There’s no need to hire a car for a stay in this apartment in Milan’s old town – most of the must-see sights can be reached on foot and there’s a Metro station a minute’s walk away. Located on the top floor of a historical building, you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below so it’s surprisingly quiet for a city centre pad. On the edge of Brera and Garibaldi, Artemis is wonderfully placed for both the nightlife that fills the area, and for getting to other parts of the city. The flat has a sense of individuality to it – the design is sophisticated, with lots of beautiful objects that elevate it beyond what you might reasonably expect from a place of its size. It’s all fairly valuable, so for that reason the host, Rita, would prefer to rent to adults, or at least not young children.

There are so many good things about Sailor’s Solace that it’s hard to know where to start. We adore the living room, a place that feels down-to-earth and yet special at the same time – especially when it fills with sunlight. It’s hard not to flop into the hammock as soon as you see it, and even harder to peel yourself away. At this unique home, it's tempting just to stay in, passing the evening on the terrace with a Campari for company.

But when in Milan, there's much to see. And here, you’re close enough to most of the major attractions to walk (and if you weren’t, there’s a station nearby). Start with the medieval Sforzesco Castle, just a ten-minute walk away. The 15th-century structure sits on an expanse of beautifully-manicured gardens – there's even an aquarium, ideal if you're travelling with children. 

From here, wind your way towards the Duomo, stopping for a coffee and cannoli somewhere along the way. The cathedral is like nothing else you've ever seen, constructed from elegant pink marble.

This is a delightful little apartment in the shadow of the Sforzesco Castle. The sprawling greenery of Sempione Park is right on your doorstep and the Duomo, Royal Palace and Teatro alla Scala are all within a fifteen-minute walk. We love the apartment’s terrace, which is home to all sorts of pot plants and cacti, and a table and chairs for a cold glass of something (there's a dedicated wine fridge inside). The designer sofas and curated collection of coffee table books in the living room are everything you’d expect in Italy’s capital of style. But it’s the ceiling that draws the eye – a slant of white-washed wood beams adding a delightfully rustic touch, and lending itself to make-shift books shelves in every available nook and cranny. Despite the proximity to both the castle and the Brera district (home to cafés, restaurants and luxury fashion boutiques), this place is in a residential block, so you’re guaranteed a little peace and quiet.

Ideally located just ten minutes from the stunning Duomo di Milano, this simple yet chicly presented apartment puts you in a prime spot to soak up the best of the city’s fashionable energy. 

Wood floors, clean white cabinetry and contemporary furnishings offer an inviting welcome in the open-plan living space. Start mornings over freshly made coffee and locally bought pastries at the breakfast bar and spend evenings curled up on the sofa with a glass of Italian wine before setting off to discover the countless restaurants nearby. We love the bedroom’s pink and blue feature wall, setting a serene scene for a dreamy night’s sleep.

Located on Corso Garibaldi, you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to cute Italian cafes, shops and restaurants. It’s also within easy reach of Parco Sempione and you’ll find the public transport ensures quick links with the rest of Milan. It’s worth noting the apartment is basic, but it’s ideal for couples or solo travellers with the handy addition of a sofa bed for one guest in the living room.

It’s a vista best seen with the Juliet balcony doors wide open (glass of something chilled optional), as dusk begins to settle over the city. Elsewhere in this bright and airy home, quality and Milanese style permeate the interiors, from the designer Zanotta sofa to the high-tech kitchen that’s been positioned just so to take in those views of the bustling Cinque Vie district below. And when its charming, narrow streets finally call, you’ll find some of the city’s best boutiques, antique shops, and galleries just moments away, and historic sights less than a ten-minute stroll away. Now, how’s that for a location?

There’s an incredible amount of natural light in this chic, pared-back apartment that makes the whole space dazzle. With its floor-to-ceiling windows on all sides, the open-plan living area gives you privileged views across Milan’s rooftops and a living backdrop to admire from the comfort of the sofa or while enjoying a meal at the stylish round dining table. 

The two bedrooms, meanwhile, have a similarly modern aesthetic, with an en-suite main bedroom letting you wake up to more tall window views and a second bedroom equipped with a desk space should you need to catch up on work. 

You’ve also got access to a communal rooftop terrace – the ideal spot to take in sunset views of the Duomo di Milano over a celebratory Spritz before going out to sample the local restaurant scene. 

When it comes to sightseeing, you couldn’t ask for a more central location. The Duomo di Milano is a seven-minute walk away, the elegant ​​Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a five-minute stroll, the Teatro alla Scala is walkable in eight and the fashionable Quadrilatero della moda is four minutes away on foot.


