Completely overhauled in 2021, your hosts have paid close attention to every detail to create an island escape that speaks to the soul. Hand-picked artwork, a well-equipped compact kitchen and two king-size en-suite bedrooms make this an ideal option for a family break, or a getaway with friends.

However, it's the outdoor terrace that steals the limelight. Shared between the apartment's two suites, there's more than enough space for everyone to spread out and claim a corner for themselves. With outdoor dining space, sun loungers and parasols, the scene is set for relaxing alfresco breakfasts, lazy days soaking up some sun, and romantic evening meals with the harbour lights twinkling away below.

Capri Town is only accessible on foot, with plenty of upmarket boutiques and mouthwatering restaurants within a short stroll. For an entirely different perspective on island life, we'd recommend taking to the water for a gentle cruise along its coast, passing secluded coves and the yawning mouths of sea caves.

Designed with rest and relaxation in mind, this villa is ideal for a family or group of friends seeking an easygoing stay. The outside space is the highlight – we loved the plunge pool, barbecue area for long, lazy dinners and views of Capri town and the Tyrrhenian Sea. While the interior design may read as dated to some, we think it’s unfussy, and although the kitchen is better suited to light bites, there is a fantastic selection of restaurants a short drive away. In the heart of Capri, this villa is a mere three-minute walk from the town’s Piazzetta and the funicular for a stunning view of the islands. While the interior feels grandly old-world with tiled floors keeping things naturally cool, it’s the outside space that is the real highlight. This apartment is a real gem. It's well-placed to explore Capri's landmarks – the Gardens of Augustus and Krupp Street are both easily reached on foot – and you'll find plenty of restaurants and boutiques nearby, too. It's on the smaller side, but it's a great size for two and the artwork is quintessentially Italian. The bedroom is on the mezzanine, so there's a separate space to snuggle up after sightseeing, but the kitchenette is compact so dining out might be a good idea. For a romantic trip to one of Italy's most famous islands, this is an excellent choice.

This charming Italian villa is nestled on a pedestrian-only street on the coast of Capri. Although it's dated in terms of decor, we love the location of this home –  it's minutes away from the small but fashionable Piazzetta and boasts wonderful views across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Evenings spent dining on the private terrace go some way towards making up for the basic interiors of this property. Like a lot of places on this island, it can only be reached via a long flight of stairs – so may not be suitable for individuals with reduced mobility. We also strongly suggest booking a porter service in advance, to help carry your luggage to and from the villa.

Perfect for groups seeking a restful getaway, you'll find sea-facing terraces and a seasonal pool here. The outdoor gym and bike storage are great bonuses for the daytime. In the evening, a piano and a whirlpool bathtub await indoors. Although with two guests on the sofa bed, you may feel short on space. Fancy sightseeing? There's a bus station a few minutes away, plus free private parking if you're planning family road trips.

Right by the coast, this cosy apartment is perfect for a couple's retreat. The bathtub in the living area takes some getting used to, but you can't deny that its panoramas are fantastic, especially the glimpse of Capri. In fact, the vistas from every room are stunning, though we think the small balcony takes the cake for the best viewpoint. After all, nothing beats a glass of wine, some fresh air, and a seaside sunset. Ready to explore? Make the short drive to Sorrento or venture 200 metres to the nearby rocky beach.

Take a seat on the scenic rooftop terrace and look out over the tree-covered hillside that plunges down to the sea, where pleasure craft and colourful fishing boats bob in Marina della Lobra. 

This charming two-storey apartment makes the most of its seaside spot with an upside-down layout – bedrooms on the entrance level, and an open kitchen and living area on the first floor, leading out onto that show-stealing terrace. Floor-to-ceiling doors fold back to allow easy access to the outdoors, where you can soak up the sun on the rattan-style seating, pop the umbrella up for some respite from the midday sun, or barbecue a banquet for the whole party on the grill. 

White and blue dominate the decor throughout, reflecting the azure hues of the sea and sky, plus the occasional passing cloud. The main bedroom also boasts its own private balcony that opens out onto fragrant lemon and olive trees that are used to create all manner of sumptuous local products.

During the summer months, boat trips depart from the marina to explore the breathtaking natural and manmade beauty of the Lubrense coast, the enticing island of Capri and the sheer cliffs of Amalfi. While there might not be a beach to speak of, the rocky shore makes for a great base for cooling swims in these protected waters. Alternatively, hop in the car for a short drive to any one of several sun-lounger-lined beaches nearby, or continue along winding coastal roads to the breathtaking towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.

There's realistically only one thing we can start with when talking about this home and that's the gorgeous view of the Gulf of Naples that lies out of the main living area's huge window. Thankfully, these French doors open wide and the balcony lets you take in the coastal panorama with the sunlight on your skin. If you're still in need of another vantage point, guests also get access to a communal roof terrace with some seating on which to clink glasses while the sun sets in the background.

Right, enough about the scenery, because the apartment itself deserves some praise. There's an elegant simplicity to the design, with the whitewashed walls working well with the ample amounts of natural light, plus a minimalist kitchen ready and waiting for Italian feasts. We also like the ceramics collection arranged in alcoves in the hallways, which pay homage to the region's culture and heritage in chic fashion.

As you can tell by looking out the window, you don't have to venture far to find the beach – as a matter of fact, Spiaggia di San Montano is only 200 metres away. There are a few bars and restaurants in the local area, but for a wider choice along with some magnificent historic architecture, Sorrento is just a short drive away up the coastline.
