This apartment is truly in the heart of Rome. A five-minute walk from Piazza Navona and moments away from Campo de' Fiori, this is the place to be if sightseeing is at the top of your to-do list. You'll find plenty to see and do within walking distance, be it shops and eateries or must-visit landmarks. The apartment is on the second floor and lacks a lift, so you'll have to be comfortable climbing stairs. That said, we think it's a great find. A roomy living area provides ample space to relax, dine together, and even work from home. Just note that the second bedroom is a little snug, making it more suitable for one guest.

Parchment Scrolls oozes classical Roman style. There’s a wonderful mix of antique elements, like the ceiling beams or the painted doors, and more modern fittings that give it a sense of balance. It’s also in a fantastic position, in the cobblestone lanes of Ponte, and right opposite the grand Church of San Biagio. All of these blessings manage to outweigh the only real problem, which is the second bathroom. It doesn’t have the best ventilation, and the shower is only 190cm high, but we think that it’s forgivable given the rest of the space.

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. While some elements of this home are a little dated, everything functions well, and the place is clean and comfortable. Just a heads up, the street below can get noisy at times, so we recommend packing earplugs if you’re easily awoken.

The palazzo that houses this apartment is something to behold. It's a wonderfully historic building that backs onto a little square and housed renowned American expressionist painter Cy Twombly for a good part of his later life. Once inside, the apartment is simple and traditional but elegant. There are plenty of eye-catching original features on display, including the stunning exposed beam ceiling and open fireplace, It lacks the personal effects of a lived-in home, which will appeal to those who tend to find Roman apartments on the busy side, but your hosts made your comfort their number one priority – the beds (and linens in particular) feel very luxurious and make getting up in the morning that little bit trickier. Explore the labyrinth of streets and you'll find yourself a few minutes' walk from the River Tiber, a five-minute stroll from Piazza Campo de' Fiori and 550 metres from the stunning Piazza Navona.

Once owned by famous painter Albert Jill, this apartment lies in the heart of Rome. The decor is a bit dated and children and toddlers aren't permitted, but we think friends or families with older children will settle right in. The wi-fi isn't the strongest in all rooms so it's perhaps not the best for remote working, but Jill's unique art adorns the walls and the location is wonderful. You'll be on a quiet cobblestone street, but you may still hear some non-disruptive outside noise from the city. Within walking distance, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain, with public transport nearby for getting around.

In Rome, there’s a tendency for hosts to put less effort into their interiors the more central their home is. The logic says that people will come anyway. And for the most part, they're right. However, this is absolutely not the case with this stunning apartment. It might be on one of the most beautiful streets in the city, but you can tell how much care your host, Giacomo, has put into the design – both from an aesthetic perspective and a practical one. These are small things, like choosing materials that are easy to maintain but keep a bit of character. The brick fireplace is probably the best example of this, but we're also big fans of the elegant simplicity of the minimalist, black kitchen. Step out onto the quaint cobbled street outside your home, and you'll find yourself within walking distance of many of Rome's headline sights. Head west over the River Tiber, and within fifteen minutes, you'll be gazing upon Vatican City, the awe-inspiring capital of Christianity. Closer to home, you're a mere five-minute walk from Piazza Navona. The picturesque square buzzes with activity at all hours of the day and night.

It’s clear that this penthouse is a special place as soon as you open the front door. Every feature of the home has been carefully curated, resulting in an eclectic, yet stylish aesthetic. There's a traditional air here, thanks to the sumptuous velvet sofa and the rustic wooden shutters, but there’s a real sense of fun to be found in the whimsical animal lamps and pretty patterned wallpaper. The Piazza Navona is just a few steps away, while the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain are both within a ten-minute walk. And, when you're finished exploring the eternal city, a luxurious four-poster bed awaits – it doesn't get much better than this.

A short stroll from Campo de’ Fiori and Piazza Navona, this apartment is perfectly located for exploring Rome. It’s ideal for a family that won’t mind the sleeping arrangements, with one guest sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room and one sleeping on an additional sofa bed in the main bedroom. Given its third-floor position, you’ll all need to be able to climb stairs – and you might want to travel light. The exposed wooden beams and traditional decor make this a charming base for seeing the sights of the Eternal City.

A short walk away (350 metres), you’ll find Castel Sant’Angelo and it’s just 750 metres from the endless museums of The Vatican. The second bedroom features a sofa bed, but its access to a private terrace with views of Castel Sant’Angelo is a definite highlight – perfect for enjoying sunset meals and celebratory glasses if Italian wine.

