The location of this apartment is great. It’s just a short walk from the Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Cavour, home to Italy’s Supreme Court. You can also visit the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica, which are also within walking distance. There’s a range of eateries in the locale, too, for when you want a rest from sightseeing. The bright open-plan living space back at this apartment also sleeps guests five and six on a comfy sofa bed. The main bedroom has an en-suite, while bedroom two has a small double bed. Your hosts are really helpful here as well – they can arrange a variety of services for you to make your stay in Rome super special.

The latter is handy as this home’s kitchen, whilst modern, has no oven (though there’s a hob and microwave). Another thing to note is that at full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the open-plan living room. This place is perfect for couples, small families, business professionals or anyone seeking an exclusive location in Rome.

This Prati pad is perfectly located for a trip to Rome. It's just a stone's throw from the River Tiber, only fifteen minutes or so from Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps. Closer to home, there's Castel Sant'Angelo and the neighbourhood's lively wine bars, boutiques, and gourmet restaurants. Part of an Umbertine palace, the apartment is equal parts modern and cosy. The living space isn't quite big enough for everyone, especially with the sofa bed in use. That said, with an eat-in kitchen and an array of comfortable bedrooms to retreat to, we think it does the job for groups wanting to be based in one of Rome's best locales.

With the Vatican just a ten-minute stroll away, homes in Rome don’t get much more central than this. Located in the upscale Prati district – known for its shopping – you’ll find traditional trattorias, modern pizzerias, and an array of bars nearby. And for exploring the rest of the city, Lepanto Metro station is a short walk away. The home itself is located in a 1930s building, complete with an original Art Deco entrance hall, overlooking an inner courtyard. We love the mix of period features and contemporary decor here. We think this city pad is a great choice for anyone wanting a quieter base with easy access to Rome’s must-see sights.

Set in the heart of Rome's lively Prati district, this stylish apartment is a real crowd-pleaser. For those larger groups of friends or extended families looking to explore the Eternal City, you'll have four bright and colourful bedrooms to relax in, knowing the cultural attractions and iconic sights are right outside. Despite the lack of seating in the living-come-dining room, each bedroom offers a unique space to unwind. Styled in a chic 50s theme with vibrant colours, bold wallpaper prints and mid-century furnishings, the rooms also come with plenty of space. Each one has its own look, filled with vintage paraphernalia, from records to typewriters (they also each have a TV – the flat isn’t entirely faithful to the 50s). The bathrooms are well-designed and metro tiled, while the kitchen’s equipped for home meals – but you’re in one of the restaurant hotspots (as if anywhere in Rome isn’t a restaurant hotspot), and there are some great places to eat very nearby. Visit the Castel Sant'Angelo for a cultural day trip, just ten minutes (on foot) from your front door or head to the Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, less than a twenty-minute walk away.

With wooden shuttered windows and an earthy terracotta glow, the exterior screams Rome. However, inside the apartment, generously proportioned communal spaces offer a contemporary vibe, with gleaming marble floors, a cool mint and light blue colour scheme, and modern furnishings throughout.

However, it seems to fly under the radar of most visitors, so you can browse the exclusive boutiques that line Cola di Rienzo (300m away) unbothered by gaggles of tourists. Step off the main thoroughfare and you'll discover low-key neighbourhood haunts and cool kerbside cafes where you can while away an afternoon over a long lunch.

Part of the joy of visiting Rome is being in the thick of things – busy side-street eateries, crowds clamouring to see the sights, and dodging Vespas as you explore the city. This property is in the perfect location.

There are two apartments, making this ideal for groups of friends who want some space. The first is decorated with an eye-catching nod to Pop Art and street artists like Banksy, while the second taps into the romance of Rome with soft pastel shades and an elegant feel. 

You’re close enough to everything to explore on foot, but for those days when the heat is a little too much, you’ll be glad to be a three-minute walk from the Lepanto metro stop. You’re also in an area rife with restaurants, cafes and bars, so you don’t need to travel far for an exquisite meal or a chilled glass of wine. 

We like to start our day with a spot of people watching. Walk twelve minutes to Piazza del Popolo for a cappuccino with a view. From there, maybe you’ll tick off the Trevi Fountain – it’s fifteen minutes on the metro  – or meander the twenty-two minutes to the Spanish Steps. The Roman Forum is thirty-six minutes from the apartment – you’ll want to spend at least a couple of hours there, so pop into a trattoria for a pizza on the way. 

