With a great address in the historic centre of Milan, this apartment is within walking distance of some of the city's iconic sights. The Duomo di Milano is around fifteen minutes on foot, while the Castello Sforzesco is just over a five-minute stroll. So that's the location – what about the apartment? Well, there's a well-equipped kitchen for cooking some tasty Milanese cuisine. We'd say this home doesn't really have a homely feel, but it's a comfy place to stay while exploring all that Milan has to offer.

A simple flat with an emphasis on clean lines, Echoes is a really good option for short stays in Milan. Over a longer period, the lack of washing machine might start to grate, but that’s really the only thing we can think of. It’s just off Corso Magenta, a main road that leads all the way in to the city centre, and there’s a metro station nearby as well, so getting further afield is simple.

There’s no need to hire a car for a stay in this apartment in Milan’s old town – most of the must-see sights can be reached on foot and there’s a Metro station a minute’s walk away. Located on the top floor of a historical building, you’re away from the hustle and bustle of the streets below so it’s surprisingly quiet for a city centre pad. The minimalist decor here won’t be to everyone’s taste, but we love the mix of white walls and bold window frames. On the edge of Brera and Garibaldi, Artemis is wonderfully placed for both the nightlife that fills the area, and for getting to other parts of the city. The flat has a sense of individuality to it – the design is sophisticated, with lots of beautiful objects that elevate it beyond what you might reasonably expect from a place of its size. It’s all fairly valuable, so for that reason the host, Rita, would prefer to rent to adults, or at least not young children.

Close to the metro, museums, and many delicious eateries, this apartment gets full marks for its location. It's on the cusp of the trendy Brera district, yet only a twenty-minute walk from landmarks like the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. We love the amount of space on offer inside. The living area is bathed in sunlight and has plenty of room to rest weary feet, though the kitchen is compact. Having two en-suite bathrooms is another bonus – perfect for those wanting privacy.

There’s a real sense of serenity to this home in Milan’s Porta Venezia district with its beamed ceilings, rustic-meets-modern furniture and its oasis-like terrace. Boasting shuttered French doors in each room leading out onto this calm outdoor space, you can while away the hours here, enjoying alfresco breakfasts and sunset drinks aplenty. We love the tiled details in the home too – especially in the green bathroom and behind the kitchenette – as well as the ornate copper fireplace in the master bedroom. Whether you’re gathering around the rustic dining table for dinner, sipping a cool glass of wine on the terrace or kicking back on the sofas with a good book, this home welcomes socialising and relaxation in spades. Outside of your home, the Giardini Indro Montanelli is just a ten-minute walk away, while the Duomo di Milano is just under thirty minutes from your door. The Milano Centrale Railway Station is also just ten minutes away on foot for allowing for easy exploration further afield.

The terrace, along with the vast windows, helps counter some smaller issues with Bredbeddle. As a whole, it’s a lovely flat – the white walls and brilliant light give it a sense of space and calm. As you step onto the balcony, it’s as if you’re no longer in the city, so intense is the green that greets you on all sides. You are, however, very much in the middle of the city, and there are lots of good places to eat nearby, which is important given that the kitchen is the biggest letdown in the place. It’s very small, and you wouldn’t want to do more than heating up a pot there.

Concordia is really charming – Milco is a wonderful host, and she’s done a really good job at making this flat very welcoming. It’s worth mentioning though that the little space between the bedroom and the living room is a bit strange. It feels like it should be a second bedroom, with some bunk beds against the wall, but it’s actually a hallway, and the only place from which you can enter the bathroom. Given the size of the place, we’d only really recommend people using the bunk beds if completely necessary.

You'll find this contemporary apartment in buzzing Milan, but it takes design inspiration from all over the globe. The Scandi-style living room has hygge written all over it, making it perfect for relaxing or at-home working, and the Japanese bedroom is a characterful spot to end an exciting day exploring the city. Though it's snug, this apartment is super stylish – we loved the bright living area in particular, which has parquet flooring, quirky wall art and a sleek kitchen where you can whip up a tasty Italian feast. There's a real sense of peace here, which is a much-appreciated reprieve from the hustle and bustle nearby. You're not in central Milan, but this neighbourhood has its own charm and offers plenty of liveliness, with many bars, restaurants, cafes and gelaterias in walking distance. Plus, the famous Duomo is just a twenty-minute stroll away, so you're not far from the iconic sights.

Art museums, designer shops, fantastic restaurants – Milan's Brera neighbourhood is the place to be if you love the finer things in life. It's where you'll find this no-frills apartment, situated just a short walk from tram stops and a metro station. While two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, we don't think you'll have to compromise on space. There are desks in each bedroom if you plan to work from home, a sleek kitchen if you fancy rustling up dinner, and even a terrace where you can enjoy an alfresco aperitif.

