The design here is clean, modern, and comfortable, but because it’s run by a management company it does lack a bit of character. We won’t hold that against Blue Heron though, because you’ll find it in the very heart of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the Duomo. Better yet, this street is quiet and surprisingly uncrowded given its proximity to Florence’s biggest tourist attraction. There’s even a charming balcony that looks the courtyard – a perfect spot for an espresso or a glass of wine.

That being said, a recent renovation means that the furnishings and fittings have moved on a bit since Renaissance times. The sleek grey kitchen with an island is contemporary design at its sleekest, while the grey bathroom is equally smart.

It should also be mentioned that the location is nothing short of superb. Many of the city's most famous galleries — including Accademia, San Marco and the National Archaeological Museum — can be reached in around ten minutes' walk, while the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore takes a quarter of an hour.

This elegant apartment is the perfect place to stay in Florence. It’s stylish yet comfortable, housed in a stately building just outside of the historic centre of the city. The apartment has been recently renovated – it’s a beautiful home from home with a grandeur that’s fitting for a city as stunning as Firenze. 

The vaulted ceilings with frescoes will make you feel as though you’re staying in one of the grand palazzos of days gone by. Huge windows keep the apartment bright and airy, and modern furnishings mean that although it feels historic, everything you need is right at your fingertips.

By inner-city Florence standards, this apartment set over two floors is palatial. There’s a banquet-worthy dining room and a well-equipped Italian-style kitchen. Though, with countless trattorias just a stroll away, we suspect you’ll be eating out a lot. It’s worth noting, at full occupancy, the last two guests will have to make do with a single bed and pull-out bed in the cosy fourth bedroom. Fine for a short stay or children sharing – but it might not float everyone’s boat.

As well as this invitingly cool spot for a dip, guests are also treated to a plant-covered pergola with a table underneath that's sure to be the setting for idyllic alfresco feasts. This outdoor space is a peaceful enclave compared to the busy Florentine streets nearby and is a major perk of the address.

The home itself is typically Tuscan in style and you'll be able to spot several period features, including capitellos on the top of columns, wooden ceiling beams and a rather ornately designed door. There's a real air of palatial glamour to the tall living room, particularly with the marble fireplace and upright piano. In the other spaces, the architect has cleverly made use of the plentiful headroom by adding a mezzanine, which houses many of the beds.

It’s ridiculously grand, with double-height, frescoed ceilings, and antique furniture (along with a few modern, designer additions). It’s just around the corner from Piazza della Libertà, so it’s just away from the most crowded parts of the centre, but even walking to the Ponte Vecchio doesn’t take more than twenty minutes.

Situated in the heart of Florence, with the iconic Ponte Vecchio only a stone’s throw away, this home gives you access to some of the capital’s best sights. See the city’s love of art in renaissance galleries and museums within walking distance, and don’t miss the touristy bits like the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and Piazzale Michelangelo – more of a walk, but worth the views. The home, on the sixth floor with a working elevator – rare in Florence – might not be revolutionary, and the kitchen is small, but it is comfortable, and the view of the river and Duomo is a nice touch.

Set in a historic building, we love this apartment’s view of the River Arno and Florentine architecture from the elegant living room. If you want to do some Italian cooking while you are here, the kitchen, though quite compact, has everything you probably need. Or, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby to enjoy.