After a busy day in the bustling city, you’ll be glad to return to the apartment. Crack open a cold beer on the balcony in the late afternoon to soak up the atmosphere. After a brief respite, you’ll be ready to hit the town again.

Cascades is an interesting place - functional and modern, with a few features that really set it apart, like the sleek fireplace in the bedroom. There’s also a stunning bathroom with a three-metre-high, chromotherapy-enabled shower. The design might come across as a bit cold, given the expanses of white and the lack of artwork, but the bed is really comfy, and there’s always the home cinema system to keep you entertained..

While you can’t actually see the Vatican walls from Three Stags, turn right out of the door and walk about twenty metres and they’re right there. It’s a great location, which is fitting as it’s a great flat. Rather than seeking to preserve a crumbling old flat, Valeria’s recently redone the whole place, updating it without losing the character of the original place. There’s tonnes of space, given that it only has one bedroom, so having a couple of extra people sleeping in the living room is no problem (though three might be a squeeze).

It's the same walking distance to the boutiques in Via Cola di Rienzo, as well as the Trionfale Market with its food and flower stalls. If you want to explore some more of Rome's well-known attractions, take a twenty-minute stroll to Castel Sant'Angelo, with its rooftop views over the city. Back at this home – it's comfortable and well-designed, with a calming colour scheme that is just what you need after a hectic day exploring the city. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the balcony or catch up on some work if need be (it's fully equipped for remote working). However, what really sets it apart is the host Angela, whose willingness to go the extra mile can help ensure you have a truly great experience.

Nestled in popular Prati, this home is a great choice for an authentic stay in Rome. By day, you can enjoy an espresso in one of the local cafes, browse the shops along Via Cola di Rienzo, and stroll to the Vatican. And by night, an array of alfresco wine bars, cocktail lounges and gourmet restaurants await. The home itself is full of character, with period furnishings sitting alongside modern conveniences. It’s worth noting that while the home sleeps eight, the dining table only seats four to six, and there isn’t sofa space for everyone. If that’s not a deal-breaker, we think this home would suit a family or group of friends wanting to be in the heart of the city.

This second-floor apartment in a Prati building dating back to the 1940s illustrates how to incorporate some eccentricity into a home's interior design without going overboard. Colourful pieces of artwork, gold motifs and boldly patterned feature walls pop off satisfyingly against the white walls, while the silverback gorilla in the living room is a playful addition. The kitchen and bathrooms play it relatively simple in comparison but are equally notable for their high quality — we especially liked the whirlpool bathtub. The location is another plus point in our books. Castel Sant'Angelo and the surrounding Parco della Mole Adriana are only ten minutes' walk away, while Vatican City takes about a quarter of an hour to reach on foot.

In picturesque Borgo, this apartment puts you a short walk away from icons like Castel Sant'Angelo and St. Peter's Basilica. Sidewalk cafes, local eateries, and cobblestone streets are the norm in this location, and you’re not far on foot from all the major tourist attractions. When you’re not out and about, however, make yourself comfortable back home. White and brown tiles add a whimsical touch to the practical living space – though it’s worth noting that two guests will sleep on the double sofa bed. The other two bedrooms have Netflix and plenty of space, making this a great option for families and small groups of friends.

We love this location – the area's many wine bars and gourmet eateries are a stone's throw away, as is the Vatican when you're in the mood to sightsee. Juliet balconies overlook the pretty streets back home, pairing nicely with the sleek and minimalist interiors. The sofa bed can accommodate two guests, making it ideal for short stays. You'll also have access to a private terrace – it may not have any views, but it's still a pleasant spot to unwind in the evenings.

Set in the historic San Pietro quarter of Rome, this is as close to Vatican City as it gets. Explore the elegant, ancient streets of the neighbouring Prati district or make a beeline for the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Square – just footsteps away. Need to be someplace fast? Ottaviano Metro is one minute from your door. Back home, the interiors are faultless, although there are some compromises to make here. If four guests stay, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa-bed in the lounge, and the only bathroom is en-suite. But we'll let that slide for such a practical, central base in the city.

Right on this apartment’s street, there’s a range of restaurants, gelaterias and cafés to choose from – we think this is a wonderful location. After all that sightseeing, you’ll need somewhere super comfortable to return to. If you don’t fancy eating out for dinner, cook some pasta and enjoy at the dining table, next to the window with views across the neighbourhood. The bedrooms, with little touches like the distressed metal lights, and warm parquet floors, make for a charming retreat. We’re particularly fond of the dining table’s colourful metal chairs and the fire-engine red Smeg fridge that all add dashes of vibrancy to the warehouse aesthetic here. 
 
