Dine together at the table that’s ideally located right next to the window – it acts a little like a looking glass, because of the view you can spy through it. 

Spend lazy days taking the steps down to the rocky, One Fire Beach or sitting in a bar nearby. Visit the boutiques in the narrow alleys of Positano and admire the  buildings as they’re cast in golden sunlight. Sample authentic cuisine from the many restaurants and when you return home, put your feet up for some well deserved R&R.

Climb the steps up towards the villa and find a modern and comfortable home that boasts plenty of natural light, a crisp colour palette, and a beautiful collection of carefully selected tiles for a bit of a colour pop. There’s also a boho feel thanks to the warm, woody furniture and ample windows that keep that connection to the outdoors firmly in place. 

Go from your bedroom into the garden in moments as you escape through the doors – if you’re on the first floor, you’ll have an entire balcony to yourself and we recommend waking up before dawn, at least once, so you can watch the sunset from up there. The home itself is understated in the best possible way. Devoid of any over-the-top or flashy fixtures and fittings, it exudes an easy charm that's perfectly in keeping with its surroundings and the archetypal aesthetics of this part of Italy. Think terracotta tiles, majolica bathrooms, exposed stone and wood beam detailing, and expert placement of fine antiques alongside simpler modern pieces that fulfil a function, and ornate wrought iron balustrades. 

The first of the two apartments, sleeping up to four people in the double bed and on the sofabed in the living area, a fully-equipped kitchen with a spellbinding sea view, and two bathrooms (one en-suite and one separate). While the tower is more simply furnished than the main house, it gives those staying there privacy. Breakfast is included here for your entire stay, so you can enjoy a leisurely start to the day before relaxing by the pool or sightseeing. And with the popular towns of Positano and Amalfi within easy driving distance, there’s lots to see and do.

Perched on a hill above the famous church of San Gennaro on a walkway known as the 'Path of the Gods' the apartment overlooks the pretty town of Praiano, with views of Positano and the glamourous island of Capri in the distance. The centre of Praiano (one of those towns emblematic of this region that clings implausibly to hillsides plunging dramatically into the deep blue waters below) is reachable by means of a set of around 60 stairs, at a distance of around 200 metres. There, not only will you find bags of typical Italian charm, but a wealth of lovely cafés where you can watch the world go by with an aromatic cup of energising espresso, authentic trattoria serving out-of-this-world pasta, seafood, and meat dishes accompanied by freshly grilled vegetables, and higher-end restaurants with panoramic sea views. 

As for the apartment itself? It feels traditional, without feeling dated – seamlessly stitching together fine pieces of antique furniture, with clean-cut modern and functional items, whilst tile flooring and the occasional wooden beam act as a nod to a bygone era. We especially love the exposed stone detailing on the archway in the bedroom area. Halfway between Positano and Amalfi, this home boasts a remarkable setting. It sits on the coastline, high above the sea, so you can admire far-reaching sea views from almost every angle. The garden is spread over several levels, with sun loungers and a small above-ground pool on a lawn, and a vast terrace with an outdoor kitchen, covered alfresco dining space, and room to sunbathe. Inside, you’ll find the blue tiled floors and whitewashed walls typical of the region. At full occupancy, one guest will sleep on a sofa bed in the living space – they might miss out on lie-ins, but we think the setting makes up for it.

Nestled into the hillside with far-reaching sea views, it’s not hard to see why this villa in Praiano caught our eye. Sure, its traditional style may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s a perfect base for families on an Italian stay. One bedroom is situated on the mezzanine level and has a king-size and single bed, so while it lacks a little privacy, it’s ideal for a couple with a child. Elsewhere, there’s plenty of space to spread out here, and the cherry on the cake for us is the outdoor space. Sun-kissed terraces, alfresco dining spots and a private pool, what better way to relax?

Views don't get much better than this. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the islands of Li Galli, this home is an idyllic backdrop for an Amalfi Coast getaway. The terrace makes a prime spot for alfresco meals and sunset cocktails, all framed by the panoramic scenery. Elsewhere in the garden, you'll find a private pool and a hot tub. The interiors are a tad traditional, but with seven bedrooms, the whole brood can spread out comfortably. When you're ready to venture out, Praiano is a short walk away. Or, head further afield to Positano, Amalfi, or Sorrento – a bus running along the coast is just 120 metres away.

There are lots of stairs to climb here, including a spiral staircase in the home, steep steps in the terraced garden, and steps to the private beach, so it won’t suit everyone. Location-wise, you’re in the pretty village of Conca dei Marini with many picturesque coastal towns, including popular Amalfi, within easy driving distance.

The terrace is impressive, too – covered to provide some shade from the sun, it features stunning views as well as dining and lounging areas where you can sit with a sundowner in hand and take it all in.

A Palace in Positano

Peering over the Amalfi Coast, this postcard-worthy villa is the perfect Positano escape. With three terraces to choose from, you’ll start your day deliberating where to take breakfast – will it be at the bistro set under the magenta sprays of bougainvillaea or perhaps you’ll dine in the shade by the abundant lemon tree? Afternoons are for doing very little – lazing on a lounger with an ice-cold drink in hand, watching the boats bob on the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea. 

Inside, there’s a minimalist yet lively approach to the living space. Yellow patterned tiles are a counterpoint to the pristine white walls and we loved the homely feel of the antique cherry wood furniture. The bedrooms are comfortable and cheery and the brightly coloured bathrooms are sure to put a pep in your step in the mornings. 

When you’re ready to explore, Positano Beach is just a short walk from your doorstep and you’re within touching distance of restaurants, bars and independent shops. After a slap-up seafood dinner by the water, return to your abode to watch the sky swirl in pinks and purples as you sip an Aperol spritz.
