As soon as you approach this lovely home's building, you're greeted with a beautiful pond with a fountain and colourful fish – we felt an air of calm straight away. The garden has an even bigger pond – the shared swimming pool is perfect for cooling off in the Italian heat or simply relax with a book on the lounger.

Inside the apartment, there are characterful exposed beams and terracotta tiled floors. Another stand-out feature of this home is the main bathroom which has Swarovski crystals set in the furniture and on the washbasin – we do love a bit of bling.

Situated a few steps from Spiaggia D'oro and the centre of Desenzano del Garda, it has a fabulous location. If you have kids with you, there's a playground 50 metres away too.

Housed in an elegant building in the Piazza Duomo in Desenzano del Garda, this home has a fabulous setting. The apartment is located just 50 metres from Lake Garda and the many shops, bars and restaurants. It's just 150 metres from one of the lake's sandy beaches too.

Back at this apartment, relax on the balcony off the main bedroom with a glass of wine. Inside, we love the feature ornate fireplace in the open plan living space, but the real highlight here is the beautiful view of the city's cathedral from the main bedroom window (this room also has vibrant botanical wallpaper).

Later, if you don't fancy eating out, rustle up some risotto con la tinca (rice with fish and chard) in the modern kitchen and enjoy the fruits of your labour at your dining table. After a busy day, get ready for bed in the marble-clad bathroom with its large shower and then get some rest.

Wander the streets with a gelato, or call into cafes for coffee and watch the world go by – there’s no need to rush, you’re in Italy after all. The jewel in Padenghe’s crown is undoubtedly the castle; whether you’re a history buff or you’re just in it for the views of Garda, it’s well worth strolling five minutes up the hill to explore. Further afield, beautiful Sirmione is less than ten miles away.

Sharing its outdoor pool with just one other apartment, this modern home sits in large gardens, in a quiet spot overlooking the rolling hills – the blue of Lake Garda just visible across the trees. With lovely lawns, old olive trees and plenty of green all around, it's a comfortable and practical home-from-home. 

Inside, it's a ground floor apartment well suited to family life. Modern in design, its big windows and spacious rooms keep it bright and sociable, with all eyes on the view to the rear. There's a well kitted-out kitchen and a dining table inside, but we think you'll be spending much of your time eating on the covered terrace. 

After breakfast, head to the gated outdoor pool for a morning of swimming and playing on the trampoline, or hop in your car and you'll be by the lakeshore in a little over five minutes. 

From your home, it's a short walk into the village of Soiano del Lago, with its grocery shop and small restaurants, making this the ideal choice for a quiet family holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resorts. Drive to the nearby beaches for fun at the lake, or spend a day at one of the nearby amusement parks – Gardaland is around half an hour's drive away.

If you don’t want to miss the action but crave a little bit more me-time, you can always opt for the separate loft room; it comes with its own personal kitchenette (hello, late-night snacks). The home’s perfectly manicured garden is just steps away from Lake Garda – we can’t think of a set-up more perfect than this.

Overlooking Lake Garda, you'd think meal times at the alfresco dining area couldn't be more scenic, yet uniquely the curved window of the living area frames the view like a piece of artwork hanging on the wall. While the mid-century designs may not suit everybody's tastes, the home's quirky character, uncompromising comfort and serene setting certainly make up for it.

We were especially fond of the atmospheric study and elegant living room, both ideal spots for nightcaps. And despite the seemingly secluded location, you're not far from eateries, cafes, and historical sites here – and you won't want to miss the chance to take a boat trip on the lake.

Set on the banks of Lake Garda, this villa is as close to the water as you can get. And there’s no better place to soak up the views than from the private pool or on the dining terrace. Inside, a family or group of friends have plenty of space to spread out, and the kitchen is well-appointed for those who like to cook. While the bedrooms are comfortable, it’s worth noting there aren’t any bedside tables or reading lights. Keen to explore? The charming town of Lazise is a short drive away.

If you’re looking for ways to keep the little ones entertained, the playground should do the trick, with a swing and slide for them to play on. When it comes to exploring, we’d recommend taking the bikes out for a cycle by the water.

A ten-minute walk from Italy's largest lake, Garda, this villa celebrates the iconic landmark with a terrace and private pool to admire the views. And though the interior can't begin to compete with the beautiful vistas – some might even find some elements dated – the home is comfortable and family-friendly, granting everyone a little privacy by splitting itself into two apartments. Don't worry, though, it's not entirely separate but still connected internally, and with plenty of seating outdoors, there's ample opportunity to socialise. As for location, Salò, with all its restaurants and shops, is only minutes away.