This modern loft is ideally situated in central Milan, just a few steps from Corso Como and around the corner from Bosco Verticale. There’s a metro station a one-minute walk away, making it effortless to see sights like the Duomo, which is twenty minutes away. The loft apartment is a comfortable fuss-free base, with a petite kitchen and dining area. The bedroom is on the mezzanine level, partially open to the floor below where there’s a sofa bed – if you’re hoping for more privacy, we’d stick to a guest count of two.

Bigger isn't always better, and at this stylish home in a particularly nice part of the Scalo di Porta Romana neighbourhood, you'll be enchanted by its clever use of space and chic minimalism. Set on the ground floor, and with a typically high ceiling creating a mezzanine floor for the bedroom, it's dazzlingly white, and filled with fascinating art and quirky furnishings.

The part-time home of a fine arts teacher, it's designed with simplicity and style in mind. We love the sofa made from a base of pallets, along with the comfy dining spot and the practical kitchen. And although the climb up to the bedroom is not for the faint of heart, it's a serene space, perfect for reading. 

Surrounded by shops, cafes and good restaurants, there's more than enough to enjoy on your doorstep. Fondazione Prada, home to a world-famous contemporary art collection is a ten-minute walk from your door. The building itself is a work of art, converted from a century-old distillery into a modern-day marvel. Even the café Bar Luce is something to behold, designed by renowned film director Wes Anderson. But all that said, if it's the big attractions of the city you're after, you're just a six-minute walk from Brenta metro station, and a seven minute walk from Lodi for an easy ride into the centre of town.

A small place that punches above its weight, Colour Reversal has been well designed, and that makes a lot of difference. The way that the kitchen fits in with the living room works perfectly from an aesthetic standpoint, and while having the kitchen and the sofa bed in the same room isn’t ideal, we wouldn’t really recommend using that bed anyway. It’s always nice to have the option, however, so we won’t complain.

All but a five-minute walk to the Corso Venezia – part of the city's upscale Quadrilatero della moda shopping district – this enviable apartment sits right at the heart of the fashion hubbub. Locally, the surrounding area is lovely, benefitting from calm squares, grand architectural statements, and the historic centre is easy to get to on foot – the Duomo di Milano is a twenty-minute stroll away. Back home, you'll find a bright and roomy living space with light neutral tones, soft thoughtful furnishings, chic replica prints and a stylish Castiglioni lamp. The kitchen is colourful and uplifting, with pops of red, plenty of sunlight coming in through the window and a charming dining spot to enjoy breakfast while planning out the day's trips. The bedrooms have their own personalities, with a children's bunk-bed room that will quickly put the kids at ease.

Nestled in the charming Moscova area of Milan, this apartment pops you into the heart of the action. Sure, it’s fuss-free and simple in design, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay in the city. Location-wise, you’ll find Milan Cathedral, Sempione Park and Sforzesko Castle within easy reach, while the nearby metro makes hopping further afield a breeze. And when dinnertime rolls around, you’ll find a selection of eateries on your doorstep, waiting to serve up a true taste of Italy.

It’s not going to set the world on fire in terms of design, but that’s not really the point. Looking to stay right in the heart of Milan? We’ve found you just the right spot in town. Overlooking the beautiful church of San Giorgio al Palazzo and less than five-minutes away from the Duomo, lies this light-filled penthouse. Spread out across the top floor of an elegant building, the home is made for a family or a group of friends set on exploring the city.  We particularly loved the living spaces which make for easy socialising. The original marble fireplace and custom-made bookcases create the perfect setting to come together for a few pre-evening drinks. And surprisingly, for somewhere this central we found the apartment very quiet. It really is the perfect retreat within the hustle and bustle of Milan.

Sleek and elegant, this Milanese apartment is the perfect choice for a couple’s getaway. Sure, the lift only takes you part of the way up to this fifth-floor pad, but the remaining stairs are worth the effort. Step through the door and you’ll be drawn to the private terrace –  a bonus being this high up, just mind your head on those beautiful beams and sloping ceilings as you make a beeline for the sunny spot. Keen on a trip out? Take a two-minute walk to the Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" was painted.

There are so many good things about Sailor’s Solace that it’s hard to know where to start. We adore the living room, a place that feels down-to-earth and yet special at the same time – especially when it fills with sunlight. It’s hard not to flop into the hammock as soon as you see it, and even harder to peel yourself away. At this unique home, it's tempting just to stay in, passing the evening on the terrace with a Campari for company.

But when in Milan, there's much to see. And here, you’re close enough to most of the major attractions to walk (and if you weren’t, there’s a station nearby). Start with the medieval Sforzesco Castle, just a ten-minute walk away. The 15th-century structure sits on an expanse of beautifully-manicured gardens – there's even an aquarium, ideal if you're travelling with children. 

