Coppedè isn’t the best-known quarter of the city, but it’s something of an undiscovered gem. The buildings, an enthralling mix of art nouveau, Greek classicism, medieval and baroque, were all built around the same time, and designed by the eponymous architect. As a flat, L'Esploratrice lives up to the area’s reputation for upmarket homes. It’s set over two floors, and retains many of the original, early-twentieth-century features – like the granite floors and carved wooden door frames.

It seems beside the point to say that Lapis Lazuli isn’t in the city centre – it’s a destination itself. This is one of the most spectacular places in our collection, with every luxury imaginable, from pool, to sauna, to games room, to a working fireplace. The bedrooms are the least exciting part – they’re functional rather than eye-catching, but that’s probably just because the rest of the house is so incredible.

The kitchen has all you need to rustle up antipasti and light bites, while the living space is just the spot to kick back after sightseeing. You’ll immediately be struck by the dazzling amount of natural light in the living area, thanks to the large glass doors that open up onto the first of two terraces. This first one – off of the living room – is a whopping 538 square feet and boasts several tables and chairs, a covered seating area as well as an outdoor shower to enjoy. This is the ideal spot to congregate at sundown over aperitifs and alfresco meals, while the second terrace – up the flight of stairs in the living room – is a rooftop haven with its sun chairs and equally majestic rooftop vistas, ideal for catching those Italian afternoon rays. Back inside, the two bedrooms are simple yet elegant, offering dreamy canvases for a blissful night’s sleep. It can't get more central than this – you'll be within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, Villa Borghese, and countless eateries. After a long day on your feet, you'll appreciate the indoor Jacuzzi waiting for you back home. The overall design is contemporary and chic, featuring open-concept bathrooms that ooze luxury (though privacy is, of course, limited). Travelling as a group of six? Upon request, two guests can kip on single beds in the living area, but we think this home is best for four.

Step into the Art Nouveau sunroom of this period apartment and just soak up its vintage style and warm character. Surrounded by extraordinary windows – some frosted for privacy, others with stained glass – along with huge houseplants and antique furnishings, it's a striking space. Read on the sofa or linger over coffee at the dining table in the morning light. Overlooking a lush garden, it's certainly the highlight of the home. But there's plenty more to love about this place. Small, but perfectly functional, the kitchen leads to a hallway and a snug TV room with its own dining table. The pretty master bedroom is beautifully decorated, with plenty of storage and a desk, while the ensuite second bedroom has its own desk and a fabulous tiled floor. There's even the option of adding a cot if you're travelling as a family. With such easy access around the city from this spot, you'll be surprised how peaceful and quiet it is – yet it's surrounded by excellent shops and restaurants and it's just a fifteen-minute walk from the Colosseum.

For the location, you're surrounded by local authenticity and just a seven-minute walk to the emblematic Colosseum. Back home, we think there's somewhat of a contemporary Scandi feel, with plain bedspreads, pared-back furnishings and white shelved walls. Modern and minimalist, you'll also notice the elegant marble floors, quirky wallpaper prints and low-hanging light bulbs that we really loved.

Get off to a flying start just around the corner at Piazza Navona (three minutes on foot) –⁠ one of the city’s most famous squares and 'the spot' for an evening aperitivo. And when thoughts turn to food, you’re spoilt for choice here –⁠ with bustling coffee bars, authentic trattorias, and high-end restaurants all just a short jaunt from your door. Back at home, this apartment makes quite a first impression with its grand, period exterior and a spiraling internal staircase leading to your door. The décor pairs contemporary furnishings alongside period features, including exposed original brickwork and timber-clad ceilings of high and mighty proportions. And despite its prime central location, our guests love how quiet this home feels –⁠ particularly in the bedrooms, which overlook a peaceful internal courtyard. Despite its position in an old, atmospheric square near Campo de’ Fiori, Falconry has been renovated recently, and most of the furniture has been made to measure, making the whole place feel very well crafted. Everything fits together, from the parquet floor to the various lamps, and even the terrace is taken care of, and not an afterthought. This apartment may be in the heart of Rome, but there’s something distinctly country-chic about the decor. Period pieces – dressers, doors and the kitchen table – are all rough white-washed and feel rustic. The sound system is vintage, and the armchairs in the living room are upholstered in gloriously kitsch floral patterns. The jewel in the crown of the apartment is the sprawling outdoor terrace, which has sofas in sunny spots for a dose of vitamin D, and shaded nooks under parasols for when the heat gets too much. The bamboo pergola covered a couple of outdoor gas hobs, so you can cook and dine alfresco. Flowers and pot plants bloom for every corner and climb trellises for a bit of privacy. If you want to know just how central you are, just head out to the downstairs balcony and spot the Colosseum at the end of your street.

