Whether you're after a peaceful holiday with friends or a spacious spot for a family gathering, this restored farmhouse is an excellent choice. It's situated on a private country estate in the charming village of Lamporecchio, Tuscany, and has well-tended secret gardens, as well as olive groves to explore. This breathtaking property is spread over two floors and benefits from a private patio and communal pool area – the latter of which is shared with four neighbouring properties. We love the master suite with its fireplace – a welcome feature during the cooler months. We suggest a car for ease –  there are restaurants less than 2km away and the pretty town of Montecatini is 15km from the home. 

Tuscan Grove

Many illustrious figures throughout history have made Tuscany what it is today. From Leonardo da Vinci to Galileo, their masterpieces and works have shaped the region, drawing us in with a thirst for exploration and experience. The landscape is dotted with works of art in the form of cities like Florence, and the hillsides are so untainted it’s as if they’ve been captured by an artist on canvas forever. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and we can’t think of a better phrase to describe this home. Windows, doorways and shutters seize the views of Tuscany from every possible angle, providing snapshots of the world outside like moving pictures. There’s a level of luxury in this home which mirrors the stately historical architecture, making you feel as if you’ve stepped into the shoes of Italian society. And what better way to honour those who have come before, than by engaging in the tradition of an aperitivo in the garden before dinner? Saluti.  

Tactile Artistry

Tranquil doesn’t even begin to describe this wonderful apartment. It’s tucked away in the hills above Bagni di Lucca, in a tiny village that’s quiet even in the height of summer. You’ll share the grounds and outdoor pool with four villas, but there’s plenty of space. Stunning views can be admired from almost every angle here, with far-reaching vistas of the surrounding hills and forests. The apartment is rustic in style, with exposed stone walls and terracotta floor tiles. It’s the perfect retreat for a romantic getaway. 

Italian Stone

Deep within the green Ligurian hills behind the famous Cinque Terre (a 35-kilometre drive away), this villa offers an escape from it all. After exploring the surrounding scenery by bike or on foot, you can kick back by the poolside, play games on vast lawns or gather for alfresco feasts on the covered barbecue terrace. This place consists of two separate villas, each with its own open kitchen, living and dining room for social evenings together. The traditional feel of some of the furnishings and bathrooms won’t be for everyone, but the vast, manicured space outside makes up for it. 

Enchanting Bliss

Overlooking the waters of Porto Venere Harbour and just a flip-flop from a small beach, this traditional home is the perfect maritime retreat. You can watch all the nautical action unfold from your bougainvillea-clad balcony. Or take a ten-minute amble along the coast to the village’s history-rich centre – it’s been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site for good reason. While the coastal-themed interiors are charming, they will feel dated for some. The bedroom layouts are a little quirky, too, with the main bedroom sleeping three and the final single bed tucked away in the hallway. But we can let that slide for a home with such a one-of-a-kind setting.

Maritime Retreat

Set on an estate dotted with trees, shrubs, and other native foliage, this home ecompasses the entire first floor of an ancient villa in Orentano. Despite sharing things like the pool, tennis court, and soccer field with another home, there is enough room on the property for it to still feel private. That’s probably helped along by the fact that you have your own private garden and barbecue – not to mention the sheer size of the home itself. Move easily between rooms and use the easy go-between as an excuse to nip into the kitchen for another cup of coffee and a dozen more biscotti to take back to where you’re reading on the plush sofa. Take the spiral staircase up to the loft where you’ll find the rustic bedrooms and bathrooms for when you’re ready to turn in at night. When you think loft, you might conjure up images of a tight squeeze, but the addition of the skylights in almost every room here allows the light to make the space feel more open. 

With the host and his family living on the estate, you’ll sometimes find yourself around the table enjoying their homemade pasta alfresco with soft music playing in the background. There’s also a brick pizza oven here, so don’t be surprised if you eat more margarita than you’d care to – we know, that is not even remotely possible. 

When you’re not enjoying the home, you can make a trip to Pisa, Voltera, or Florence – each with their unique charm – or borrow the bicycles and simply explore the surroundings on two wheels instead of four. After a day of activity under the Tuscan sun, take a late-night swim in the heated pool, and when you’re ready to return inside, why not linger a little while longer to gaze up at the stars. 

Tuscan Welcome

Cypress trees and olive groves perfume the air around this stunning Tuscan farmhouse, located just a five-minute drive from the village of Pescia. A truly romantic getaway, you’ll fall in love with its blend of rustic charm and elegant decor that seamlessly flows through each room. Food enthusiasts will fall head over heels for the farm-style kitchen, which after a local cooking class, is sure to inspire plenty of feasts. The calming white conservatory is the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee before heading out to the pool for a swim and some sunbathing. With plenty of outdoor seating and stunning views of the lush, green grounds, this secluded spot is an oasis. When the sun starts to set, mix yourself some cocktails to have out on the veranda before sitting down for a lantern-lit alfresco dinner. For truly memorable nights, book a private chef to serve you an Italian banquet, or if a more casual night is on the table, fire up the barbecue. When it’s time for bed, you’ll find a luxurious bed waiting to cradle you into a restful night’s sleep.

Centrally located in Lucca, this charming apartment is within walking distance of the Piazza Saint Michelle, Guinigi Tower, and several other hotspots. You'll find shops and restaurants easily reachable on foot, guaranteeing you'll be able to make the most of this beautiful city. The apartment's age is apparent in its stone walls and high ceilings – while it lacks natural light, it'll stay cool even on the hottest summer days. The furniture is very traditional, but the kitchen is well-equipped for large meals and the main bedroom enjoys its own en-suite. For little ones, your host can provide a free cot and high chair, making it a breeze to stay here as a family.

Lucca's Lure

Set within the city walls, this characterful retreat is within walking distance of Lucca’s main attractions such as the Guinigi Tower and Piazza Anfiteatro. You’ll find cobblestone streets lined with boutiques and vibrant cafes, too. As soon as you step inside this apartment, you’re greeted by a wealth of traditional features such as the beamed ceilings and exposed brick walls, which give this place a cosy feel. Just mind your head in the en-suite if you’re tall as some of the beams are on the low side. Otherwise, this is the ideal Lucca sanctuary – come and see for yourself.

Beyond the Walls

Tucked away in the Ligurian countryside that borders Tuscany, this home will scratch that itch for a rural Italian escape. This rustic villa has gorgeous gardens and a pool that looks out over the Apuan Alps and the surrounding forest, and is in a great spot for hiking and cycling. Though the decor won't be to everyone's taste, with a main house and a separate guest house, it’s an excellent choice for a couple of families looking to holiday together without crowding each other. There’s even a swing and slide, so little ones can tire themselves out while the grown-ups relax.

There's nothing like a private pool to get you into that holiday spirit and at this home in Marina di Pietrasanta, you'll also have the sandy beach just a short walk away. A charming seaside resort with plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy, you'll have local parks to explore, numerous beaches to play on and surrounding villages to seek out – as well as the big attractions of Lucca (around forty minutes by car) and Pisa (around fifty).
