Each room has its own private bathroom, so it's perfect for a family or a big group of friends. A rarity In Rome, this place also has a parking space. There are even some glimpses of the Vatican City from this abode, or it's a ten-minute ride to this treasure trove of iconic art and architecture. It's a twenty-minute drive to the stunning Trevi Fountain or the Baldo Degli Ubaldi metro station is just a minute away on foot, if you want to explore further. For some peaceful green space, on the other hand – head to Parco di Villa Carpegna with its shady benches and fountains, a mere ten-minute stroll away.

There isn’t much that’s more Italian than a Vespa, and Farobasso has two of them. These are the most eye-catching vintage objects in the apartment, but there are many more - the host has tied the theme together nicely. The entire place has been recently redone, and you can tell from the excellent condition it’s in - the bathrooms in particular feel spotless. However, Farobasso is a way out of the historic centre. It might be well-placed to visit the Vatican, but to get to the Trevi fountain, or the Colosseum, you might be tempted to commandeer one of the scooters.

It's hard to imagine a better location for this smart studio apartment, set equidistance between Rome's majestic Vatican City and the upmarket streets of the Prati district. Get off to a flying start with a coffee to go and a stroll around the Vatican's Museums (eleven minutes on foot) to marvel at some of Italy's most revered artworks. When thoughts turn to food, the bustling streets of Prati (twelve minutes on foot) will easily deliver tasty tapas and a glass of something chilled. Then hop over the river to discover Rome's historic centre (half an hour on foot) – or there's a metro station just three minutes from your door if you'd rather give your feet a rest. And when it's time to escape the crowds, take to the green hills of Parco di Monte Ciocci (ten minutes on foot) to admire panoramic views of St. Peter's Basilica – best seen at sunset. Back at home, while this fresh, modern apartment may be compact, we think it's rather perfectly formed. There's all you could need for a bolthole in the city, including a sleek kitchen space for firing up the coffee pod machine and rustling up some breakfast. This apartment makes a practical base in the Eternal City. It has everything you need to relax and unwind, from a desk for business travellers to a small balcony for sundowners – there's even wallpaper inspired by Italian gardens. There's also a small kitchen, though we think you'll prefer to dine out since Italy is known for its cuisine. Sleeping options are flexible here, as two bedrooms have a single bed and double bed, while the living room has a sofa bed. Location-wise, you're a bit far from the city centre – about twenty minutes by car – but the Vatican is about a fifteen-minute walk away.

Set on one of the main thoroughfares of Prati, this home has a fantastic location, with the Vatican Museums just over ten minutes away on foot. It's the same walking distance to the boutiques in Via Cola di Rienzo, as well as the Trionfale Market with its food and flower stalls. If you want to explore some more of Rome's well-known attractions, take a twenty-minute stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo, with its rooftop views over the city. Back at this home – it's comfortable and well-designed, with a calming colour scheme that is just what you need after a hectic day exploring the city. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the balcony or catch up on some work if need be (it's fully equipped for remote working). However, what really sets it apart is the host Angela, whose willingness to go the extra mile can help ensure you have a truly great experience.

Settle into Roman life at this superb first-floor apartment. This stylish home can be found in the Aurelio neighbourhood of Rome, away from the hectic crowds of the city centre, but still plenty close enough to see the sights. The Baldo degli Ubaldi metro station is 500 metres away, and there’s a bus stop 350 metres away. It takes just seven minutes to reach the Vatican, and eighteen minutes to drive to the Colosseum. The apartment is bright and welcoming, with leafy views that make it a relaxing space to call home.

We can't get enough of this apartment's prime location in the Borgo Vittorio area. Just a five-minute stroll from St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, while being ten minutes on foot from the Ottaviano Metro stop, you'll be all set up for a fuss-free sightseeing trip. Inside, both bedrooms are equipped with en-suite bathrooms which will help to speed mornings along. Just keep in mind that the kitchen lacks an oven or a hob, so it's only suitable for preparing light bites. That said you're in the heart of Italy, so eating out will definitely be on the cards here. It's also worth noting that you'll need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the apartment.

The Vatican is so close you can see the dome of St Peter’s Basilica from the balcony of this apartment. In ten minutes on foot, you can be admiring the endless museums and world-famous Sistine Chapel of the world’s smallest country. 

The apartment itself has a spacious, open-plan living area which is kept bright and light with pure white walls. Vibrant modern artworks add a lively pop of colour at every turn, and the slate-grey sofa sings with neon cushions. The full kitchen in fire-engine-red has everything you need to whip up breakfast, lunch and dinner. In our opinion, the best spot for an evening aperitivo is the private balcony which has an enviable view of St Peter’s Basilica, whose dome rises out from the shambling rooftops and is illuminated at sunset.

Sitting just outside the Vatican City, this apartment makes a great base for an inspiring Roman holiday. From here, you can stroll along the historic walls of the city and you’ll find a great selection of restaurants, cafes and shops within easy reach. There is no private parking available here, but the nearest public transport links are a short walk away. Plus, your host can help organise airport transfers along with a range of extras including a welcome basket and housekeeping. It’s worth noting the apartment is simple, but it’s a sweet option for families and groups in search of ease in a fantastic location. 

Little Vatican

Just outside Vatican City, this apartment offers a fantastic location for exploring Rome. Up on the third floor, you'll have two small balconies with enough space to sit out, and the sofa bed in the living room folds out to sleep two extra guests. At full capacity, there won't be enough seats for everyone at the dining table and the kitchen here is on the smaller side without an oven, but fear not. You'll have a selection of restaurants within walking distance, and public transport is easily accessible from your doorstep for hitting all the city's hotspots.

