It can't get more central than this – you'll be within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and countless eateries. After a long day on your feet, you'll appreciate the indoor Jacuzzi waiting for you back home. The overall design is contemporary and chic, featuring open-concept bathrooms that ooze luxury (though privacy is, of course, limited). Travelling as a group of six? Upon request, two guests can kip on single beds in the living area, but we think this home is best for four.

Right around the corner from the Piazza del Popolo (and the magical views from the Terrazza del Pincio), just an eighteen-minute stroll to the angelic Trevi Fountain and an even easier ten-minute walk to the historic Spanish Steps – this place has convenience and ease written into its rustic wooden doors. Tastefully renovated and furnished, but without losing any of the charm of the structure, the interior is a picture of old and new. It's not often we mention our admiration for scruff marks, but the knocks on the wooden fittings nod to the history of the flat, and by extension, the city, so we really love them. Plenty of modern comforts have been added to offer everything you need for an effortless stay, from rainfall showers to cafetieres, it's all there. And when you're in search of a calming spot to delve into a good book, the third and fourth bedrooms benefitting from soft floral sofas, ornamental lanterns and plenty of natural light pouring in, simply call out for your attention.

This attractively decorated apartment is the perfect place for a Roman holiday. When we say that this home is a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain, we really mean it. Or should we say a coin’s throw? Watch where you’re aiming that penny, because this apartment is just steps away from Rome’s most striking water feature. In a quiet lane away from clamouring tourists, this spot has world-famous attractions, but with a local vibe. Stepping in to look around the decor, you notice a delightful mixture of old and new. Keep an eye out for chunky wooden beams, parquet floors, and original masonry as you settle down on antique furniture. Then there’s a somewhat contemporary Scandi look, with minimalist bedspreads, stepped bed frames, and modern, white shelved walls. These shelves are packed with literature and art books. Take your pick from the collection and perch in the study – with its twisted gold column, hardwood furnishings, and vintage typewriter, you’ll feel every bit the European intellectual. The bedroom is at mezzanine level above the living and dining space, so you’ll need to be able to manage the stairs to stay here.

In most cities, paintings dating back to the seventeenth century are typically looked at from a safe distance in museums and galleries, but in a place like Rome, it's not unusual to live among historic artefacts. Take this studio apartment in the middle of Colonna, the famous shopping district. The building dates back to the seventeenth century and the remains of a fresco from that time have been preserved by the architect on one of the walls. Aside from that, the interior design is heavily influenced by mid-century trends, from the Art Deco crockery in the kitchen and the boldly patterned chairs to the Art Nouveau-inspired mirrors in the bathroom. If your four-century-old home has got you in the mood to see more of the city's illustrious heritage, you're in luck as the central location is excellent. You can walk to Trevi Fountain in seven minutes, while the Pantheon can be seen in just under ten.

In this home, though, you'll feel a world away from the crowded streets (though the staircase to the fourth floor might feel a little too narrow for some). The flavours of Rome might inspire you to do some cooking at home, but with a location this good, you'll have your pick of the city's best restaurants.

But the traditional Italian sights continue inside. Your bright living space features large French windows which illuminate rich, hardwood floors, chunky timber ceilings, and some captivating artworks. You’ll love relaxing on the plush sofa with a glass of primitivo in hand as the cherubs look upon you from the walls. Antique-style furniture and an ornate mirror complete this old-world Italian look, which continues through to the bedroom. We love the full wood-panelled wall, where the door to the ensuite is almost camouflaged within this rich wooden feature. After you’ve explored every inch of the apartment, your host has even more surprises. They can arrange for a tour around the city on a classic Vespa, or a wine tasting tour if you’re not quite ready to handle Rome’s traffic.

Refurbished by a local designer, they've retained the character features and combined them with modern comforts such as the stylish bathroom. It’s no wonder this home is a popular choice.

We love the enclosed balcony, where a dining area is surrounded on all sides by glass – the perfect sunny breakfast spot. There’s also a tiny terrace that catches rays of sunshine in the middle of the day, painted sunshine-yellow and set up with a bistro table.

It’s clear that this penthouse is a special place as soon as you open the front door. Every feature of the home has been carefully curated, resulting in an eclectic, yet stylish aesthetic. There's a traditional air here, thanks to the sumptuous velvet sofa and the rustic wooden shutters, but there’s a real sense of fun to be found in the whimsical animal lamps and pretty patterned wallpaper. The annexe gives you some extra space to enjoy, and the roof terrace is an unusual but very welcome feature in the centre of the city. You'll love admiring the gorgeous views across the rooftops as you sip your morning coffee and nibble a croissant kindly provided by your host. They will provide basic cooking ingredients, such as oil and spices, but you'd rather eat out, then you are spoilt for choice in this pocket of Rome, with all the pizza and pasta restaurants you could dream of. The Piazza Navona is just a few steps away, while the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain are both within a ten-minute walk. And, when you're finished exploring the eternal city, a luxurious four-poster bed awaits – it doesn't get much better than this.

