, while inside this place, dating from the 15th century, there’s a traditional feel with beams and handmade tiles. There's an open fire in the living room for cooler evenings and all of the bedrooms are en-suite (two also have a private terrace). Situated in the oldest part of Amalfi, it’s just a short walk down the steps to the centre of the town or you can take one of two public lifts.

Now, this is what we call a view. Perched above the Gulf of Salerno, this villa offers breathtaking scenery everywhere you look. Our favourite spot is the terrace, where a glass of wine complements the panoramas perfectly. There's also a private Jacuzzi that makes soaking under the stars a real treat. The interior design is simple but chic, though the main bedroom doesn't feel particularly private. And, while the kitchen is on the smaller side, you'll only be a five-minute walk from the eateries in Amalfi. That's pretty hard to beat.

Spending your days lounging on the coastline's classically glamorous beaches, where the hardest decision is which of the authentic trattorias to try for lunch today. And when evening rolls around? Slipping into something elegant for a pre-dinner Aperol Spritz on the balcony as the sun dips below the horizon, casting everything in a deep golden light that is unmistakably Italian. Then ambling into the picturesque town of Praiano for a dinner of freshly made pasta in unctuous sauces, freshly grilled fish and vegetables, or mouth-watering meat dishes. Sound good? Well, if it does, then this timeless holiday villa compiling two separate self-contained apartments within it might just be the perfect place to make those dreams a reality. 

Recently renovated to an exceptionally high standard without compromising any of its original charm, this home enjoys a privileged location in the hills overlooking Praiano – just above the famous San Genarro Church and offering panoramic vistas that take in both Positano and the island of Capri bobbing in the distance. 

The home itself is understated in the best possible way. Devoid of any over-the-top or flashy fixtures and fittings, it exudes an easy charm that's perfectly in keeping with its surroundings and the archetypal aesthetics of this part of Italy. Think terracotta tiles, majolica bathrooms, exposed stone and wood beam detailing, and expert placement of fine antiques alongside simpler modern pieces that fulfil a function, and ornate wrought iron balustrades.

Right on your doorstep, you'll discover a trio of bars and restaurants serving excellent refreshments. For history lovers, we recommend visiting the 12th-century Church of San Luca Evangelista, which houses paintings by Giovanni Bernardo Lama.

From the moment you arrive, you'll be taken by the brick fireplace and arched ceilings inside this ancient farmhouse. Roll out of bed each morning feeling refreshed and step out onto your balcony, where you'll be met with spectacular sea views. Share a breakfast of ricotta pancakes with your loved ones and plan an outing around this dining table, then head out on the Amalfi Coast. When you return, open up a bottle of Italian wine and unwind in your private hot tub. Perhaps you'll want to keep things easy with a barbecue picnic on the lawn while the sun sets.

If you're seeking out some of the Amalfi Coast's best nature spots, make sure you add a hike on the 'Path of the Gods' to your itinerary, considered by many to be the best hiking trail in the area thanks to sweeping mountain views of the Mediterranean.

After a day of exploring, head home to relax in the outdoor hot tub, before indulging in a laid-back dinner cooked on the barbecue.

There’s also a boho feel thanks to the warm, woody furniture and ample windows that keep that connection to the outdoors firmly in place. 

Go from your bedroom into the garden in moments as you escape through the doors – if you’re on the first floor, you’ll have an entire balcony to yourself and we recommend waking up before dawn, at least once, so you can watch the sunset from up there. Spend as much time as possible outdoors, swimming in the private pool, sunbathing in the sunloungers and enjoying snacks and drinks as you admire the view.

Perched on a hill above the famous church of San Gennaro on a walkway known as the 'Path of the Gods' the apartment overlooks the pretty town of Praiano, with views of Positano and the glamourous island of Capri in the distance. The centre of Praiano (one of those towns emblematic of this region that clings implausibly to hillsides plunging dramatically into the deep blue waters below) is reachable by means of a set of around 60 stairs, at a distance of around 200 metres. There, not only will you find bags of typical Italian charm, but a wealth of lovely cafés where you can watch the world go by with an aromatic cup of energising espresso, authentic trattoria serving out-of-this-world pasta, seafood, and meat dishes accompanied by freshly grilled vegetables, and higher-end restaurants with panoramic sea views. 

As for the apartment itself? It feels traditional, without feeling dated – seamlessly stitching together fine pieces of antique furniture, with clean-cut modern and functional items, whilst tile flooring and the occasional wooden beam act as a nod to a bygone era. We especially love the exposed stone detailing on the archway in the bedroom area. Could there be a better way to wake up than to open your eyes and see the twinkling waters of Tyrrhenian Sea shimmering before you, as that enigmatic Almafi Coast light streams through the window creating patterns on the ground as it hits the wrought iron balcony?

Upon A Heavenly Hilltop

Packed with traditional charm and boasting a top-notch terrace, this home in Vietri sul Mare ticks a lot of boxes. It's within walking distance of the town's beaches, marina, and train station. Of course, the Amalfi Coast is known for its hills, so you'll have to climb a few stairs to get there. Back home, the living area has sumptuous sofas and a small kitchen where you can rustle up Italian classics – just note that two guests will sleep on a sofa bed. But the real star is the private garden and patio, perfect for perching with a glass of wine and soaking up the sunshine.

Vietri Adventure

With absolutely breathtaking views of the Amalfi coast, this home will give you the feeling of being perched high above the world where time is only a construct and the days bend to your will. Let your eyes roam the steeple of the famous church of San Gennaro, tracking the horizon over parts of Capri and Positano as you sit back on the balcony with a glass of Aglianico. 

Take your time familiarising yourself with the stone arches and traditional terracotta tiles of the home as you feel them between toes and fingertips. With various sets of doors leading out onto the balcony – our favourite being the exit from the kitchen where you can breathe in seasalt air as you put an antipasto platter together – you’ll find the space amply lit and fresh. Dine together at the table that’s ideally located right next to the window – it acts a little like a looking glass, because of the view you can spy through it. 

Spend lazy days taking the steps down to the rocky, One Fire Beach or sitting in a bar nearby. Visit the boutiques in the narrow alleys of Positano and admire the  buildings as they’re cast in golden sunlight. Sample authentic cuisine from the many restaurants and when you return home, put your feet up for some well deserved R&R.

This villa caught our eye for its impressive cliffside location, overlooking the Amalfi Coast. Built on three levels, there’s an independent tower on the roof terrace that houses two of the bedrooms, a bathroom and a private balcony. While the tower is more simply furnished than the main house, it gives those staying there privacy. Breakfast is included here for your entire stay, so you can enjoy a leisurely start to the day before relaxing by the pool or sightseeing. And with the popular towns of Positano and Amalfi within easy driving distance, there’s lots to see and do.

When evening falls and temperatures cool, head to the kitchen or charcoal barbecue to try your hand at cooking some local dishes  – the fish market is the best spot to pick up some fresh seafood. The only place to tuck into an authentic Italian dinner is out on the terrace, over a bottle of wine as the sun descends over the water.
