The brick fireplace is probably the best example of this, but we're also big fans of the elegant simplicity of the minimalist, black kitchen. Step out onto the quaint cobbled street outside your home, and you'll find yourself within walking distance of many of Rome's headline sights. Head west over the River Tiber, and within fifteen minutes, you'll be gazing upon Vatican City, the awe-inspiring capital of Christianity. Horse-Drawn feels like a real home. It’s bright and welcoming, and as it’s been designed as a place to live, rather than one to rent, you don’t get the glitches that sometimes pop up in the latter. The understatement on display in this historic house allows some of the warm, textural elements of the design – like the exposed beam ceiling, tiled floors and concrete steps – to sing. Set within a stunning fifteenth-century building, the home is spread over three floors, accessible via a beautiful spiral staircase that eventually emerges in between the three bedrooms up on the second floor. The interior is a largely pared-back affair, with a definite nod to Scandinavian simplicity, but without veering into the impersonal. While the Tiber isn’t actually visible from the front door, but it’s only one street over, and the Castel Sant’Angelo is just a few minutes' walk on the other bank. Elsewhere, you're around five minutes from the ever-popular Piazza Navona and ten to the lively morning market in Campo de' Fiori.

Enjoy a negroni sbagliato cocktail on this home’s sunny terrace, with its views of the rooftops of the Eternal City, located a few metres from Piazza Navona and Castel Sant'Angelo. The Duchess is a comfortable place with lots going for it, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t start with that view. With that in mind, this studio apartment is pretty convenient, at less than a minute away. But if you want to keep busy rather than relaxing with a glass of chianti, you’ll find palaces, museums, and statues all around – such as the Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, two minutes away. However, we feel that this home is somewhat of a landmark itself. As you step inside, you can help but be taken aback by the striking timber ceiling. These thick, rustic beams ooze old-world Italy, transporting you back in time. But with modern twists from minimalist furniture and quirky artworks, there’s an elegant clash of eras which makes this studio feel unique. We love the luxe touches like the marble kitchen sink and bathroom, although your host can provide an even better VIP experience. After being picked up by your private driver from the airport, you might fancy taking up their offer of a wine tasting tour or ride on a classic Vespa.

Right around the corner from the Piazza del Popolo (and the magical views from the Terrazza del Pincio), just an eighteen-minute stroll to the angelic Trevi Fountain and an even easier ten-minute walk to the historic Spanish Steps – this place has convenience and ease written into its rustic wooden doors. Tastefully renovated and furnished, but without losing any of the charm of the structure, the interior is a picture of old and new. It's not often we mention our admiration for scruff marks, but the knocks on the wooden fittings nod to the history of the flat, and by extension, the city, so we really love them. Plenty of modern comforts have been added to offer everything you need for an effortless stay, from rainfall showers to cafetieres, it's all there. And when you're in search of a calming spot to delve into a good book, the third and fourth bedrooms benefitting from soft floral sofas, ornamental lanterns and plenty of natural light pouring in, simply call out for your attention.

This stylish apartment is right around the corner from Termini, Rome's biggest train station, so there's no doubt that the transport links are excellent. But many of the must-see sights can also be reached on foot, including the magnificent Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore five minutes away and The Colosseum just a little further, about a twenty-minute stroll. After fueling up on pasta and gelato at Mercato Centrale Roma across the street, set off for the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and The Spanish Steps, all reachable in under half an hour. We love the bold green colours and funky design – picture cowhide rugs, vibrant pop art and leafy wallpaper in the bedroom. The bathroom is also one of our favourites – it has a huge walk-in rain shower that's the perfect way to relax after a busy day. And this pad has more than enough room for two, so there's plenty of space to make yourself at home. In the evenings, pour yourself an aperitif and rustle up a feast in the contemporary kitchen, then end the night with Netflix in bed, nodding off while to the sound of your favourite shows.

The location of this apartment is great. It’s just a short walk from the Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Cavour, home to Italy’s Supreme Court. You can also visit the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, which are also within walking distance. There’s a range of eateries in the locale, too, for when you want a rest from sightseeing. The bright open-plan living space back at this apartment also sleeps guests five and six on a comfy sofa bed. The main bedroom has an en-suite, while bedroom two has a small double bed.