You’ve also got the Tiber just around the corner – it’s hard to overstate just how well-placed the flat is. Inside it’s simple, but with a pretty wooden ceiling upstairs, and lots of light. The kitchen is a little beige, but we did like the geometric wallpaper. We also noticed a lot of birdsong coming through the windows, which added a lovely, bucolic feel to the place.

Looking for a central stay in the Eternal City? This apartment sure fits the bill. You'll find it just a short walk from Piazza Navona, putting landmarks, shops, and restaurants at your fingertips. At full capacity, five guests will be on a collection of sofa beds in both the living area and bedroom. If you'd prefer privacy, we think a guest count of four is best. Still, the rustic design is packed with character, and the super convenient location more than makes up for its compact layout.

Everything about Kalos Charm feels luxurious, from the velvet upholstery to the elegant bathrooms. It’s also in a fantastic position, between Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna – two of the most famous squares in the city. And while it’s a decent size, and can hold four people, Maurizio and Fabio have a few other places in the same building, so a larger group could look into renting out more than one at a time. 


Kalos Charm

Not far from Campo de' Fiori and other landmarks, this apartment's location is spot-on. Being so central, there's a chance for noise, but we think it's worth the trade to be in the heart of the action. Space is a little tight with the double sofa bed in use, but you'll likely have minimal downtime if sightseeing is your priority. It's worth noting that the bedroom doesn't have an actual door – just a curtain – and that the kitchen is compact. But that aside, the contemporary finishes and prime position make this a great choice for a Roman getaway.

Enjoy a negroni sbagliato cocktail on this home’s sunny terrace, with its views of the rooftops of the Eternal City, located a few metres from Piazza Navona and Castel Sant'Angelo. Housed in a historic 1600s building, this apartment has charming, whitewashed beams, herringbone wood floors and plenty of natural light. We adore the egg-shaped bath in the ensuite, perfect for a long, luxurious soak after exploring all that Rome has to offer.

There’s so much to see within a short walk. Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Angelo Bridge and Piazza Navona are all five minutes on foot, while the Pantheon is ten minutes. If you fancy a spot of shopping, Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is an eight-minute saunter. A little further on, St. Peter's Basilica and the Trevi Fountain are both around fifteen minutes. The Vatican Museums and the Roman Forum, on the other hand, are a twenty-five-minute stroll (or a ten-minute ride).

A ten minute walk across Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II – a historic bridge originally built to connect the city of Rome to the Vatican – and the River Tiber, will take you straight to the renaissance St. Peter's Basilica. Speaking of renaissance, there’s also a Leonardo DaVince experience at his dedicated museum a six-minute walk away. With plenty more on your doorstep, including cafes and restaurants that are perfect for not only sampling local cuisine, but also observing the Italian lifestyle, you won’t find yourself short on things to do. 

Even though beauty can be found wherever you go out on the streets of Rome, the home itself has a fair share to offer as well. Out on the terrace, we encourage you to watch the sunrise over the castle, and city beyond, from the comfort of the hammock, and when you’re not dining out, every meal can be enjoyed alfresco. There’s also a long balcony, adorned with begonias and geraniums, that you can hunker down on when you need some time for yourself. Spread over two floors, and with plenty of outdoor space, there’ll be more than enough room from everyone to claim a nook, albeit for reading, cooking, sketching, or catching up on series.

Perhaps most importantly, you're just off Via Giulia – a roughly half-mile-long cobbled street that's lined from end to end with beautiful churches, elegant palazzi, maze-like antique shops, and some of the fanciest homes in Rome. It's also well-equipped with eateries – I Sofà Bar Restaurant & Roof Terrace is set to impress with great views and even better food or you can rub shoulders with Rome's great and good at specialist seafood establishment Assunta Madre. If the idea of a quiet night in appeals, the high-end appliances in the kitchen have got you covered, while the home cinema in the double room is ideal for watching legendary Fellini films from the comfort of your bed.

From its beamed ceilings to the original carved stone cubby window in the master bedroom, the building’s past blends beautifully with modern comforts to create a comfortable, stylish stay. We love the main room’s frescoed lilies and the stone arches above the doorways. Our favourite feature, however, is the private terrace where a table and chairs invite alfresco breakfasts over espressos and sunset spritzes before a night out in one of the countless trattorias in your Navona neighbourhood. Speaking of your surroundings, you couldn’t be better placed to visit some of Rome’s most famous sights, including the Piazza Navona (a four-minute walk), the Pantheon (a ten-minute walk) and the Trevi Fountain (a fifteen-minute stroll from your door). The Vatican too is within easy reach, just a twenty-minute walk away across the nearby Tiber River.  


