With the Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, and even the Roman Forum all within walking distance, this four-bedroom apartment couldn’t be in a better spot for sightseeing. You’ll be right in the heart of historic Rome, but it’s not just the location we love about this home. The apartment is bright and spacious, spread over two floors at the top of a charming old building. There’s plenty of space to spread out, including a well-appointed kitchen and separate dining room, plus a living area that opens onto a sunny terrace (a real treat in the centre of the city). The only downside is there’s no lift, however being up high means you’re rewarded with glorious views of the Roman rooftops.

The understatement on display in this historic house allows some of the warm, textural elements of the design – like the exposed beam ceiling, tiled floors and concrete steps – to sing. Set within a stunning fifteenth-century building, the home is spread over three floors, accessible via a beautiful spiral staircase that eventually emerges in between the three bedrooms up on the second floor. The interior is a largely pared-back affair, with a definite nod to Scandinavian simplicity, but without veering into the impersonal. While the Tiber isn’t actually visible from the front door, but it’s only one street over, and the Castel Sant’Angelo is just a few minutes' walk on the other bank. Elsewhere, you're around five minutes from the ever-popular Piazza Navona and ten to the lively morning market in Campo de' Fiori.

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Parchment Scrolls oozes classical Roman style. There’s a wonderful mix of antique elements, like the ceiling beams or the painted doors, and more modern fittings that give it a sense of balance. It’s also in a fantastic position, in the cobblestone lanes of Ponte, and right opposite the grand Church of San Biagio. All of these blessings manage to outweigh the only real problem, which is the second bathroom. It doesn’t have the best ventilation, and the shower is only 190cm high, but we think that it’s forgivable given the rest of the space.

This apartment sits within a former palace on one of central Rome’s ancient streets. A short walk away (350 metres), you’ll find Castel Sant’Angelo and it’s just 750 metres from the endless museums of The Vatican. It’s split across two levels and, upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a lavish living room with picture-perfect views. The second bedroom features a sofa bed, but its access to a private terrace with views of Castel Sant’Angelo is a definite highlight – perfect for enjoying sunset meals and celebratory glasses if Italian wine.

It's all about location and traditional charm with this Rome apartment, as it's set next to Piazza Navona – famous for its Baroque buildings and fountains. As for the charm, you'll find it in everything from the wooden beams of the ceilings to the original 16th-century spiral staircase that takes you up to the apartment. Granted, there's no lift, but if you're happy to climb up to the second floor, then the central location is more than worth it.

St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City is under twenty minutes on foot. The place itself is quite small (especially if four guests stay here), but we’re willing to look past that as it’s just so charming.

Location, location, location! This apartment is a perfect base for exploring the very best of the Eternal City. Your Roman retreat is right in the heart of the historical centre, on a beautiful cobbled street no more than a fifteen-minute amble away from Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Navona, and charming Trastevere. Perhaps most importantly, you're just off Via Giulia – a roughly half-mile-long cobbled street that's lined from end to end with beautiful churches, elegant palazzi, maze-like antique shops, and some of the fanciest homes in Rome. It's also well-equipped with eateries – I Sofà Bar Restaurant & Roof Terrace is set to impress with great views and even better food or you can rub shoulders with Rome's great and good at specialist seafood establishment Assunta Madre. If the idea of a quiet night in appeals, the high-end appliances in the kitchen have got you covered, while the home cinema in the double room is ideal for watching legendary Fellini films from the comfort of your bed.

While some elements of this home are a little dated, everything functions well, and the place is clean and comfortable. Just a heads up, the street below can get noisy at times, so we recommend packing earplugs if you’re easily awoken.

Location is where Noon Herald sets itself apart. It’s at the centre of a triangle that has the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and Trastevere as its points. The other big draw is the structure of the flat, with a double-height ceiling and the sloping beams – these help balance out the slightly spartan furniture elsewhere. It would be a good place for someone who is more used to hotels, as there are several services that are more commonly associated with them, such as daily bed turning and clean towels on request.


Noon Herald

Located in a narrow street between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Navona, Kalos is a great home if you want to explore Rome on foot. The insides of this home are immaculate and in spite of mixing several different styles, they create an atmosphere of comfort and luxury. You'll get a beautiful view of the city's skyline from the windows, and if you like an alfresco coffee in the morning, Kalos boasts not one, but two balconies. Take note –three of the five guests will be sleeping in the master bedroom without privacy between the two beds.