Danza di Luce

Set on the bustling Corso Garibaldi, Bumblebee is right in the heart of the evening action - you’ll soon get caught up in the crowds of Milanese setting out for their aperitivo. The apartment is a comfortable - if slightly functional - space, with a funky design and a nice mix of old and new. This would be a great place for those who are after an experience more akin to a hotel, as there are several other apartments from the same host in the building.

Bumblebee

Empatia goes to show how much you can do, even with a small space. The flat’s very bright, and when you’re inside, it’s clear how much work Marta’s put into the place – she designed it all herself. While there are bright colours all over the place, they’re set against fairly neutral backgrounds, so never feel overwhelming. We particularly like the creativity shown with the balcony – repurposing the space like that takes a fair amount of imagination and it pays off.


Empatia

Nestled in Milan’s stylish Quadrilatero Della Moda neighbourhood, this studio apartment is the perfect base for a cultural or business excursion. The vibrant energy of the city is not only reflected in the design here, but just outside your door, you’ll have easy access to the city’s coffee shops, authentic restaurants, and art galleries. The Gio Ponti-inspired interior provides a compact but comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. There’s no kitchen – just a Smeg minibar, kettle and Nespresso machine to aid your wakeups – when you’re ready for a bite, Milan’s culinary institutions are at your fingertips.

Only a few minutes away from Centrale, Pastel Playground is well-connected to all parts of Milan and beyond. Considering the central location, this split-level home is a little oasis of tranquillity, which you’ll especially appreciate after a day of exploration. The lower level has a bright hangout spot with great natural light just by the stairs, but that’s not even the best part. The upstairs kitchen which transitions into a glasshouse dining room (and then a rooftop terrace) is quite the experience on its own. A welcoming atmosphere like this is hard to find.

This home takes you on a journey through the historic beauty of Milan through to its current-day Modernism. Located in the charming Guastalla neighbourhood and moments from the 16th-Century Giardini della Guastalla, this charming apartment invites you to experience the rich culture of Milan.

There’s a light and calm ambience to this home that feels refreshing. From the sleek-styled kitchen, it’s the kind of space that inspires a sense of tranquillity, to the neutral-hued, open living room that opens out to a private terrace - you’ll feel spoilt by space and seclusion. And whether you’re spending mornings on the balcony with your Nespresso, or sinking into the jacuzzi bath after a long day of seeing the sights, it’s easy to feel at home here. 

Outside, you can wander with along the stylish streets to the Duomo, only a ten–minute walk away before stopping off at Zia Esterina Sorbillo for the ultimate, puffy-fried pizza fritta adorned with prosciutto and provola di bufala which will more than satisfy. Stop off at the Teatro alla Scalla before grabbing a seat at Camparino in Galleria for the Milanese aperitivo amongst the regulars.

Giardini Milano

Soak up the bohemian vibe of Corso Garibaldi, just a short walk from this fuss-free apartment for four. The enviable central spot does mean there’s the potential for some street noise, but from the fourth floor, we don’t think it should cause too much bother and it’s a small price to pay for the convenience of your location. With many key sights within walking distance and Italian eateries and shops on your doorstep, you’ll be living like a local in no time. 

Garibaldi Gem

You’ll be surrounded by chic shopping streets in the middle of Brera, just two minutes down the street from the beautiful art gallery Pinacoteca di Brera. You can easily walk to the Duomo di Milano, just fourteen minutes away, or take the twelve-minute saunter to sprawling Parco Sempione. Back at home, you’ll be neatly tucked under the eaves, with characterful exposed wooden beams and bright skylights. The open-plan living area makes the most of the small space, and it’s filled to the brim with charm – the wood kitchen, ornamental fireplace and pops of red that adorn the walls and furniture. The playful library wallpaper and armchair make a good nook for reading, while the bedroom is especially inviting after a long day of exploring on your feet. Sink into the comfortable sheets, and sleep well to recharge for tomorrow.

The Cock's Crow

The terrace, along with the vast windows, helps counter some smaller issues with Bredbeddle. As a whole, it’s a lovely flat – the white walls and brilliant light give it a sense of space and calm. As you step onto the balcony, it’s as if you’re no longer in the city, so intense is the green that greets you on all sides. You are, however, very much in the middle of the city, and there are lots of good places to eat nearby, which is important given that the kitchen is the biggest letdown in the place. It’s very small, and you wouldn’t want to do more than heating up a pot there.

The first thing you'll notice about this Milan pad is the enormous windows in the living area. We loved how they filled the room with light, and the views aren't bad either – you're overlooking the leafy Piazza Santa Maria Beltrade, right in the heart of Milan. 

Clean lines, cream tones and contemporary stylings give this flat a very relaxing atmosphere. We found it to be an excellent respite after a busy day wandering Milan, and the bedrooms were perfectly comfortable. The kitchen is a little basic – it lacks a proper oven and the fridge is small – but with delicious restaurants right on your doorstep, we doubt you'll get up to much cooking. 