Roman Holiday

There's much more than meets the eye when it comes to this Roman retreat. Behind its historic facade lies a striking modern apartment over two levels, recently renovated and so quirky you'll want to start taking photos before you've unpacked. Location-wise, it couldn't get much better, with Piazza Navona and the Pantheon within an easy ten-minute walk. You'll enter through a traditional shared courtyard, bursting with historic features, but as soon as you open the front door you'll spot the complex, architect-designed interior – complete with structural steels, a clever mezzanine level in the building's loft and all sorts of surprising features. Think glass sections in the mezzanine floor, a metal staircase, studio workspace, angular windows and space-age lighting. But it's practical too, with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay.   

The Spaceship

Location is where Noon Herald sets itself apart. It’s at the centre of a triangle that has the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and Trastevere as its points. The other big draw is the structure of the flat, with a double-height ceiling and the sloping beams – these help balance out the slightly spartan furniture elsewhere. It would be a good place for someone who is more used to hotels, as there are several services that are more commonly associated with them, such as daily bed turning and clean towels on request.


Noon Herald

Habitat has a lot going for it. Beyond the incredible location (Via di Monserrato is considered one of the most beautiful streets in the city), it’s in good condition, has high ceilings, excellent parquet floors, and whitewashed ceiling beams. The kitchen brings the average down a little – you wouldn’t want to plan on cooking a dinner party in there – but apart from that, it’s a very comfortable, practical flat.


Habitat

Portal doesn’t try to do anything out of the ordinary. Rather, it takes the basics of a good flat and ensures that they are all spot on. The end result is a bright flat, with high ceilings, some original features and decent furniture. The acrylic Kartell chairs contrast nicely with the largely traditional vibe, and while the kitchen could stand to be redone, it’s still functional. Finally, it’s worth mentioning how fantastic the location is. Both Campo de’ Fiori market and Piazza Navona are nearby, and the streets are an excellent example of the city’s medieval architecture.


Portal

This historic home in the centre of the Italian capital offers an authentic Roman experience, with original terracotta floors, wood-beamed ceilings and views over the ancient Arco dei Banchi. All this charm, and it's less than a fifteen-minute walk to the Pantheon. What's not to like?

You'll find all your home comforts at this top-floor apartment, with a few luxuries to remind you you're on holiday. Sink into plush double beds when you arrive and slip into a deep slumber, despite the central location. Located in a narrow street between Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Navona, Kalos is a great home if you want to explore Rome on foot. The insides of this home are immaculate and in spite of mixing several different styles, they create an atmosphere of comfort and luxury. You'll get a beautiful view of the city's skyline from the windows, and if you like an alfresco coffee in the morning, Kalos boasts not one, but two balconies. Take note –three of the five guests will be sleeping in the master bedroom without privacy between the two beds.

As you cross the elegant bridge over the Tiber, heading towards the bustling streets of Campo de’ Fiori, the presence of history and old-world wonder is palpable. And on this seven-minute route to your apartment, awe continues at home.

Arriving at this traditional 'via', the orange block stands out against the green leaves of the desert-like foliage lining the street. But while the exterior has a fairly understated facade, this is what really allows for the decor to pop. We recommend pouring yourself a glass of primitivo while you take a look around.

High ceilings, art in gilded frames adorning the walls, floral accents, and a shimmering chandelier create a sense of Italian opulence. But we love the quirkiness from the enourmous painting of a tiger and the trompe l'oeil marble fireplace – painted by the creative owner of this home. Take the rest of the bottle out to the sunny balcony, where you can peer out to the inner courtyard while the trees gently rustle in the breeze.

In the heart of the historic Rione Ponte neighbourhood, this apartment puts all of Rome's must-sees at your fingertips. Whether you want to visit Piazza Navona, The Pantheon, or St. Peter's Basilica, it's no problem – they're all about a ten-minute walk away. Back home, the double sofa bed offers flexibility if you're travelling in a larger group. The design is contemporary rather than charming, but the Juliet balcony is a nice, traditional touch (and the view is quintessentially Roman). While the kitchen is small, you'll find plenty of delicious eateries nearby – the climb up to the third floor is a great way to burn off all that pasta.

Once inside, you’re surrounded by heavyset original features, which draw you further into the atmosphere. The downside of these old buildings is the lack of natural light, but when that’s the case for every home around, it feels churlish to complain.