Housed in a prestigious building, set just footsteps from the Vatican City, this central apartment offers a relaxing stay in the heart of Rome's ancient history. Surrounded by excellent restaurants, friendly café-bars, bookshops and bakeries, this desirable location means you can do most of your sightseeing on foot. Whether you're walking over to the Vatican museums, St Peter's Basilica, or the Colosseum, it's all well within reach. 

Back home, we particularly like the funky wallpaper print in the bedroom, while the contemporary furnishings make for seamless modern living. But the real standout here is, of course, your private terrace, complete with sun loungers, a swing and dome views of St. Peter's. All that's left to do is unpack your bags and spill out onto the terrace for an early-evening aperitivo, before hitting the lively streets below.

The nearest major hotspot is the Vatican City and its array of museums, only a short walk from the apartment. And with the Ottaviano Metro spot just six minutes away on foot, hopping around the city is easy. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable space to relax and a handy kitchenette suitable for preparing light bites. The dining table also doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace for those travelling for business. Just note that two people will be sleeping on the sofa bed if you’re here in a group of four.

Regular visitors to Rome will know that Prati, perched above the Vatican and across the Tiber, is the place to be. Within its wide, sweeping avenues and elegant buildings, there's high-end shopping and cool restaurants aplenty, but less of the crowds. Back at home, you’ll be surprised how spacious and light this home feels, thanks to those lofty, exposed beam ceilings and doors opening out onto a terrace (a rare treat for a property this central).

Perfect for two, this apartment makes a cosy base for your Roman adventure. It's outside the city centre, but with a metro station nearby and plenty to do in the local area, you won't miss out. After all, you're about 2km from the Vatican and less than one from the greenery of Villa Doria Pamphili. Inside, you'll find a sofa bed for guests three and four, a desk for remote working, and a breezy open-plan living area. That said, our favourite feature here is the balcony - we can't think of a better spot to enjoy an alfresco Aperol Spritz.

There are bars, restaurants and shops all within a stone’s throw of the apartment building, and the Lepanto metro station is a mere eight-minute walk away so when you’re ready to see the sights, it’s as easy as can be. 

Start your day by tucking into pastries and coffee on the terrace. There are glorious views of the Vatican, which is just a twenty-four-minute walk away. Watch the streets below come to life while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. After visiting the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, perhaps you’ll stroll to Sant’Angelo Bridge – it’s nineteen minutes away. Decide which of the restaurants you pass you’ll return to for dinner, and definitely indulge in a scoop or two of gelato. 

Depending on your stamina, everything is within walking distance but in those peak summer months, you’ll be grateful for how easy it is to explore on the metro. Notations is fairly simple, but it’s comfortable, and does what it says on the tin. You aren’t going to come across any nasty surprises. The living room’s a decent size, and it’s even got a small balcony (albeit an unfurnished one). This area of the city isn’t quite as evocative as some others, but the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica looms over the streets in an impressive manner.

Plucked straight from your typical Italian reverie comes this picture-perfect home in the heart of papal Rome. Just a thirty-minute wander to the Vatican City and its glorious St. Peter's Basilica, this location is in a quiet and friendly neighbourhood with a local vibe. Back home, it's a real crowd-pleaser, despite not having a conventional lounge seating area. Come together around the reclaimed wood dining table – complete with elegant ghost chairs – and map out the day's tourist itinerary over a hearty breakfast. It's a well-kept, clean and comfortable space with heaps of Italian passion and charm. Walking around the apartment, you'll notice all the bedrooms come with grand four-poster beds and William Morris floral wallpaper prints that we really loved. Last but certainly not least, you'll have access to a private terrace – we could think of nothing better than watching sunsets out here with a glass of Barolo in hand. Plus, your host Giorgia, really has all the traits you’d want from a host – a keen eye for design, a professional attitude, but also a friendly one. If you’re lucky, you might get a little taste of the best wines from Puglia sent over.

This comfortable apartment is located in a palazzo close to the Vatican – you need only walk fifteen minutes to reach St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums. It’s on a quiet street with restaurants nearby, with transport links to the rest of Rome. The apartment has a workspace for those working during their stay, and an attractive open-plan living and dining space. There’s only one bedroom, so at full occupancy, three guests will sleep on sofa beds. We'd recommend a maximum guest count of four.

Set on the third floor, you'll benefit from pleasant views of the lively streets below, while being far removed from the hustle and bustle. Inside, the open-plan layout and colourful decor create a lovely space to hang out and socialise with your group – as long as two guests don't mind sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area.

While you can’t actually see the Vatican walls from Three Stags, turn right out of the door and walk about twenty metres and they’re right there. It’s a great location, which is fitting as it’s a great flat. Rather than seeking to preserve a crumbling old flat, Valeria’s recently redone the whole place, updating it without losing the character of the original place. There’s tonnes of space, given that it only has one bedroom, so having a couple of extra people sleeping in the living room is no problem (though three might be a squeeze).


Three Stags

Offering easy access to the Vatican (just a short walk away), this apartment is perfect placed for an exciting city stay. From here, you can stroll to local cafes, restaurants and shops. You’ll also find great public transport links and if you’re travelling by car, paid parking is available. Wherever the day takes you, this home has everything you could need to switch off and unwind. There is a private terrace and plenty of socialising space both inside and out. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room, but this is a great option for kids. 

The Best of Dolce Vita

Even though it’s actually quite new, Vintage Rosa feels like it could be from the 50s (can you tell from the name?). In a good way, that is – it has a great balance of the old-fashioned aesthetic and modern fittings, so you won’t be stuck with sixty-year-old kitchen appliances. The whole building is run in the space between a hotel and a block of flats, as there’s more than enough to keep you independent, but you also get some extra services included, like cleaning every other day, and a reception during working hours.
