Wander the streets with a gelato, or call into cafes for coffee and watch the world go by – there’s no need to rush, you’re in Italy after all. The jewel in Padenghe’s crown is undoubtedly the castle; whether you’re a history buff or you’re just in it for the views of Garda, it’s well worth strolling five minutes up the hill to explore. Further afield, beautiful Sirmione is less than ten miles away. 

However you spend your stay, make sure you spend at least one evening on the terrace with a glass of something local, watching the sun set slowly over the lake. If you’re anything like us, you’d kick yourself for missing it.

You'll find sandy beaches just 4km away, as well as the Garda Golf Centre 2km from your door. It's also a great destination for hikers and cyclists after scenic trails along the lake. With a large garden, complete with a swimming pool, sun terrace, shaded dining area and play area for the kids, the home offers complete privacy and space to stretch out. Inside, there are also plenty of bright and spacious living areas to relax, with one double bedroom having access to a private balcony overlooking the idyllic surroundings.

Nestled in Cecina village, where rolling green hills form an enviable backdrop, this villa lies only minutes from the famous Lake Garda. Combining history and culture, the building has been beautifully restored and retains many of its original features. Think fine marble staircases, wrought iron railings and intricately carved window frames – stepping into this home will transport you back in time. The interiors are super homely with pops of sunshine yellow, which perfectly mirrors the exterior.
Open up the French doors and take a seat on the comfy sofa to enjoy your morning coffee and gaze at the spectacular views of the lake. The private balcony looks out over the piazza, and is the perfect place to breathe in some fresh air and watch the world go by. Inside the apartment, there are characterful exposed beams and terracotta tiled floors. Another stand-out feature of this home is the main bathroom which has Swarovski crystals set in the furniture and on the washbasin – we do love a bit of bling.

Situated a few steps from Spiaggia D'oro and the centre of Desenzano del Garda, it has a fabulous location. If you have kids with you, there's a playground 50 metres away too.

It's just a short stroll to the lakefront promenade and beaches, not to mention only 250 metres from the restaurants, gelaterias, and shops in Toscolano. Back home, a sunny garden and private pool provide plenty of entertainment. A couple of sofa beds keep sleeping arrangements flexible here, and while some of the design is a little dated, we think it'll do just fine for a family getaway.
