We especially love the open-plan living space, primed for relaxation with a compact yet equipped kitchen, a large dining table, a cosy lounge and a majestic fireplace. When we came across this quaint apartment, we did a double-take. While it may be a bit old-school in style, it has lots of charm for a city stay. Set on the third floor, with a private balcony overlooking the rooftops of Florence, there's no lack of character here – that being said, it may feel a little dated in parts. And, while the bedrooms are semi-open, limiting privacy, its location in the historic district makes it a good choice for those keen to be close to the action.

The home itself has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including a small private garden – a rare find in the city centre. You’ll also have access to a sauna here, which is shared with the building’s other residents. At full capacity, two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed on a mezzanine level, so that set up might not suit everyone. But if it isn’t a deal-breaker, we think this place is a great choice anyone wanting to be at the heart of Florence.

Found in a 17th-century building only minutes from the Ponte alle Grazie, this modern apartment has some of the best landmarks nearby. Both Palazzo Vecchio and the Basilica of Santa Croce can be found on foot, but the location isn't all this home has to offer. The sleek kitchen is where you can put newly acquired pasta-making skills to use. You'll also find a wine fridge here for stocking the perfect vintage. There's plenty of space, even with four guests sleeping on sofa beds. And the courtyard seating with a vertical garden is a really nice added bonus, especially for sunset drinks.

Delivering knockout vistas of Florence's rooftops and the mighty Duomo from nearly every room, we've fallen hard for this central bolthole. Each light-filled bedroom is as elegant as the next, though they are short on floor and storage space, so we recommend packing lightly. It's also worth noting at full occupancy, it could be a squeeze to all kick back on the sofa, and while the kitchen is well-equipped, it's short on prepping space. It's the perfect excuse to eat out instead, and luckily, you're an olive stone's throw from countless traditional trattorias for all the Tuscan classics.

We think it’d be very well suited to groups of friends or families, as it has a great social space but individual guests can still have their privacy. We thought the bathrooms were a little on the small side, but in a home this beautiful in this location, we can look past that.

Set within an eye-catching period building, complete with imposing wooden double doors, along the rather lovely Via dei Servi, which connects the Piazza del Duomo and the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. 

This narrow street is lined with a wide array of shops, charming cafes, and traditional restaurants, which should be your first port of call when you get the urge to head out and explore the city. For a closer look at the duomo, you need only walk a couple of minutes to the bustling piazza that surrounds it. Wandering a little over 100m in the opposite direction will lead to the fascinating Leonardo da Vinci Museum, which is filled with life-sized machines based on his many sketches. 

For more Renaissance creations, the iconic Uffizi Gallery lies around 700m to the south – well within walking distance. We'd recommend a leisurely riverside stroll along the River Arno afterwards, or if you're feeling active, head out on a stand-up paddleboarding expedition downriver.

What an outstanding location this fabulous home has in Florence – it's less than a minute's stroll from the medieval splendour of Ponte Vecchio. The magnificent Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, is a five-minute stroll away – a good time to visit is at sunset when the façade turns a pink hue. It's the same walking distance to the Uffizi Gallery in the historical centre of Florence. The wonderful markets at Piazza Santo Spirito, on the other hand, are a six-minute saunter – perfect for a morning browse. Of course, as you'd expect from one of the city's most desirable areas – there are plenty of fine restaurants right on your doorstep, as well as a couple of artisan wine shops. Enjoy some cantuccini dipped in vin santo on the gorgeous, large balcony or create some tagliatelle funghi porcini e tartufo from local truffles for dinner in the open-plan kitchen and enjoy at your dining table. We love the vintage prints that adorn the walls here, as well as the French doors with their views over the neighbourhood. After a busy day of sightseeing, have a soak in the bathtub and then get some rest in the serene bedrooms before another day in beguiling Florence.

Focal Length

You couldn’t dream up a better location for this central Florence apartment. All the must-sees, including Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, and the Duomo, are footsteps away. The iconic river is also around the corner to join the locals in their favourite evening pastime – passeggiatas. Set in a historic Florentine villa of grand proportions, while the arched ceilings remain, everything else has been brought bang up to date. Both bedrooms have private bathrooms, and air conditioning is throughout. One thing to point out here – if six of you stay, the last two guests will share a sofa bed in the living room. But for a home with such an unbeatable location, we think it’s worth the compromise.

Located in a 19th-century building next to Piazza d'Azeglio, this apartment is a great option for an inspiring Italian adventure. Outside, you can stroll to Santa Croce in just ten minutes, and you’ll find the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio are less than a twenty-minute walk away. Back at home, you can relax with aperitifs on the private patio. It’s worth noting the living room and kitchen are small and groups of six may find it a bit of a squeeze. That being said, it’s ideal for families and couples looking for comfort and simplicity in a central location.

Wow, were the words we uttered when we walked into the living room of this home and saw the stunning views of the Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery and River Arno.