From here, wind your way towards the Duomo, stopping for a coffee and cannoli somewhere along the way. The cathedral is like nothing else you've ever seen, constructed from elegant pink marble. 

Sailor's Solace

Walking through central Milan is not something we’d recommend doing in a hurry. You’ll constantly be stopping to admire the ornate architecture, ancient monuments, and some of the most impressive cathedrals in the world. Seven minutes from this city apartment, the pink marble Duomo di Milano awaits. And en route, you’ll pass more awe-inspiring sights such as the Teatro alla Scala and Manzoni House, both just two minutes from home. Now, where were we meant to be going again?

When you return after a long day exploring your magnificent surroundings, you’ll be greeted by a grand lobby. Strut upstairs via a red carpet set over glossy marble floors, with a rose-gold chandelier hanging above. As if you didn’t already feel like a VIP, your host can arrange for a private chef, flower deliveries, city tours, and drivers – all you have to do is ask.

In your apartment, glossy floors continue, but this time in elegant hardwood. Modern interiors dominate the space, with a plush corner sofa and glass dining table setting the 21st-century tone. We love the quirky use of red as the highlight colour in this otherwise understated palette. Cherry-red breakfast stools, wall prints, and a coffee machine harmonise in the kitchen – just in time for an espresso martini.

What makes Colour Inversion special is hard to put your finger on, but that doesn’t mean it should be disregarded. Everything there is perfectly proportioned, so while it is a very small place (it can technically hold four people, but that would be a stretch), it never feels undersized. It’s also just off Corso Buenos Aires, one of the main shopping streets in the city and a lively spot in general.

This is a delightful little apartment in the shadow of the Sforzesco Castle. The sprawling greenery of Sempione Park is right on your doorstep and the Duomo, Royal Palace and Teatro alla Scala are all within a fifteen-minute walk. We love the apartment’s terrace, which is home to all sorts of pot plants and cacti, and a table and chairs for a cold glass of something (there's a dedicated wine fridge inside). The designer sofas and curated collection of coffee table books in the living room are everything you’d expect in Italy’s capital of style. But it’s the ceiling that draws the eye – a slant of white-washed wood beams adding a delightfully rustic touch, and lending itself to make-shift books shelves in every available nook and cranny. Despite the proximity to both the castle and the Brera district (home to cafés, restaurants and luxury fashion boutiques), this place is in a residential block, so you’re guaranteed a little peace and quiet.

Chances are if you’re in Milan you have an interest in design – it is the world design capital after all. Well if you do, this apartment is for you. Located on the first floor of a 1920s block, it's been recently revamped by Palomba Serafini Associati studio. Original features such as high ceilings, stuccoes and radiators have been maintained and paired with contemporary furniture, LED site specific art-chandelier, and limited-edition statement artworks. The overall effect is just stunning. There are other more practical highlights – a 24-hour concierge service accessed by scanning a QR code is probably our favourite. Located right next to Corso Buenos Aires, this vibrant area of the city (central north-east) is a mere steps from the central station and within easy reach of the sights. Overall, this home delivers style and substance for both holidaymakers and business travellers. 


The Ginger House

The location of The Young Artist really sets it apart. It’s less than ten minutes on foot from the Duomo, but tucked away on a quiet street, hidden from the touristic throngs. The apartment’s light, bright colour scheme has been balanced with homely touches to create a warm environment – it’s a pleasure to return to after a day of sightseeing. There’s no better way to start your morning than with a rich espresso on the quiet balcony. On top of that, Lasija is a wonderful host, who’s always ready to make your stay as comfortable as possible. You’re two doors down from a café and a five-minute walk around the corner to bars and ristorantes. Take a quick ten-minute stroll to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II for a spot of shopping in the upscale boutiques or spend a relaxed afternoon in the Sempione Park, reached in just over twenty-five minutes by foot. We recommend grabbing a drink at the kiosk and enjoying the sunshine. 

The Young Artist

For a fuss-free stay in the heart of Milan, look no further than this apartment. Located in the buzzing San Marco district, you'll be close to the Duomo (a twenty-minute stroll), Pinacoteca di Brera (eight minutes on foot), and the shops and cafes on Corso Garibaldi (only moments away). It's not the biggest apartment, nor the brightest, but it has all you'll need – a compact kitchen, a cosy bedroom, and speedy wi-fi if you're working from home. There's also a sofa bed for guests three and four, though we think it's a better fit for two.

When dinner time rolls around, we recommend taking the fifteen-minute stroll to the romantic Brera neighbourhood for stylish restaurants and old-school osterie.