But the location is the best part of all. It's a quick five-minute walk to the Duomo and six on foot from the boutiques in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. You're so central, it's incredibly easy to get anywhere in the city either by foot or by public transport – so easy, in fact, that you won't even need a car.

Maestro Antico

This contemporary studio apartment in the upscale Quadrilatero Della Moda neighbourhood is perfect for a couple or solo traveller. The apartment's location is ideal for exploring the vibrant city of Milan, with easy access to Teatro alla Scala, Duomo di Milano, and the shopping street, Via della Spiga. Although the apartment is compact and there is no kitchen on offer here, it provides a comfortable base to relax between adventures – the balcony is a big check in our books, too. With excellent transport links to the rest of the city via the nearby Montenapoleone metro station, this pad is the perfect home for your Milan city break.

The Modern Renaissance

You’ll find this apartment just a short stroll away from Corso Garibaldi, the epicentre of Milan's nightlife and shopping. So, you'll be surrounded by bars, restaurants, and boutiques, while a number of the city’s attractions will be within walking distance, too. Inside this stylish apartment, there’s a minimalist vibe and a well-equipped kitchen for creating some Milanese cuisine. Due to its great location, it's fair to say that you may hear some noise here. But all in all, we’d say this place is the ideal choice for both business travellers and tourists alike.

Garibaldi Living

Located just steps from Piazza San Babila and the iconic Milan Cathedral, this fuss-free apartment drops you into the heart of the city. Ideal as a base for families or friends, just bear in mind that at full occupancy, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. There’s also no oven, but with a whole host of Italian eateries on your doorstep, who wants to be cooking anyway? Locally, you can reach plenty of sights on foot, or hop on the nearby metro for jaunts further afield. 

Milanese Magic

Greenwood is a comfortable place, with lots of space and natural light, but its main selling point is definitely the location. It’s around the corner from the Duomo – it’s less than a five-minute walk away – and on a main road, so there are lots of transport links. The interior’s not the point of the apartment, but that isn’t to say that it’s been overlooked. The tiled bathrooms, in particular, are striking, and we also really liked the big houseplant in the corner.

While Redlake is a nice flat in itself (and Laura is a great host), the most exciting thing about it is the location. 10 Corso Como, the concept store to end all concept stores (it has an art gallery, a restaurant, and even a hotel inside), is right next door, as part of a stretch of high-end shops that act as a foil to the stately boutiques in the Quadrilateral. It’s one of the most fashionable districts in the city.

Walking through central Milan is not something we’d recommend doing in a hurry. You’ll constantly be stopping to admire the ornate architecture, ancient monuments, and some of the most impressive cathedrals in the world. Seven minutes from this city apartment, the pink marble Duomo di Milano awaits. And en route, you’ll pass more awe-inspiring sights such as the Teatro alla Scala and Manzoni House, both just two minutes from home. Now, where were we meant to be going again?

When you return after a long day exploring your magnificent surroundings, you’ll be greeted by a grand lobby. Strut upstairs via a red carpet set over glossy marble floors, with a rose-gold chandelier hanging above. As if you didn’t already feel like a VIP, your host can arrange for a private chef, flower deliveries, city tours, and drivers – all you have to do is ask.

In your apartment, glossy floors continue, but this time in elegant hardwood. Modern interiors dominate the space, with a plush corner sofa and glass dining table setting the 21st-century tone. We love the quirky use of red as the highlight colour in this otherwise understated palette. Cherry-red breakfast stools, wall prints, and a coffee machine harmonise in the kitchen – just in time for an espresso martini.

Ossola Marble

We don't think you'll find a more quintessentially Milanese address than this. Not only does the apartment sit on the seventh floor of the Galleria del Corso shopping arcade, but there's an impressive view to be had out through the windows of the iconic Duomo standing tall among the city rooftops. 

Rather fittingly for such a prestigious location, the interior is luxurious in style, with a wealth of wooden floors, mid-century furnishings and chic lighting. The svelte grey bathroom wouldn't look out of place in some of the city's most covetable hotels, while the kitchen has everything you need in case you want to take a night off from the local restaurants.

As well as a huge range of shops that sit a few floors beneath the home, there's an even larger collection in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, only six minutes' walk away. The Piazza del Duomo sits the same amount of time away, as does the Royal Palace.


Fashionista's Paradise

The location of Maestro d’Argento, about as central as it gets in Milan, would be enough to go on by itself, but luckily Laura and her team haven’t stopped there. Everything in the flat is pretty high-end, quality that manifests itself in the comfortable furniture and the serious kitchen. It’s not especially jazzy when it comes to design, but that’s not necessarily the worst thing in the world, particularly for longer stays.
