The first thing that grabs you as soon as you step inside is the view from the living area’s big windows. The vista of red-roofed houses leading to the shores of Lake Garda takes pride of place as if it’s a work of art hanging on the wall. Lightwood floors and white walls keep things feeling bright and the glass dining table sits in a particularly sunny corner, surrounded by windows. There’s plenty of room to prep meals in the open kitchen, thanks to a wooden breakfast bar. A little, unfurnished balcony provides a space to step out and breathe in the fresh, lake air.

Inside, we love the feature ornate fireplace in the open plan living space, but the real highlight here is the beautiful view of the city's cathedral from the main bedroom window (this room also has vibrant botanical wallpaper).

Later, if you don't fancy eating out, rustle up some risotto con la tinca (rice with fish and chard) in the modern kitchen and enjoy the fruits of your labour at your dining table. After a busy day, get ready for bed in the marble-clad bathroom with its large shower and then get some rest.

This charming apartment is one with a long history. The building started out life as a winery in the early 1900s, but given the spectacular location and lake views, the owner decided to make a home out of it. The production of wine continued in the cellar while the owner lived here, and the apartment’s rosé hues pay homage to its wine-entwined past.

Not only is the building impressive for its history, but also its classic touches – the original wrought iron railings and marble stairs remain. As first impressions go, this is a pretty good one. And when stepping inside the home, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a cheerful space, sleek yet homely. A large window takes full advantage of the view – you’ll love tucking into your breakfast around the table with the fresh air billowing in.

When the vista has tempted you enough and it’s time to explore, you’re just steps away from the banks of Lake Garda. A sandy beach is 150 metres away – spread out your candy-striped beach towel, catch up on your book, and take a dip in the refreshing waters. When talks turn to food, you’re in the heart of Desenzano del Garda with excellent restaurants aplenty. For an extra special end to the day, take a trip to the Thermal Springs of Terme di Sirmione – they’re particularly beautiful at dusk and just 5 miles away.

We couldn’t think of a better spot to admire the views across Lake Garda than from the garden of this home. There’s a private pool, a jacuzzi and a perfectly positioned terrace – a sweet setting for sunset drinks. Inside, there are three self-contained apartments, making it the ideal base for groups looking to relax and enjoy quality time together. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just 5 kilometres to the nearest town of Salò where you’ll find the beach along with a great selection of restaurants and shops. 


The Amber Tree

Combining history and culture, the building has been beautifully restored and retains many of its original features. Think fine marble staircases, wrought iron railings and intricately carved window frames – stepping into this home will transport you back in time. The interiors are super homely with pops of sunshine yellow, which perfectly mirrors the exterior.
Open up the French doors and take a seat on the comfy sofa to enjoy your morning coffee and gaze at the spectacular views of the lake. The private balcony looks out over the piazza, and is the perfect place to breathe in some fresh air and watch the world go by. You'll be ideally situated for exploring both the town and the beach, giving you the best of both worlds.

Wander the streets with a gelato, or call into cafes for coffee and watch the world go by – there’s no need to rush, you’re in Italy after all. The jewel in Padenghe’s crown is undoubtedly the castle; whether you’re a history buff or you’re just in it for the views of Garda, it’s well worth strolling five minutes up the hill to explore. Further afield, beautiful Sirmione is less than ten miles away. 

However you spend your stay, make sure you spend at least one evening on the terrace with a glass of something local, watching the sun set slowly over the lake. If you’re anything like us, you’d kick yourself for missing it.
