With the Vatican just a ten-minute stroll away, homes in Rome don’t get much more central than this. Set in the heart of Rome's lively Prati district, this stylish apartment is a real crowd-pleaser. For those larger groups of friends or extended families looking to explore the Eternal City, you'll have four bright and colourful bedrooms to relax in, knowing the cultural attractions and iconic sights are right outside. Despite the lack of seating in the living-come-dining room, each bedroom offers a unique space to unwind. Styled in a chic 50s theme with vibrant colours, bold wallpaper prints and mid-century furnishings, the rooms also come with plenty of space. Each one has its own look, filled with vintage paraphernalia, from records to typewriters (they also each have a TV – the flat isn’t entirely faithful to the 50s). The bathrooms are well-designed and metro tiled, while the kitchen’s equipped for home meals – but you’re in one of the restaurant hotspots (as if anywhere in Rome isn’t a restaurant hotspot), and there are some great places to eat very nearby. Visit the Castel Sant'Angelo for a cultural day trip, just ten minutes (on foot) from your front door or head to the Piazza Navona and the Pantheon, less than a twenty-minute walk away.

At this Prati penthouse, exploring Rome is a breeze. The Vatican Museums are 700 metres away, St. Peter's Basilica is a fifteen-minute stroll, and the nearest metro station is five minutes on foot. You'll find plenty of wine bars and trendy eateries nearby, too. Back home, the contemporary living area has a double sofa bed for two. A well-appointed kitchen is ideal for rustling up breakfast before heading out. Though the second bedroom and both showers are a little snug, we think the location more than makes up for it.

There are two apartments, making this ideal for groups of friends who want some space. The first is decorated with an eye-catching nod to Pop Art and street artists like Banksy, while the second taps into the romance of Rome with soft pastel shades and an elegant feel. 

You’re close enough to everything to explore on foot, but for those days when the heat is a little too much, you’ll be glad to be a three-minute walk from the Lepanto metro stop. You’re also in an area rife with restaurants, cafes and bars, so you don’t need to travel far for an exquisite meal or a chilled glass of wine. 

We like to start our day with a spot of people watching. Walk twelve minutes to Piazza del Popolo for a cappuccino with a view. From there, maybe you’ll tick off the Trevi Fountain – it’s fifteen minutes on the metro  – or meander the twenty-two minutes to the Spanish Steps. The Roman Forum is thirty-six minutes from the apartment – you’ll want to spend at least a couple of hours there, so pop into a trattoria for a pizza on the way. 

After a busy day in the bustling city, you’ll be glad to return to the apartment. Crack open a cold beer on the balcony in the late afternoon to soak up the atmosphere. After a brief respite, you’ll be ready to hit the town again.

We can't get enough of this apartment's prime location in the Borgo Vittorio area. Just a five-minute stroll from St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, while being ten minutes on foot from the Ottaviano Metro stop, you'll be all set up for a fuss-free sightseeing trip. Inside, both bedrooms are equipped with en-suite bathrooms which will help to speed mornings along. Just keep in mind that the kitchen lacks an oven or a hob, so it's only suitable for preparing light bites. That said you're in the heart of Italy, so eating out will definitely be on the cards here. It's also worth noting that you'll need to climb a flight of stairs to reach the apartment.

The living space isn't quite big enough for everyone, especially with the sofa bed in use. This second-floor apartment in a Prati building dating back to the 1940s illustrates how to incorporate some eccentricity into a home's interior design without going overboard. Colourful pieces of artwork, gold motifs and boldly patterned feature walls pop off satisfyingly against the white walls, while the silverback gorilla in the living room is a playful addition. The kitchen and bathrooms play it relatively simple in comparison but are equally notable for their high quality — we especially liked the whirlpool bathtub. The location is another plus point in our books. Castel Sant'Angelo and the surrounding Parco della Mole Adriana are only ten minutes' walk away, while Vatican City takes about a quarter of an hour to reach on foot.

You can’t visit Rome without visiting the Vatican City – luckily this stylish abode is just a five-minute stroll to St. Peter's Square. It’s also only a ten-minute walk to the Vatican Museums, as well as Castel Sant'Angelo with its large roof terrace offering breathtaking views across the city. Right on this apartment’s street, there’s a range of restaurants, gelaterias and cafés to choose from – we think this is a wonderful location. After all that sightseeing, you’ll need somewhere super comfortable to return to. If you don’t fancy eating out for dinner, cook some pasta and enjoy at the dining table, next to the window with views across the neighbourhood. The bedrooms, with little touches like the distressed metal lights, and warm parquet floors, make for a charming retreat. So, when in Rome, if you want the perfect setting, combined with a comfortable home, look no further.

Get a taste for Rome circa 1954 in this old-school apartment. Black and white tile, red leather chairs, mahogany bureaus and vintage prints all play into Vintage Taupe's subtle retro-vintage vibes. Though you might not have panoramic views of the city from here, you'll be primely located in Prati, one of Rome's most fashionable neighbourhoods and modern epicentres.

Set in the historic San Pietro quarter of Rome, this is as close to Vatican City as it gets. Explore the elegant, ancient streets of the neighbouring Prati district or make a beeline for the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Square – just footsteps away. Need to be someplace fast? Ottaviano Metro is one minute from your door. Back home, the interiors are faultless, although there are some compromises to make here. If four guests stay, the last two guests will have to make do with the sofa-bed in the lounge, and the only bathroom is en-suite. But we'll let that slide for such a practical, central base in the city.

Embracing Rome's identity as the world's oldest city, Glass Bonbon stands out for its stunning classical interiors featuring marble floors, antique furniture, glass chandeliers and traditional tapestry curtains. Elegant Roman touches adorn every room and incorporate Rome's vast history into the home's design. We particularly love the main living room's parlour-like entrance which gives way to an open space and its own bureau – perfect for guests who work remotely. Looking up at the high ceilings, notice the stunning artistic plasterwork – you'll discover that many of the original architectural features have been restored and protected over the years. When you've soaked it all up at home, it's time to venture and explore more of Rome's extensive history and breathtaking architecture. You'll be a twenty-five-minute metro journey from the city's iconic Colosseum and the ancient ruins of Rome, and even closer to Castel Sant'Angelo – a twelve-minute walk away. 



Glass Bonbon

If you're a group heading to Rome, or perhaps two families travelling together, this home offers a colourful, arty alternative to run-of-the-mill apartments. With their own entrance accessed through an outer gate and a small outside space where you can sip coffee in the morning, they've been recently renovated with artistic flair. 

The one-bedroom apartment sleeps up to four, thanks to a sofa bed in the lounge, and this one is mainly decked out in red and black. High ceilings and a brick-effect wall make for a bright, fun place to put your feet up at the end of the day, and we particularly love the neon sign and touches of Americana. Meanwhile, the other apartment is an ode to monochrome, with modern, designer furniture and a minimalist feel. Both have open-plan living spaces with dining tables and fully-equipped kitchens, and both have sleek, stylish bathrooms.

Just a short stroll from the nearest Metro station, it's just a couple of stops to the centre of the city, a twelve-minute walk across the bridge to Piazza del Popolo, or a half-hour walk to Vatican City.

Urban Duet

An air of quality greets you as you enter Curiosità. It’s well-designed and immaculately kept - you can really tell that the host is proud of this place - from the calming living room to the uncluttered kitchen. The mountains of cushions and the jacuzzi give the apartment a touch of the high-life, and the guest a chance to sit back and luxuriate after a long day. The only thing missing is a balcony, or some other sort of outside space, but making use of that would require tearing yourself away from the massive beds in the first place.