In Rome, there’s a tendency for hosts to put less effort into their interiors the more central their home is. The logic says that people will come anyway. And for the most part, they're right. However, this is absolutely not the case with this stunning apartment. It might be on one of the most beautiful streets in the city, but you can tell how much care your host, Giacomo, has put into the design – both from an aesthetic perspective and a practical one. These are small things, like choosing materials that are easy to maintain but keep a bit of character. The brick fireplace is probably the best example of this, but we're also big fans of the elegant simplicity of the minimalist, black kitchen. Step out onto the quaint cobbled street outside your home, and you'll find yourself within walking distance of many of Rome's headline sights. Head west over the River Tiber, and within fifteen minutes, you'll be gazing upon Vatican City, the awe-inspiring capital of Christianity. Closer to home, you're a mere five-minute walk from Piazza Navona. The picturesque square buzzes with activity at all hours of the day and night.

Not far from Campo de' Fiori and other landmarks, this apartment's location is spot-on. Being so central, there's a chance for noise, but we think it's worth the trade to be in the heart of the action. Space is a little tight with the double sofa bed in use, but you'll likely have minimal downtime if sightseeing is your priority. It's worth noting that the bedroom doesn't have an actual door – just a curtain – and that the kitchen is compact. But that aside, the contemporary finishes and prime position make this a great choice for a Roman getaway.

Looking for a central stay in the Eternal City? This apartment sure fits the bill. You'll find it just a short walk from Piazza Navona, putting landmarks, shops, and restaurants at your fingertips. At full capacity, five guests will be on a collection of sofa beds in both the living area and bedroom. If you'd prefer privacy, we think a guest count of four is best. Still, the rustic design is packed with character, and the super convenient location more than makes up for its compact layout.

Nirvana in Navona

This apartment is truly in the heart of Rome. A five-minute walk from Piazza Navona and moments away from Campo de' Fiori, this is the place to be if sightseeing is at the top of your to-do list. You'll find plenty to see and do within walking distance, be it shops and eateries or must-visit landmarks. The apartment is on the second floor and lacks a lift, so you'll have to be comfortable climbing stairs. That said, we think it's a great find. A roomy living area provides ample space to relax, dine together, and even work from home. Just note that the second bedroom is a little snug, making it more suitable for one guest.

From Dusk Herald, the Vatican, Piazza Navona and Trastevere are all easily reachable on foot. You’ve also got the Tiber just around the corner – it’s hard to overstate just how well-placed the flat is. Inside it’s simple, but with a pretty wooden ceiling upstairs, and lots of light. The kitchen is a little beige, but we did like the geometric wallpaper. We also noticed a lot of birdsong coming through the windows, which added a lovely, bucolic feel to the place.

And if the location doesn't win you over, the outside space surely will. You'll find not one but two sun-kissed terraces here – both ideal spots for evening aperitifs and alfresco meals. Inside Italian charm abounds, from original terracotta floors to low beamed ceilings. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed, while the smaller bedroom is best for little ones. From the striking fortress of the Castel Sant'Angelo, founded during the second century, history is on the cards within a short walk in any direction. As you cross the elegant bridge over the Tiber, heading towards the bustling streets of Campo de’ Fiori, the presence of history and old-world wonder is palpable. And on this seven-minute route to your apartment, awe continues at home.

Arriving at this traditional 'via', the orange block stands out against the green leaves of the desert-like foliage lining the street. But while the exterior has a fairly understated facade, this is what really allows for the decor to pop. We recommend pouring yourself a glass of primitivo while you take a look around.

High ceilings, art in gilded frames adorning the walls, floral accents, and a shimmering chandelier create a sense of Italian opulence. But we love the quirkiness from the enourmous painting of a tiger and the trompe l'oeil marble fireplace – painted by the creative owner of this home. Take the rest of the bottle out to the sunny balcony, where you can peer out to the inner courtyard while the trees gently rustle in the breeze.

Marble Illusion

Once owned by famous painter Albert Jill, this apartment lies in the heart of Rome. The decor is a bit dated and children and toddlers aren't permitted, but we think friends or families with older children will settle right in. The wi-fi isn't the strongest in all rooms so it's perhaps not the best for remote working, but Jill's unique art adorns the walls and the location is wonderful. You'll be on a quiet cobblestone street, but you may still hear some non-disruptive outside noise from the city. Within walking distance, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, with public transport nearby for getting around.