Just around the corner from the Spanish Steps, this plush little apartment is the perfect getaway to Rome. Walk just two minutes and you’re on Via Condotti, with its famed luxury shops and boutiques, running all the way to the Piazza di Spagna. You’re also within easy walking distance of the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and buzzing Piazza Navona. 

Apart from its super central location, this apartment has lots going for it. Natural light fills the living room from traditional old windows. From here, you can watch the world go by on your classically Roman street. Herringbone floors and high ceilings keep things feeling grand, and the palette of greys and teals makes for a soothing spot to return to after a day in the city. We love the enclosed balcony, where a dining area is surrounded on all sides by glass – the perfect sunny breakfast spot. There’s also a tiny terrace that catches rays of sunshine in the middle of the day, painted sunshine-yellow and set up with a bistro table.

This stylish apartment is right around the corner from Termini, Rome's biggest train station, so there's no doubt that the transport links are excellent. But many of the must-see sights can also be reached on foot, including the magnificent Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore five minutes away and The Colosseum just a little further, about a twenty-minute stroll. After fueling up on pasta and gelato at Mercato Centrale Roma across the street, set off for the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and The Spanish Steps, all reachable in under half an hour. When you're not off exploring, shopping or sipping Italian wine at one of the bars in this area, rest your tired feet back at home. We love the bold green colours and funky design – picture cowhide rugs, vibrant pop art and leafy wallpaper in the bedroom. The bathroom is also one of our favourites – it has a huge walk-in rain shower that's the perfect way to relax after a busy day. And this pad has more than enough room for two, so there's plenty of space to make yourself at home. In the evenings, pour yourself an aperitif and rustle up a feast in the contemporary kitchen, then end the night with Netflix in bed, nodding off while to the sound of your favourite shows.

Tucked between Piazza di Spagna and the Villa Borghese, you couldn't ask for a better spot to base yourself during your Roman holiday. The cobbled street outside is utterly charming, and even with the crowds milling about a few hundred metres away, it's quite peaceful. The sprawling Villa Borghese is just five minutes away – it's an absolute must-visit, home to lush greenery, city views and beautiful sculptures, plus it's where you'll find the Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre and Museo Pietro Canonica. You're also not far from other tourist attractions – the Spanish Steps are a ten-minute walk, while the Pantheon is reachable in twenty. Inside, the apartment is bright and roomy, with a sleek kitchen and two cosy sofas that you'll want to sink into after a busy. We particularly liked the beautiful artwork of local sights that adorn the walls, and there's even a delicious restaurant downstairs when you don't feel like cooking. End your evenings on the private terrace – just pour yourself a glass of wine and relax as the sun goes down, basking in the magic of Rome.

Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight (and ten, at a stretch) in the Jewish Quarter isn’t as straightforward as you might think. Finding somewhere that can comfortably sleep eight and has a view as good as Teatro’s is even harder. It looks down onto the Largo di Torre Argentina, which holds the ruins of four temples and Pompey’s Theatre. It’s a fantastic spot, and Teatro makes the most of it, with a simple design intended to not interfere.

Finding a street close to it all but not inundated with tourists is the holy grail in Rome – and that's precisely where you'll find this apartment. We call it the Goldilocks zone. But, ever the professional, your host Michele hasn’t used that as an excuse to rest on his laurels. The flat itself is in perfect condition, and while it doesn’t have the feeling of a family home, that’s often a good thing when it's not a sprawling home with space for all the host's personal items. The two bedrooms are on opposite sides of the flat, which is perfect for groups of friends travelling together, though families might want little ones closer by, or not. We understand. Sandwiched between the river and lively Campo de' Fiori, you're in a prime location to explore the city. The square is home to the city's most vibrant (and occasionally overpriced) street market (Monday-Saturday mornings). Still, this famous foodie haven is a good place to stock up on fresh produce, just a five-minute walk from your apartment. Cross over the stone footbridge, Ponte Sisto, and within a couple of minutes, you'll be immersed in trendy Trastevere. With its cobbled streets lined with charmingly faded facades, innovative trattorias, and craft cocktail bars, there's plenty to keep you occupied well into the night.


