Wow, were the words we uttered when we walked into the living room of this home and saw the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and River Arno. The vistas are even better from the balcony – it's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and the Florentine skyline. Housed in a beautiful building, this recently renovated, elegant apartment is a lovely place to spend time in with its designer sofa, marble fireplace and gorgeous herringbone patterned wood floors.

If you want to explore what you can see from this home, it's around a thirty-second stroll to Ponte Vecchio, while the Uffizi Gallery is a four-minute walk. It's the same walking distance to Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments. Other attractions nearby include the Strozzi Palace, which is eight minutes on foot. It sits along a steep, cobbled street in the heart of Florence's historic centre and boasts proximity to all the main sights on foot. You couldn't ask for a better location, less than a twenty-minute stroll from the Duomo and the famous Piazzale Michelangelo viewpoint and even closer to the Pitti Palace's museums and gardens. 

The interior is warm and inviting, striking the perfect balance between authentic charm and contemporary comfort. We especially love the open-plan living space, primed for relaxation with a compact yet equipped kitchen, a large dining table, a cosy lounge and a majestic fireplace. Perched on the second floor, it feels delightfully peaceful despite its central location and offers beautiful views from its large shuttered windows. If you love traditional features, this is the home for you – expect terracotta floors, wooden ceilings, a Renaissance courtyard steeped in history, and, of course, large windows that frame the Florentine skyline. Granted, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is compact, and there are quite a lot of stairs. Still, with vistas as good as this and an impeccable location, we think that's a worthwhile compromise.

In an enviable location directly on the River Arno, this home offers ample space and stunning views. We think it’d be very well suited to groups of friends or families, as it has a great social space but individual guests can still have their privacy. You can imagine the main area being used for hosting dinner parties, or just for relaxing on the sofa after a day of exploring. We thought the bathrooms were a little on the small side, but in a home this beautiful in this location, we can look past that.

You also get glimpses of the cathedral from the living room (which also sleeps guests seven and eight on a sofa bed). One bedroom is on a mezzanine, the second overlooks the same views while the third has a courtyard outlook. Located in the heart of the vibrant Santo Spirito district, you’ll be just a few steps from the square and the Boboli Gardens, while Florence Cathedral is within walking distance.

You’ll be in an incredible location, between the iconic Ponte Vecchio and  Ponte Santa Trinita – you can admire the four seasons statues from the living room windows. This home comprises two suites with bedrooms at mezzanine level above the living spaces, and a third bedroom. There’s plenty of space – you can unwind here in between exploring Florence.

Nestled in the heart of Florence’s historical centre, you’ll find bars, restaurants, and shops aplenty on the doorstep, as well as the city’s oldest market. And with Duomo di Firenze, Boboli Gardens, and Ponte Vecchio all within walking distance, you won’t have to venture far to explore they city’s must-sees. We love the traditional features in this home but the bedroom doesn’t have a door so privacy here is limited. It’s also worth noting that it’s on the third floor, without a lift. If climbing sixty-five steps to the front door isn’t a deal-breaker, we think this place is a great find for a couple or solo traveller seeking a central spot.

 The Pillars of Florence

It’s hard to beat the location of this apartment, which is in the heart of Florence. The city’s main square, Piazza della Signoria, is just moments away, and you’ll also be a short walk from landmarks like Florence Cathedral (also known as the Duomo) and the Uffizi Galleries (an art-lover’s dream). With its high ceilings and wooden beams, this two-bedroom apartment blends character and comfort. There's a kitchen for cooking at home, however with so many restaurants right nearby, you can take a break from cooking if you prefer. It makes a great base for exploring – just remember to pack a comfortable pair of sightseeing shoes.

Bright and homely, this charming Florentine apartment is perfect for couples or a small family on a getaway in the city. There’s no lift here, as expected in a beautiful Liberty-style building, so you’ll need to climb stairs to reach the home. Still, it’s a small price to pay for the location. We love the second bedroom, accessed via a spiral staircase and oozing tranquillity – just watch your head on those sloping ceilings and beams. And when you’re ready to explore, many major sightseeing spots are within walking distance, while the Belfiore tram stop is nearby for jaunts further afield.