Situated a short stroll from both the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain, this apartment has a fantastic location for exploring Rome. The Pantheon, the Roman Forum and much more are also within walking distance. There are a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants in the neighbourhood to enjoy too. From this home’s open-plan living space, there are wonderful views of the Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin. You can take in the vistas from the dining table. The kitchen area is quite compact, we would say – there’s no oven, but there’s a hob and a microwave. But, with an address as great as this, will you be spending much time at the apartment?

Perfectly positioned in the heart of Rome, this contemporary pad is in a pretty unbeatable location. The city's endless array of restaurants, shops and museums are a short walk away, but that's not the only reason we love this neighbourhood. You can wander to the Trevi Fountain in six minutes, stroll through the tremendous Villa Borghese in ten, and shop for provincial produce in Campo de' Fiori in twenty-five minutes, flat. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying 'when in Rome', doesn't it?

After a busy day of sightseeing, pour yourself a glass of red wine and unwind with some locally-sourced gastronomic goodies in the open-plan living area. Decorated in soft cream shades and featuring sumptuous sofas and traditionally-shuttered windows, the lounge radiates relaxation and charm. The kitchen isn't the biggest in our collection, but it's well-equipped if you're in the mood to rustle up a light breakfast or quick lunch. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are comfortable and cosy – just the ticket following a long afternoon on your feet. We think it's an ideal laid-back getaway in Italy's buzzing capital.

You're in the heart of Rome here, an easy walk or quick metro ride away from all the sights. Back home, you'll find everything you need to relax in style. This modern studio apartment in an 18th-century building not only makes a good first impression but continues to reveal more of its charm throughout your stay. Everything is well-considered, from the sleek design to the comfortable furnishings, and from the practical layout to the enviable central location. The home’s footprint is well proportioned and the kitchen being partially separated makes the place feel particularly spacious. The cherry on top is the private balcony – it’s great in the morning with a strong coffee and even better at night with a spritz or two. You’ll find yourself less than a ten-minute walk from the unmistakable Trevi Fountain, virtually next-door neighbours with a modern art gallery and within touching distance of a tempting selection of traditional eateries and cosy bars.

We love this home for its multiple suntrap terraces – enjoy morning coffees on the loungers among the rooftops and lunch spreads on the wrought-iron patio set. With an umbrella for shade, you can spend hours out here with a good novel or bottle of crisp white wine. Inside, you’ll find a thoughtfully designed home with elegant designer furniture. Unwind in the bright, comfortable living area and enjoy a home-cooked feast together at the refined glass table. The bedrooms are decorated with lovely artworks and the marble bathrooms contribute to the understated air of luxury that this home has. Plus, you’ll be in a fabulous location, just a six-minute walk from the gorgeous Villa Borghese Gardens and eight minutes from the treasured Spanish Steps. 

The Roman Gatto

Simply put, Paparazzi is stylish, well-kept and right in the middle of Rome. Domenico is incredibly attentive as a host, and always ready to help, and while there are a few issues that we found, the majority were unavoidable given the age and positioning of the building (fairly slow wi-fi, for example), and the positives far outweigh the negatives. The apartment has been redone recently and you can really tell, particularly in the bathrooms, which feel very modern and sleek.

Neighbouring the high-end boutiques along Via del Babuino, this apartment puts many of Rome's famous landmarks at your fingertips. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza del Popolo – you name it, chances are you can walk to it. During downtime, head home for a quick bite to eat or a catnap in the comfortable bed. The place is modern and functional, with all the essentials you'll need. Just note that two people will sleep on a sofa bed in the living area.

Roman Simplicity

With its close proximity to some of Rome’s most iconic landmarks and cultural sites, this one-bedroom apartment truly emphasises the importance of location, location, location. Set on the ground floor of its building, it’s also convenient and comfortable too – lounge on the sofa after a long day of walking, or play some cards at the small table. While the kitchenette is lacking some appliances, the restaurant and cafe options in the surrounding area more than make up it. After your morning coffee, amble over to the Spanish Steps, both around ten minutes away by foot.

We know that wandering around Rome can become exhausting rather quickly, and quite frankly we think you'll want a place to take in a bit of Aria Fresca. But don't fret because we've got just the answer in this beautiful and bright apartment just moments away from the Spanish Steps and Piazza Lucina. With double-glazed windows and plenty of space, small families or friends will truly be able to relax after their Roman adventures. You shouldn't expect all the glitz and glamour here, but you can get your dose of that while meandering down the streets.

Where do we start with this fantastic apartment? Firstly, there’s a great private roof terrace with 360-degree views of Rome. Adjacent to the terrace, there's a study area, perfect for when you need to work while away. Another highlight is the stylish living space with its designer furnishings. We love that both bathrooms here are en-suite too. The location needs to be mentioned as well – this place is just a short stroll from the Spanish Steps. Within walking distance, you’ll also find the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and much more.

