But when it's time to leave the crowds of the Duomo behind, head to the Boboli Gardens – a hidden green retreat in the city. Or dive into one of the countless trattorias and happening bars nestled in the streets of Oltrarno to experience authentic local life.

Back home, this small but perfectly formed home feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after days of gallivanting about the ancient city's streets. Getting together for drinks and nibbles is a joy at the cosy dining table with views of the emblematic terracotta rooftops outside. Outside, you’ll find Oltrarno is brimming with bars, cafes and artisanal shops, as well as the iconic frescoes of Brancacci Chapel, and the Ornate fountains at the Gallery of Modern Art. 

The Raffaella Rose

Stay in the heart of the historic city centre at this home in Florence. It's just a four-minute stroll to Cappella Brancacci and  the stunning Rucellai Palace is ten minutes on foot. On the other hand, Strozzi Palace, Palazzo Pitti and the Ponte Vecchio are all around a fourteen-minute amble. Under a twenty-minute saunter will take you to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the Uffizi Gallery, while the French and American Consulates are both a seven-minute walk as well.

When it comes to sightseeing nearby, you've got plenty from which to choose with the Pitti Palace and Ponte Vecchio both a ten-minute walk away, Piazza Santo Spirito an eight-minute stroll and Giardino Torrigiani seven minutes away on foot. You’re also a fourteen-minute walk from the Uffizi Gallery – across the River Arno – while the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is sixteen minutes on foot from your door.

There are traditional details, like the ceiling beams and exposed wood doorframes, but the owner has added plenty of modern touches too. If you need to catch up on work, there's a gorgeous antique desk where you can use your laptop. And, budding chefs can practice their favourite Italian dishes in the smart kitchen, before serving their culinary creations at the glass dining table. 

If you'd prefer to eat out, then there are plenty of options in the surrounding streets, serving Tuscan classics in family-run restaurants. Art lovers will be delighted that the world-famous Uffizi Gallery is just a twelve-minute stroll away, and you can wander over to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in fifteen minutes. The Palazzo Pitti is close too – a nine-minute walk will bring you to the palace and the stunning Boboli Gardens behind it. 

Fabulous In Florence

With a great location in the hip Santo Spirito district, this two-storey Florence home is ideal for travellers who want the best local vibes. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and lots of the city's most famous attractions are within walking distance. Back at home, there are several outdoor spaces if you want to enjoy the sun, though neither stands out – especially as there are several parks in the area. And while the home's style isn't going to win a design award, there's everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The timber ceiling beams in the living space add a rustic charm and we loved the contrasting lime green and mocha brown colour scheme. Wake up refreshed and well-rested in the floral print bedroom before rustling up breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen. 

When you’re not kicking back with a good book on the sofa, head out and explore your surroundings. Pore over the elaborate frescos in the Cappella Brancacci, just a two-minute walk away. Or why not cross the Ponte alla Carraia into the heart of the city for the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fior and the bustling Piazza della Repubblica – an excellent spot to people watch with a coffee in hand.
