Wow, were the words we uttered when we walked into the living room of this home and saw the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and River Arno. The vistas are even better from the balcony – it's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and the Florentine skyline. Housed in a beautiful building, this recently renovated, elegant apartment is a lovely place to spend time in with its designer sofa, marble fireplace and gorgeous herringbone patterned wood floors.

If you want to explore what you can see from this home, it's around a thirty-second stroll to Ponte Vecchio, while the Uffizi Gallery is a four-minute walk. It's the same walking distance to Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments. Other attractions nearby include the Strozzi Palace, which is eight minutes on foot. This home is ideal for two couples, a group of friends or a family wanting to be within walking distance of this glorious city's treasures.

We were particularly fond of the Venetian plaster walls and the king-size bed dating back to the 1800s. 

Mornings begin with breakfast in the rustic kitchen before curling up on the armchair with a book pulled from the shelves and a cup of milky coffee. If the weather is fair, head out onto your private terrace and bask in the golden sunshine. 

When you’re keen to explore a little, take the ten-minute wander to the iconic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, followed by a stroll along the River Arno. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, stop by one of the many eateries that surround your home (the gelateria on Via dei Neri is a must for afters.)

Found in a 17th-century building only minutes from the Ponte alle Grazie, this modern apartment has some of the best landmarks nearby. Both Palazzo Vecchio and the Basilica of Santa Croce can be found on foot, but the location isn't all this home has to offer. The sleek kitchen is where you can put newly acquired pasta-making skills to use. You'll also find a wine fridge here for stocking the perfect vintage. Apex has so many things going for it that focussing on the specifics seems unfair. Needless to say that everything in the flat is of the highest quality, whether that’s the carrara marble in the bathroom, or the four-poster bed. In fact it’s the bedrooms (or three of them anyway) that make the biggest impression. They’re what you might imagine from a seventeenth-century noble mansion, and while obviously all these things are personal preferences, they make for a seriously good night’s sleep.

Guests here have access to a big courtyard garden, furnished for evening drinks or meals outside and with a solarium should the weather turn. In the centre of Florence, this apartment is footsteps from the Ponte Vecchio and it’s a short stroll to the world-famous Uffizi Gallery.

Factor in the pair of showers – one of which is a luxurious rainfall – and you’ve got everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty of restaurants, bars and shops to explore right on your front door, while beautiful Piazza della Signoria is a one-minute walk away. You’re also just a five-minute walk from Ponte Vecchio, while Strozzi Palace is four minutes away on foot.

And you won't be short of places to enjoy it from – there’s not one but three balconies where you can sit back and savour this unbeatable location. Inside, the rooms are just as appealing with plenty of chill-out space, a sound system, air conditioning and an array of stylish amenities. Outside, a quick stroll takes you to the Uffizi, Palazzo Pitti and the Boboli Gardens. There’s also a supermarket nearby and lots of choice when it comes to local restaurants, cafes and bars.

Florentine Renaissance

Around the corner from Ponte Santa Trinità, Chimney Sweep is in a great location for seeing the centre of Florence. Despite being set over three levels, it’s quite small, but while the kitchen is a little underwhelming, the rest of the house feels pleasantly cosy. Unusually, one of our favourite parts of the home is the single room. What used to be an enormous stone fireplace has been converted into a writing nook, and it feels like a wonderful place to set up shop with a laptop and get to work on your novel.

This apartment is housed in a Renaissance tower in the heart of Florence, just 50 metres from Piazza della Signoria. The apartment is simple in style, comfortable without being fussy. There's space to gather together in the open-plan living space and kitchen, though with so many restaurants nearby, you won't need to cook unless you really want to. The central location is the star of the show here, putting you within walking distance of the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery, as well as boutiques and gelaterias. 

Florentine Modern

This apartment is on the third floor of a historically important palazzo in Florence. It’s perfectly located for exploring the city, with most of the main attractions a ten-fifteen-minute walk away, including Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi. The Basilica of Santa Croce is a few steps away, and the apartment boasts spectacular views of Florentine rooftops. The apartment is full of historic charm – we love the frescoed ceilings – and has plenty of space for all twelve guests to spend time together.

Sitting pretty near the banks of the River Arno, this top-floor apartment enjoys spellbinding views over Florence. You can soak them up from whichever terrace takes your fancy – there are two to choose from here – but there’s only enough space for a couple of people on each, so make sure to choose your cocktail companion wisely. Inside, though, there’s plenty of space to get together as a group with sofa beds offering flexible sleeping arrangements. There’s a dedicated desk in the study too – perfect for writing your postcards back home, or if you really must, catching up on work.

Just footsteps from the shop-lined medieval Ponte Vecchio Bridge, this apartment sits on the banks of the River Arno. If you’re not visiting the riverside restaurants or ancient jewellery shops of the bridge on your doorstep, make the two-minute walk to the Ufizzi Gallery to discover the world-famous Renaissance art inside. 

Inside, it’s a modern haven of calm, despite the super central location. Wooden floors complement pristine white walls in the open-plan living area. Sun-filled breakfasts can be taken at the dining table by the big window and the kitchen is tucked away in a separate room with an additional dining table. The little terracotta-tiled balcony is a real bonus, with its bistro table set looking out over the internal courtyard.

This apartment caught our eye with its central location and private roof terrace – a rare treat in the heart of Florence. It’s also family-friendly with plenty of socialising space across the open plan living and dining room. With three comfortable bedrooms, this is a sweet option for groups in search of practicality and ease in a great setting. From here, it’s just a two-minute stroll to Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. Plus, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to restaurants, bars and shops. 

The Lady Florence

Character, charm and a fantastic location – this apartment welcomes you to enjoy it all from the heart of Florence. There are a few steps to climb to reach the entrance but once inside you’ll find it easy to settle in and unwind. There’s a piano for music lovers and a desk for remote workers. If you’re travelling as a group of five, it’s worth noting two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed but this is a handy option for families travelling with kids. Outside, it’s just a short stroll to Via Tornabuoni, Piazza Santa Trinita and the Duomo.

Your living quarters aren't quite as old, but there are a couple of more traditional features – including, look up, the patterned ceiling. A recent renovation has tastefully incorporated more contemporary aspects into the interior design and 21st-century travellers will find nothing to sniff at, especially when the fantastic central location is taken into consideration.

We adore this chic home's stunning terrace with its wonderful view of the Duomo di Firenze (Florence Cathedral) and many of the city's famous sights. It's a huge space, nestled in among the rooftops and drenched in sun. As the sun goes down, it's the perfect place to eat some local produce and sample some Tuscan wine. We also really love the living room style – its simplicity defined, with pale colours and a clear influence from Scandinavian design. Located in the heart of Florence's luxury shopping district, Via dè Tornabuoni is just a three-minute stroll away. This neighbourhood is also known for its array of Florentine restaurants, cafes and bakeries. If you want to visit the Duomo, it's a four-minute wander, while the medieval Ponte Vecchio is an eight-minute saunter. For art lovers, the Uffizi Gallery is just over ten minutes on foot. Whatever you decide to do – make sure you bring comfy shoes – there's so much to see nearby.