Set right in the heart of Rome’s historic centre and housed in an ancient palazzo of high and mighty proportions, this place feels more like an Italian residence than a city bolthole – and we couldn’t love it more.

Spread out over three floors and exquisitely designed throughout, the designers have taken the best of the period architecture (would you look at those gabled ceilings in the main bedroom suite complete with a private terrace) while bringing the rest of the home elegantly into the 21st Century.  

Sunny mornings call for lazy breakfasts on the rooftop terrace – the home’s hidden gem. Cradled by the crumbling ochre facades, it couldn’t feel more Italian. And if you’re impressed with the view now, wait until dusk when the cupolas of the city’s churches light up. It’s the perfect spot for aperitifs – and the well-stocked honesty bar will come in handy for those.

Keep on top of fitness with the indoor spin bike, then reward yourself with a hydro-massage bath. And for those combining work and play in the city, a dedicated desk space with views of the sunny shared courtyard downstairs should do nicely. 

When it’s time to set off exploring, take your pick from the must-see sights surrounding the elegant Campo Marzio district. The Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain are all less than a ten-minute walk – or a smidge longer with pitstops for pizza al taglio and gelato along the way.

It’s centrally located, housed in a 19th-century building on Via del Corso, a short walk from iconic sights like the Trevi Fountain and Castel Sant’Angelo. The apartment is refined and luxurious, with touches of marble, terracotta, and oak throughout. One of the two living rooms overlooks the terrace, a splendid spot for an evening cocktail. The well-equipped kitchen has everything you might need to cook for yourselves, though there are plenty of excellent restaurants nearby if you’re not a keen chef.

The Roman Splendor is between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza del Popolo, giving it the sort of advantage most flats can only dream of. For seeing the sights, there is no better location, but other people have noticed that, so be prepared for a lot of tourists streaming past your front door. Inside, the place is very pretty – most of the design is quite modern, but it’s juxtaposed with the original structural features, such as the fireplace or the ceiling beams. Then there’s the view from the panoramic terrace, which speaks for itself.


The Roman Splendor

This cute little apartment sits on the Via del Corso in the very centre of Rome. Its neighbours are luxury shops and buzzing pavement cafés, and you’re just a five-minute walk from the Spanish Steps here. Or, follow the Via del Corse five minutes in the other direction to reach the lively square of Pizza del Popolo, lined with cafés and home to a weekly book market.

The apartment is a medley of old and new, with a flatscreen TV sitting above a classic fireplace and gallery-white walls. Gilded mirrors and herringbone floors add a touch of class and the kitchen is a sleek vision of modernity for cooking at home. Our favourite spot has to be the terrace, sheltered by Rome’s historic buildings and set up with bistro tables for cocktails outside.

It's an excellent location for sightseeing with the beautiful Villa Borghese, a mere five-minute saunter and the Spanish steps, a ten-minute wander. Or check out the splendour of one of the city's most iconic landmarks, the Trevi fountain, which is under twenty minutes on foot. Inside this stylish home, while the Louis XVI period antiques catch the eye initially (and deservedly so – they are stunning), this apartment also incorporates more modern features, such as the sleek bathrooms. After a busy day, relax in the chromotherapy shower or let your host organise a private chef to prepare some classic Roman dishes for you and your guests. With its eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary design, this home offers something a little bit different from your standard place in the city.

Golden Goose

Being a resolute decision maker is probably the best quality one could have and it is with practical clarity that the designers who decorated this functional home, approached the job. This to say that if the general feel you are after in a home is luxuriant decadence, you should definitely keep looking. But if efficiency and comfort are your operational words, you might just as well stop here. With all the main sights at a stroll's distance, comfy sofas, and a private little terrace, you really might have found yourself a deal.

Tucked between Piazza di Spagna and the Villa Borghese, you couldn't ask for a better spot to base yourself during your Roman holiday. The cobbled street outside is utterly charming, and even with the crowds milling about a few hundred metres away, it's quite peaceful. The sprawling Villa Borghese is just five minutes away – it's an absolute must-visit, home to lush greenery, city views and beautiful sculptures, plus it's where you'll find the Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre and Museo Pietro Canonica. You're also not far from other tourist attractions – the Spanish Steps are a ten-minute walk, while the Pantheon is reachable in twenty. Inside, the apartment is bright and roomy, with a sleek kitchen and two cosy sofas that you'll want to sink into after a busy. We particularly liked the beautiful artwork of local sights that adorn the walls, and there's even a delicious restaurant downstairs when you don't feel like cooking. End your evenings on the private terrace – just pour yourself a glass of wine and relax as the sun goes down, basking in the magic of Rome.

The stylish kitchen area with its sleek breakfast bar illuminated by Edison bulbs is particularly spacious for a studio in central Rome. Although there’s no door between the bedroom area and living area, an archway and the generally large floorspace makes it feel like a one-bed rather than a studio.

The kitchen, despite having some wonderful exposed brickwork, is pretty small and basic, but there are so many places to eat in the area that you won’t even notice.