This sprawling apartment was once a Florentine palace and monastery dating back to 1880. Stylish and practical in equal measure, we love the large living area, which boasts charming traditional details, sky-high ceilings, and gorgeous artwork. It's not just all character here, though – the sleek kitchen has everything you need for meal prep, while the main bathroom boasts a soaker tub ideal for unwinding. But it's the location that really stands out. You're a short stroll away from all Florence has to offer. We're talking 300 metres from San Marco Square, 500 metres from the Accademia Gallery, and 800 metres from the famous Duomo.

The Impressionist's Pad 

This apartment offers a relaxed and easy stay in the historic heart of Florence. Nestled inside a Palazzo dating back to 1500, you’ll be welcomed by a wonderful sense of character. There’s also private terrace for evening drinks, while the rooms are perfect for families with the handy addition of a sofa bed in the living room. It’s worth noting you can hear street noise from one of the bedrooms, but we think the location more than makes up for it. Located on the first floor, this one-bedroom apartment is bright and bold, with plenty of light and vibrant colours injecting personality into the interior. Its location is similarly dramatic – it’s just a few steps from the Arno River, and close to the Palazzo Pitti too, where the famous Medici family lived in luxury centuries ago.

The Palazzo Next Door

Apex has so many things going for it that focussing on the specifics seems unfair. Needless to say that everything in the flat is of the highest quality, whether that’s the carrara marble in the bathroom, or the four-poster bed. In fact it’s the bedrooms (or three of them anyway) that make the biggest impression. They’re what you might imagine from a seventeenth-century noble mansion, and while obviously all these things are personal preferences, they make for a seriously good night’s sleep.

What an outstanding location this fabulous home has in Florence – it's less than a minute's stroll from the medieval splendour of Ponte Vecchio. The magnificent Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, is a five-minute stroll away – a good time to visit is at sunset when the façade turns a pink hue. It's the same walking distance to the Uffizi Gallery in the historical centre of Florence. The wonderful markets at Piazza Santo Spirito, on the other hand, are a six-minute saunter – perfect for a morning browse. Of course, as you'd expect from one of the city's most desirable areas – there are plenty of fine restaurants right on your doorstep, as well as a couple of artisan wine shops. Enjoy some cantuccini dipped in vin santo on the gorgeous, large balcony or create some tagliatelle funghi porcini e tartufo from local truffles for dinner in the open-plan kitchen and enjoy at your dining table. We love the vintage prints that adorn the walls here, as well as the French doors with their views over the neighbourhood. After a busy day of sightseeing, have a soak in the bathtub and then get some rest in the serene bedrooms before another day in beguiling Florence.

But it doesn't just tick the box on a central location, it also has all the modern charm to make a family stay comfortable. Though little ones might need supervision on the stairs up to the loft the rest of the home is all on the same level. Upstairs is where you'll find the laptop-friendly workspace and a breakout zone teens might enjoy. It could do with a little more natural light to highlight the exposed beams, but it's still cosy and well-kept.

Stroll through the cobbled streets, passing through the shop-lined Ponte Vecchio and across the river to marvel at Centro Storico's array of medieval churches and cathedrals, including the red-tiled Duomo, thirteen minutes from your doorstep on foot.

What a Pitti

In the heart of Florence, this apartment puts you within walking distance of the city's many famous landmarks. Among them are the Duomo (ten minutes on foot), Uffizi Gallery (a fifteen-minute walk) and Ponte Vecchio (also reachable in fifteen minutes) – not to mention a bevvy of shops and restaurants. Due to its ground-floor position, there's little natural light here. But we can overlook that since there's something better – a private courtyard garden. Outdoor space is rare in this postcode, making it the perfect spot for post-sightseeing aperitifs. As the living area has a sofa bed, we recommend this pad for short trips, especially if you're a group of six.

Florence Belle

Unsurprisingly, we’re going to start by talking about the view. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the living space look directly out onto the River Arno and the famous Ponte Vecchio – an outstanding feat of engineering from Europe’s Middle Ages. You’re that close, you can hear the water rushing underneath the stone from your private balcony. The interiors are modest but comfortable and do well not to distract you from the fantastic vistas. Set up a traditional Italian breakfast at the dining table and watch daybreak over the water, then finish your coffee on the comfy couch as you put the finishing touches to your Florentine checklist. Take the short, ten-minute stroll across the bridge to the heart of the city where the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Bargello National Museum are an afternoon well spent. Enjoy a pit stop in the bustling Piazza della Repubblica before continuing on to the Accademia Gallery, the proud home of Michelangelo’s David.
