Since 1869, the Campo de' Fiori has been a hub of market trading for fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers. And by evening, this charming square becomes a hub of alfresco dining spots and wine bars. With that in mind, this studio apartment is pretty convenient, at less than a minute away. But if you want to keep busy rather than relaxing with a glass of chianti, you’ll find palaces, museums, and statues all around – such as the Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, two minutes away. However, we feel that this home is somewhat of a landmark itself. As you step inside, you can help but be taken aback by the striking timber ceiling. These thick, rustic beams ooze old-world Italy, transporting you back in time. But with modern twists from minimalist furniture and quirky artworks, there’s an elegant clash of eras which makes this studio feel unique. We love the luxe touches like the marble kitchen sink and bathroom, although your host can provide an even better VIP experience. After being picked up by your private driver from the airport, you might fancy taking up their offer of a wine tasting tour or ride on a classic Vespa.

When we say that this home is a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain, we really mean it. Or should we say a coin’s throw? Watch where you’re aiming that penny, because this apartment is just steps away from Rome’s most striking water feature. In a quiet lane away from clamouring tourists, this spot has world-famous attractions, but with a local vibe. Stepping in to look around the decor, you notice a delightful mixture of old and new. Keep an eye out for chunky wooden beams, parquet floors, and original masonry as you settle down on antique furniture. Then there’s a somewhat contemporary Scandi look, with minimalist bedspreads, stepped bed frames, and modern, white shelved walls. These shelves are packed with literature and art books. Take your pick from the collection and perch in the study – with its twisted gold column, hardwood furnishings, and vintage typewriter, you’ll feel every bit the European intellectual. The location of this apartment is great. It’s just a short walk from the Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Cavour, home to Italy’s Supreme Court. You can also visit the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, which are also within walking distance. There’s a range of eateries in the locale, too, for when you want a rest from sightseeing. The bright open-plan living space back at this apartment also sleeps guests five and six on a comfy sofa bed. The main bedroom has an en-suite, while bedroom two has a small double bed. Your hosts are really helpful here as well – they can arrange a variety of services for you to make your stay in Rome super special.

It can't get more central than this – you'll be within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and countless eateries. After a long day on your feet, you'll appreciate the indoor Jacuzzi waiting for you back home. The overall design is contemporary and chic, featuring open-concept bathrooms that ooze luxury (though privacy is, of course, limited). Travelling as a group of six? Upon request, two guests can kip on single beds in the living area, but we think this home is best for four.

Within walking distance, you’ll also find the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi and much more.

Sitting on the right-hand side of the Tiber, the neighbourhood of Trastevere is an inimitable mix of history and character, much like this apartment. The building in which it sits dates back to the 14th century, although you wouldn't be able to guess that age from the fresh design of the interior.

In the main living space, a colour palette of neutrals makes the room feel bright and inviting, while there are brighter tones in the bedrooms that lend a sense of personality. When it comes to dinners, guests are treated to two kitchen spaces — a wooden-panelled room that doubles up as a dining area and an adjoining room with an induction cooker.

If rather than cooking, however, you fancy familiarising yourself with Roman cuisine, there's a huge choice of restaurants in the surrounding area. The city's famous attractions are not too far away, either — the Pantheon takes just over a quarter of an hour on foot to reach, while the Colosseum takes about double that.

The Duchess is a comfortable place with lots going for it, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t start with that view. A city like Rome is full of views, but even so, this one is special, and the terrace itself is beautiful, with the furniture, the awning and the flowers all around (in summer, at least). This, along with the various antiques inside, makes you feel as if you’re in a Rome that existed 200 years ago, one that’s since been lost.

Perfectly positioned in the heart of Rome, this contemporary pad is in a pretty unbeatable location. The city's endless array of restaurants, shops and museums are a short walk away, but that's not the only reason we love this neighbourhood. You can wander to the Trevi Fountain in six minutes, stroll through the tremendous Villa Borghese in ten, and shop for provincial produce in Campo de' Fiori in twenty-five minutes, flat. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying 'when in Rome', doesn't it?

After a busy day of sightseeing, pour yourself a glass of red wine and unwind with some locally-sourced gastronomic goodies in the open-plan living area. Decorated in soft cream shades and featuring sumptuous sofas and traditionally-shuttered windows, the lounge radiates relaxation and charm. The kitchen isn't the biggest in our collection, but it's well-equipped if you're in the mood to rustle up a light breakfast or quick lunch. Meanwhile, the bedrooms are comfortable and cosy – just the ticket following a long afternoon on your feet. We think it's an ideal laid-back getaway in Italy's buzzing capital.

An Evening in Roma

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morning espresso, and comfy sofas around the flatscreen TV in the lounge.

Just a few steps away from the hive of activity that is the Campo de’ Fiori square and its market lies Starry Eyes, a spread-out apartment with ample space for large groups of friends and friends. Despite the home's central location, you'll find peace and quiet here, making it the perfect escape to return to after a day of pizza-fuelled sightseeing. Having said that, you won't have to venture far to discover the treasures of Rome – as you'll be stationed just 500 metres away from Piazza Navona and 600 metres away from the Pantheon.

This apartment is truly in the heart of Rome. A five-minute walk from Piazza Navona and moments away from Campo de' Fiori, this is the place to be if sightseeing is at the top of your to-do list. You'll find plenty to see and do within walking distance, be it shops and eateries or must-visit landmarks. The apartment is on the second floor and lacks a lift, so you'll have to be comfortable climbing stairs. That said, we think it's a great find. A roomy living area provides ample space to relax, dine together, and even work from home. Just note that the second bedroom is a little snug, making it more suitable for one guest.

Tucked into the heart of Trastevere, this home is perfectly located for exploring the city, with trattorias and shops on your doorstep and Gianicolo Hill, the Botanical Gardens and the Vatican all within walking distance. Sure, the traditional style of this apartment, laid out over three floors, may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay. And the cherry on top? It has to be the private terrace. Just the spot for sipping limoncello as you gaze out across the Eternal City after a busy day.

It’s clear that this penthouse is a special place as soon as you open the front door. Every feature of the home has been carefully curated, resulting in an eclectic, yet stylish aesthetic. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

You’ll be a short walk from many of the Eternal City’s main attractions, including Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese. There are also excellent shopping, dining out, and transport options practically on your doorstep. The apartment is contemporary and functional, with high ceilings and a convenient kitchen. At full occupancy, privacy is somewhat limited – two guests will sleep on a sofa bed on the open mezzanine above one of the bedrooms.

A short walk away (350 metres), you’ll find Castel Sant’Angelo and it’s just 750 metres from the endless museums of The Vatican. The second bedroom features a sofa bed, but its access to a private terrace with views of Castel Sant’Angelo is a definite highlight – perfect for enjoying sunset meals and celebratory glasses if Italian wine.
