With high ceilings, tonnes of space and beautiful floors (both stone and parquet), Centurion Rose eschews flamboyance for a more elegant, sober aesthetic. The flat isn’t particularly bright – Via Palermo outside is narrow, and has high buildings – but there’s enough light to get by, and the street is beautiful enough that we’ll forgive it.

A few minutes’ strolling takes you to the ancient walls of Rome’s most famous sight, and the streets around the apartment are filled with local trattoria, cafes, bars and supermarkets to stock up on supplies. The balcony is furnished with a bistro set for two – perfect for a morning coffee or evening tipple as the sun sets over the rooftops of historic Rome.

We found plenty of things to love about this flat. For a start, the location’s excellent, nestled as it is between Termini and Monti stations.
