Located on the first floor of a 1920s block, it's been recently revamped by Palomba Serafini Associati studio. Original features such as high ceilings, stuccoes and radiators have been maintained and paired with contemporary furniture, LED site specific art-chandelier, and limited-edition statement artworks. The overall effect is just stunning. There are other more practical highlights – a 24-hour concierge service accessed by scanning a QR code is probably our favourite. Located right next to Corso Buenos Aires, this vibrant area of the city (central north-east) is a mere steps from the central station and within easy reach of the sights. Overall, this home delivers style and substance for both holidaymakers and business travellers.

Inside, you'll find a sociable, open-plan living space with period features – we're talking tall ceilings, high windows and a fireplace – along with modern built-in storage and a kitchen area. The dining table is a real statement, made for long, lazy meals and sitting up chatting over a bottle of red. The bedrooms are private and unique, and it's ideal for a couple of friends sharing. Here you'll be a five-minute walk from the Metro station, so all of central Milan is at your fingertips.

Space might be limited, but this apartment in Milan’s Città Studi district knows exactly how to make it work. Recently renovated with a crisp finish, it keeps things simple without feeling sparse. Graceful & Bold

In the middle of the various universities whose students populate the aptly named Città Studi, Tarantella is a slightly different prospect to the flats in the medieval city centre, but in a good way. The floors, which date back as far as the building, are something else – the tiles are arranged in a lovely pattern. This, along with the art of the walls (all made by the host), is what really stands out about the flat in terms of design. It’s enough though, and if you do need to be near the universities, it’s a godsend.


Tarantella

There's something incredibly elegant about this apartment. It's set in an Art Nouveau building in Loreto, close to Corso Buenos Aires' excellent shopping and twenty minutes by metro from the Duomo. Glittering chandeliers, stained-glass windows, and antique furniture all marry perfectly with the traditional 19th-century features. The formal living area and dining room are designed for group gatherings, while the last bedroom has three single beds that are ideal for little ones. Sure, it's a bit dated and the owner lives in an adjacent apartment, but we think it suits those seeking a large family home just a stone's throw from central Milan.

Antique Elegance

Sleek and simple, this apartment is perfect for a fuss-free stay. The living space is bright and designed for socialising. There's a well-appointed kitchen, a table that doubles as a desk, and a cosy lounge area where you can kick back. It's not in the centre, so we wouldn't suggest it for those keen on sightseeing. But, if you'd prefer a more local experience in Milan, you'll find an array of restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. It's also nestled between two subway stations (Piola and Lambrate), making it easy to get around when the mood strikes.

Urban Design

You'll find this apartment in Porta Venezia, home to vibrant bars, delicious eateries, and excellent shopping along Corso Buenos Aires. The metro station is a short walk away, making it a breeze to reach the Duomo and explore Milan's outer corners. Back home, the stylish living space references the époque building. The marble kitchen is well-suited to rustling up light bites, while the comfortable bedroom is just what's needed after a long day. Just note that the third guest will sleep on a sofa bed, so we think it's best for short visits.

The kitchen here is well set up for snacks and light bites, and for dinner, Porta Venezia’s vibrant restaurant scene has you covered. While the sofa bed in the living area can sleep a third guest, the only bathroom is accessed via the bedroom, so at full capacity, privacy would be limited. It’s also worth noting that children under 2 aren’t allowed here. We think this home is best suited to a couple or solo traveller wanting a vibrant place to stay with easy access to Milan’s must-sees.

The small but charming balconies leading off the living area and main bedroom are a nice touch, too.

Found in a beautiful, early 1900s period building near the very heart of Milan, this home has a definite allure to it. Perhaps it's in the way it stays true to its roots with the parquet flooring and large, shuttered windows, or maybe it's in the elegance with which it has been renovated, or, it’s a very real possibility that the charm comes from the balance between the old and the new. 

Rise with the sun and open every window and balcony door to let the breeze carry in the sounds of Milan as you get to work on breakfast in the compact kitchen. There’s no need to hire a car for a stay in this apartment in Milan’s old town – most of the must-see sights can be reached on foot and there’s a Metro station a minute’s walk away. Located on the top floor of a historical building, you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below so it’s surprisingly quiet for a city centre pad. The minimalist decor here won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we love the mix of white walls and bold window frames. Cumulonimbus shows an inherent understanding of how to combine the old and the new. The modern Foscarini lamps and the sleek kitchen contrast wonderfully with the tiled floors (parquet in other rooms) and the elegant cornices. Given that the second bedroom has a single bed (and a pullout underneath it), the flat would work particularly well for families visiting Milan, and the well-equipped kitchen makes family meals very doable.

Besides, it’s just a fifteen-minute walk to the Duomo at the centre of Milan where there are more than enough bars, restaurants and shops to keep you busy.

Surrounded by shops, cafes and good restaurants, there's more than enough to enjoy on your doorstep. Fondazione Prada, home to a world-famous contemporary art collection is a ten-minute walk from your door. The building itself is a work of art, converted from a century-old distillery into a modern-day marvel. Even the café Bar Luce is something to behold, designed by renowned film director Wes Anderson. The flat has a sense of individuality to it – the design is sophisticated, with lots of beautiful objects that elevate it beyond what you might reasonably expect from a place of its size. It’s all fairly valuable, so for that reason the host, Rita, would prefer to rent to adults, or at least not young children.

This is a delightful little apartment in the shadow of the Sforzesco Castle. The sprawling greenery of Sempione Park is right on your doorstep and the Duomo, Royal Palace and Teatro alla Scala are all within a fifteen-minute walk. We love the apartment’s terrace, which is home to all sorts of pot plants and cacti, and a table and chairs for a cold glass of something (there's a dedicated wine fridge inside). The designer sofas and curated collection of coffee table books in the living room are everything you’d expect in Italy’s capital of style. But it’s the ceiling that draws the eye – a slant of white-washed wood beams adding a delightfully rustic touch, and lending itself to make-shift books shelves in every available nook and cranny. Despite the proximity to both the castle and the Brera district (home to cafés, restaurants and luxury fashion boutiques), this place is in a residential block, so you’re guaranteed a little peace and quiet.
