We think you'll want a car here for getting the most out of your stay, whether it's exploring the shops and fantastic restaurants or parking up and taking a scenic walk by the water.

As soon as you step into the living space, we’re sure you’ll agree that the stark decor and modernist architecture perfectly frames the view of the lake and the island of Comocina available from every window. Run by a local family, everything in this home is geared towards your enjoyment from the luxurious bedding to the fireplace which lights up dark evenings. Relax in the private infinity pool with the scent of jasmine and lavender drifting up from the garden overlooking what is, in our not-so-humble opinion, the best view in the whole region. 

Lakeside Slate

This apartment will be an irresistible option for those in search of impressive views of Lake Como. The central location is equally appealing – making it easy to walk to the nearest beach (Molo di sotto), set sail on boat trips and savour delicious Italian meals in local restaurants. Back at home, you can unwind on the little balcony or in the living room. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed, but this is a great option for families in search of simplicity and comfort. Children’s amenities can be provided and your host can help organise extras like breakfast and housekeeping.

To say the views of Lake Como seen from this apartment are remarkable is an understatement. It’s a panorama best admired from the private wraparound balcony or the complex's shared poolside. Inside, the open-plan living and kitchen isn’t the most palatial, and that canary yellow bedroom might be too perky for some. That said, it’s all beautifully cared for and perfect for a small family sharing. Nestled in the quaint village of Perledo, you’ve got all of Lake Como’s best bits within easy reach, starting with Varenna, just a short drive away. Or hop on the nearby ferry to other hotspots including Lecco, Bergamo, and Milan.

We defy anyone to look through this home's photos and not feel instantly at ease. It's something to do with the ample amounts of space, cleansing white walls and large arched windows that look out over rooftops and also flood the interior with sunshine.

The design is definitely sparse, although we think there are enough personal touches to ward off accusations of anonymity. The floral-style lampshade in the bedroom is eye-catching and we also like the vintage travel adverts hanging in frames on the wall.

However, don't be surprised if you don't actually spend all too much time in the apartment. The home's position in the Mezzegra region is simply gorgeous, helped by the fact that the banks of Lake Como can be reached in five minutes' walk. Villa del Balbianello takes forty-five minutes to reach on foot, while you catch a ferry to the town of Bellagio in just over an hour.

White Negroni

Sleek and sophisticated, this apartment is ideal for families or groups of friends planning a trip to picture-perfect Lugano. Located right in the heart of the city, you'll settle into the Swiss way of life in no time at all. 

Step inside, and you'll find a contemporary space that's full of natural light. It's a great place to kick back and relax between your adventures – flop down on the sofa with a good book, or get busy in the kitchen with some fresh local ingredients. There's even a balcony where you can sip your morning coffee, and if you need to work then one of the bedrooms has its own desk where you can catch up on emails. 

From here, you're just a five-minute walk away from the gorgeous lakeside. Join the Lungolago di Lugano walking trail, and marvel at the stunning scenery with views across the water to the mountains beyond. The marvelous green space of Parco Ciani is also just a five-minute walk away, and culture fans will be delighted that the Museo D'arte Della Svizzera Italiana is the same distance. And, when you get hungry, there are plenty of nearby restaurants serving up tasty Swiss-Italian dishes to enjoy.

Nestled in the heart of Varenna, this apartment oozes elegance with marble floors, crystal chandeliers, and views over San Giorgio Square. You’ll need to climb stairs to this first-floor home, and there’s no air conditioning here, but step out onto the private terrace and you’ll feel the warm Italian breeze. Location-wise, you’ll see why this apartment caught our eye. Within walking distance of Lake Como, the sandy shores of Molo di Sotto beach, and a plethora of shops and Italian eateries, there’s plenty to occupy your time here. 

In the Heart of Varenna

Nestled on the shores of Lake Como, a mere ten-minute drive from Bellagio, this four-storey villa boasts panoramic water views and a private pool. The fourth floor isn’t accessible, but there’s still plenty of space for up to ten guests to spread out across the remaining three floors – although it’s worth noting that at full occupancy, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed on the second floor. Still, with the tranquillity of the garden and private access to the lake, you’re highly likely to spend most of your time in the outdoor space, soaking up the sun, dining alfresco and enjoying the lake vistas. 

The Lake's Edge

Located on the edge of Lake Como, this historic home welcomes you to an atmospheric waterfront escape. Combining tradition and contemporary comfort, the rooms are well suited to groups in search of ease and relaxation. Highlights include the sweet little balcony and the views, plus your host can arrange welcome packs and housekeeping. It’s worth noting the stairs do not have a handrail so this may not be the best option for families with young children, but you will find this is a great base for a lakeside adventure. From here, it’s a short stroll to cafes, bars and restaurants, while the ferry is just 400 metres away.
