At full occupancy four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds, but there’s plenty of room to relax, unwind and socialise. The infrared sauna is a nice touch too.

Perched in the building's watchtower, it's part of an ancient palace dating back to 1470. If you love traditional features, this is the home for you – expect terracotta floors, wooden ceilings, a Renaissance courtyard steeped in history, and, of course, large windows that frame the Florentine skyline. Granted, there are a few things to note here. The kitchen is compact, and there are quite a lot of stairs. Still, with vistas as good as this and an impeccable location, we think that's a worthwhile compromise.

The magnificent Palazzo Pitti, one of Florence's largest architectural monuments, is a five-minute stroll away – a good time to visit is at sunset when the façade turns a pink hue. It's the same walking distance to the Uffizi Gallery in the historical centre of Florence. Enjoy some cantuccini dipped in vin santo on the gorgeous, large balcony or create some tagliatelle funghi porcini e tartufo from local truffles for dinner in the open-plan kitchen and enjoy at your dining table. We love the vintage prints that adorn the walls here, as well as the French doors with their views over the neighbourhood. If all booked together, they could take as many as sixteen guests at once.

But it’s not just the location that impresses at this home. Housed in a historic palazzo, this home has ample space and is a great option for an extended family or group of friends. That said, it’s worth noting that at full occupancy, there's not enough space to sit out on the charming but small balcony. The last two guests will also sleep on a sofa bed in the lounge. But with those magnificent original frescoes above to admire, we don’t think you’ll mind.