The bedroom is equally as stylish with its comfortable bed and handy desk, while the bright red bathroom offers a luxurious wake-up with its rainfall shower. 
 
With a communal garden and terrace space that beckons alfresco meals and celebratory sundowners as well, you’re all set for a carefree time. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, you’re ideally placed too with Piazza del Popolo a twelve-minute stroll, Castel Sant'Angelo an eighteen-minute walk and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City twenty-four minutes away on foot. You’re also a fourteen-minute walk from beautiful Villa Borghese and its manicured gardens, while all around you, Prati’s high-end boutiques, open-air wine bars, stylish cocktail lounges, and gourmet restaurants wait to be discovered.

Placed right in the beating heart of the upmarket Prati district, and just steps away from the Vatican, it’s hard to imagine a better location for this stylish apartment with a terrace. Regular visitors to Rome will know that Prati, perched above the Vatican and across the Tiber, is the place to be. Within its wide, sweeping avenues and elegant buildings, there's high-end shopping and cool restaurants aplenty, but less of the crowds. Back at home, you’ll be surprised how spacious and light this home feels, thanks to those lofty, exposed beam ceilings and doors opening out onto a terrace (a rare treat for a property this central). 

Over the Tiber

An air of quality greets you as you enter Curiosità. It’s well-designed and immaculately kept - you can really tell that the host is proud of this place - from the calming living room to the uncluttered kitchen. The mountains of cushions and the jacuzzi give the apartment a touch of the high-life, and the guest a chance to sit back and luxuriate after a long day. The only thing missing is a balcony, or some other sort of outside space, but making use of that would require tearing yourself away from the massive beds in the first place.

If you're a group heading to Rome, or perhaps two families travelling together, this home offers a colourful, arty alternative to run-of-the-mill apartments. With their own entrance accessed through an outer gate and a small outside space where you can sip coffee in the morning, they've been recently renovated with artistic flair. 

The one-bedroom apartment sleeps up to four, thanks to a sofa bed in the lounge, and this one is mainly decked out in red and black. High ceilings and a brick-effect wall make for a bright, fun place to put your feet up at the end of the day, and we particularly love the neon sign and touches of Americana. Meanwhile, the other apartment is an ode to monochrome, with modern, designer furniture and a minimalist feel. Both have open-plan living spaces with dining tables and fully-equipped kitchens, and both have sleek, stylish bathrooms.

Just a short stroll from the nearest Metro station, it's just a couple of stops to the centre of the city, a twelve-minute walk across the bridge to Piazza del Popolo, or a half-hour walk to Vatican City.

Urban Duet

Clean and minimalist are often used as euphemisms for uninspirational and bland – a safe choice that won’t offend but won’t excite either. However, your host Luca has managed the not insignificant task of creating a simple, calm interior that still manages to evoke emotion. It’s also practical – with two bathrooms, it feels like the sofa bed is a feasible option rather than thrown in to inflate the guest count. The location is a twenty-minute walk from the Vatican and convenient for exploring further afield on the metro, with the likes of the Colosseum within a twenty-five-minute journey. With elegant buildings, neatly designed streets, and residential charisma, Prati mixes the charm of classic Rome with the pace of a bustling business district.

You can tell that someone who loves to travel owns this wonderful apartment – every corner features a charming curio collected from somewhere fabulous. The result is a stylish and eclectic home that’s the perfect base for a truly authentic Roman holiday. 

The crowds of tourists are kept at a slight distance, across the river. This apartment can be found in Prati, a neighbourhood that’s favoured by the well-heeled locals. There are bars, restaurants and shops all within a stone’s throw of the apartment building, and the Lepanto metro station is a mere eight-minute walk away so when you’re ready to see the sights, it’s as easy as can be. 

Start your day by tucking into pastries and coffee on the terrace. There are glorious views of the Vatican, which is just a twenty-four-minute walk away. Watch the streets below come to life while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. After visiting the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, perhaps you’ll stroll to Sant’Angelo Bridge – it’s nineteen minutes away. Decide which of the restaurants you pass you’ll return to for dinner, and definitely indulge in a scoop or two of gelato. 

Depending on your stamina, everything is within walking distance but in those peak summer months, you’ll be grateful for how easy it is to explore on the metro. The journey to the Pantheon takes twenty-one minutes. After a day spent touring around the historic sights, the apartment is a delightfully chilled-out space to return to. Sit on the terrace as the sun sets, sipping wine – city breaks don’t get better than this.