Tales From The Riverbank

The Duchess is a comfortable place with lots going for it, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t start with that view. A city like Rome is full of views, but even so, this one is special, and the terrace itself is beautiful, with the furniture, the awning and the flowers all around (in summer, at least). This, along with the various antiques inside, makes you feel as if you’re in a Rome that existed 200 years ago, one that’s since been lost. 


The Duchess

This modern apartment boasts an excellent location in Rome – it’s just a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps. You’ll be a short walk from many of the Eternal City’s main attractions, including Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese. There are also excellent shopping, dining out, and transport options practically on your doorstep. The apartment is contemporary and functional, with high ceilings and a convenient kitchen. At full occupancy, privacy is somewhat limited – two guests will sleep on a sofa bed on the open mezzanine above one of the bedrooms. 

Seconds from the Steps

Neighbouring the high-end boutiques along Via del Babuino, this apartment puts many of Rome's famous landmarks at your fingertips. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza del Popolo – you name it, chances are you can walk to it. During downtime, head home for a quick bite to eat or a catnap in the comfortable bed. The place is modern and functional, with all the essentials you'll need. Just note that two people will sleep on a sofa bed in the living area.

Roman Simplicity

Deep within the narrow, medieval streets of Rome, this period building hides a surprisingly modern apartment for up to five guests. It's not a huge space but it's been cleverly configured to make the most of what it has – and to make it feel comfortable and high-end at the same time. Decorated in on-trend whites, creams and greys, it's bright and fresh. The kitchenette is stowed away in a cupboard-like space in the living room and while it's perfect for the basics, it's not going to appeal to keen home cooks – but this is Rome, and some of the best restaurants, cafes and bars in the world are right on your doorstep. Our favourite feature of this home is the view onto the charming Piazza dei Satiri outside. And while we're talking location, the famous Campo de’ Fiori market is just around the corner.


Pan's Place

Brilliantly situated in Monti, one of Rome's most ancient neighbourhoods, this top-floor apartment is truly something special. There's no question that the private terrace is the crown jewel of the place. With a charming bistro table and an abundance of sunshine, it's the perfect spot to start the morning with an espresso and a pastry – and of course, end the evening with a bottle of Italian wine as the world passes by below you. 

Elsewhere, you'll find two quaint Juliet balconies – not ideal for sitting, but the view of the bustling street below is as Roman as it gets. The rest of the apartment is filled with light, packed with character and super stylish. Curl up on the cream-coloured sofa and watch a flick on Netflix, rustle up homecooked pasta in the kitchen and work from home at the desk in the second bedroom. There's more than enough space here to spread out and make yourself at home.

And the options for exploring are endless. The forum and the Colosseum are less than a ten-minute walk away – and there's plenty more sightseeing where that came from. Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore is also within walking distance and two metro lines are nearby for when you fancy visiting landmarks further into the city. Or just stay local and wine and dine the night away at the restaurants, cafes and bars on your doorstep, including a delicious gelateria right downstairs for some quintessentially Italian gelato.

Visiting Rome is always an excellent idea, and staying in this apartment makes a visit to the Eternal City all the better. It’s a convenient, practical base – you’ll have a kitchen to cook in, plenty of space to unwind, and desks in the bedrooms. At full occupancy, two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the communal living space. There are two double bedrooms and a suite with its own living area, perfect for those seeking more privacy. The apartment is just a few minutes on foot from Villa Borghese, a dreamy spot for a morning stroll.

This lovely home also makes for a great base for exploring the rest of the city – you’re right in the thick of things, so you can easily visit all of Rome’s hotspots on foot. Trastevere and its fabulous nightlife are just a few minutes' walk, as are Piazza Venezia and Piazza Navona.

The apartment itself is a stunningly good find. It’s spacious and bright, decorated in classic Italian style using only the finest furniture. There’s something to admire in every corner, whether it’s the pull-down cocktail bar in the living room, or the antique wooden beams. Sit on the patio set with an afternoon bottle of wine, or sprawl out on a lounger with a good novel – you’ll have a pretty view of the surrounding pastel buildings and plenty of sunshine. Inside, the apartment is just as lovely – a bright, tastefully decorated space with designer furniture and carefully selected artworks.
