If you’d rather explore on foot, your local town of Torno has pizzerias, pretty squares and cafes to keep you going. Or, simply admire the hills that flank Lake Como from the privacy of your sprawling, waterfront terrace. A dining table beneath the twisting vine of a pergola provides the alfresco dining spot and the piece de resistance is the plunge-style swimming pool for a cooling dip. Outdoor sofas, chairs and loungers are scattered across the terrace, so there’s no problem finding a spot to watch the sunset, cold drink in hand. 

Within the villa, you’ve got three grand lounges to choose from, allowing the group to spread out in style. Seclude yourself away in the light-filled lounge with arched old windows looking out over the lake, or retire to the dusky violet and velvet purple lounge for a glass of red by the marble fireplace. There’s also a family snug for a more casual evening on comfy sofas. A long atrium of glass walls is home to one of the sunniest games rooms we’ve seen – with a library of books, ping pong and foosball. We love the vistas over Lake Como from this apartment’s Juliet balconies in the living room and bedroom. On a practical note, the living area can get a bit cramped if four guests stay, as two will be sleeping on a sofa bed here. Also, the kitchenette doesn’t have an oven or much food preparation space, so it’s best suited to making snacks and light meals. Luckily, there are a couple of eateries nearby. This home is situated in Carate Urio on the western shore of Lake Como, with lots of residential villas. If you fancy going on a boat trip to explore Lake Como’s other towns, take a ten-minute walk to Urio’s dock.

Inside, sliding doors connect the open living space to the outdoor area, where you'll find sun loungers, a dining table, and a barbecue. Spread over four floors with an internal lift, there's also a fully equipped home gym, complete with a sauna and spa shower. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms benefit from sweeping lake views, and there's a study area for those working remotely. And, when you're ready to explore, it's just a short drive from the city of Como – the villa also comes with garage parking.

This contemporary apartment is located in Via Tommaso Grossi in Como, offering panoramic views of the city and lake from the communal rooftop terrace. We love the sleek interiors of this home, which provides a comfortable stay for a family or group of friends. Just note – as a party of five, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. Still, it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make for this pad’s enviable location. If the views tempt you out for a meander, you’ll find Como at your feet just waiting to be explored.

You can enjoy the vistas from inside too with its traditionally styled open-plan living space (this room sleeps one guest on a sofa bed at full capacity). We love that the main bedroom has French doors opening onto the lawn as well. When you want to explore this corner of Lake Como, your hosts can arrange bikes or even classic car rentals if you want to see the area in style. Or take a stroll around the village of Laglio with its narrow cobblestone streets, ancient stone houses, and historic villas.

You'll be based in the small town of Carate Urio, where cobblestone streets lead to scenic trails and local amenities. Como, Bellagio, and Menaggio are also within driving distance when you're keen to explore.

Situated just a stone's throw away from beautiful Lake Como, this apartment is ideal for a relaxing break. We love the barrel-vaulted ceilings here and there’s a side view of the lake and a bright living room which sleeps guests three and four on a sofa bed. The location is great for strolls along the shore and the funicular to the village of Brunate is nearby, making exploring easy. This home is also very close to the centre of Como with its shops, restaurants, and landmarks.