Artist's Haven

It’s clear that this penthouse is a special place as soon as you open the front door. Every feature of the home has been carefully curated, resulting in an eclectic, yet stylish aesthetic. There's a traditional air here, thanks to the sumptuous velvet sofa and the rustic wooden shutters, but there’s a real sense of fun to be found in the whimsical animal lamps and pretty patterned wallpaper. The annexe gives you some extra space to enjoy, and the roof terrace is an unusual but very welcome feature in the centre of the city. You'll love admiring the gorgeous views across the rooftops as you sip your morning coffee and nibble a croissant kindly provided by your host. They will provide basic cooking ingredients, such as oil and spices, but you'd rather eat out, then you are spoilt for choice in this pocket of Rome, with all the pizza and pasta restaurants you could dream of. The Piazza Navona is just a few steps away, while the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain are both within a ten-minute walk. And, when you're finished exploring the eternal city, a luxurious four-poster bed awaits – it doesn't get much better than this.

Everything about Kalos Charm feels luxurious, from the velvet upholstery to the elegant bathrooms. It’s also in a fantastic position, between Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna – two of the most famous squares in the city. And while it’s a decent size, and can hold four people, Maurizio and Fabio have a few other places in the same building, so a larger group could look into renting out more than one at a time. 


Kalos Charm

In the heart of the historic Rione Ponte neighbourhood, this apartment puts all of Rome's must-sees at your fingertips. Whether you want to visit Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, or St. Peter's Basilica, it's no problem – they're all about a ten-minute walk away. Back home, the double sofa bed offers flexibility if you're travelling in a larger group. The design is contemporary rather than charming, but the Juliet balcony is a nice, traditional touch (and the view is quintessentially Roman). While the kitchen is small, you'll find plenty of delicious eateries nearby – the climb up to the third floor is a great way to burn off all that pasta.

Habitat has a lot going for it. Beyond the incredible location (Via di Monserrato is considered one of the most beautiful streets in the city), it’s in good condition, has high ceilings, excellent parquet floors, and whitewashed ceiling beams. The kitchen brings the average down a little – you wouldn’t want to plan on cooking a dinner party in there – but apart from that, it’s a very comfortable, practical flat.

The palazzo that houses this apartment is something to behold. It's a wonderfully historic building that backs onto a little square and housed renowned American expressionist painter Cy Twombly for a good part of his later life. Once inside, the apartment is simple and traditional but elegant. There are plenty of eye-catching original features on display, including the stunning exposed beam ceiling and open fireplace, It lacks the personal effects of a lived-in home, which will appeal to those who tend to find Roman apartments on the busy side, but your hosts made your comfort their number one priority – the beds (and linens in particular) feel very luxurious and make getting up in the morning that little bit trickier. Explore the labyrinth of streets and you'll find yourself a few minutes' walk from the River Tiber, a five-minute stroll from Piazza Campo de' Fiori and 550 metres from the stunning Piazza Navona.

There's much more than meets the eye when it comes to this Roman retreat. Behind its historic facade lies a striking modern apartment over two levels, recently renovated and so quirky you'll want to start taking photos before you've unpacked. Location-wise, it couldn't get much better, with Piazza Navona and the Pantheon within an easy ten-minute walk. You'll enter through a traditional shared courtyard, bursting with historic features, but as soon as you open the front door you'll spot the complex, architect-designed interior – complete with structural steels, a clever mezzanine level in the building's loft and all sorts of surprising features. Think glass sections in the mezzanine floor, a metal staircase, studio workspace, angular windows and space-age lighting. But it's practical too, with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay.

With arresting views of Castel Sant'Angelo, and completely surrounded by some of the most iconic tourist attractions, this home is a must for anyone looking to explore all that Rome has to offer. A ten minute walk across Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II – a historic bridge originally built to connect the city of Rome to the Vatican – and the River Tiber, will take you straight to the renaissance St. Peter's Basilica. Speaking of renaissance, there’s also a Leonardo DaVince experience at his dedicated museum a six-minute walk away. With plenty more on your doorstep, including cafes and restaurants that are perfect for not only sampling local cuisine, but also observing the Italian lifestyle, you won’t find yourself short on things to do. 

Even though beauty can be found wherever you go out on the streets of Rome, the home itself has a fair share to offer as well. Out on the terrace, we encourage you to watch the sunrise over the castle, and city beyond, from the comfort of the hammock, and when you’re not dining out, every meal can be enjoyed alfresco. There’s also a long balcony, adorned with begonias and geraniums, that you can hunker down on when you need some time for yourself. Spread over two floors, and with plenty of outdoor space, there’ll be more than enough room from everyone to claim a nook, albeit for reading, cooking, sketching, or catching up on series.
