Since 1869, the Campo de' Fiori has been a hub of market trading for fresh fruit, vegetables, and flowers. And by evening, this charming square becomes a hub of alfresco dining spots and wine bars. With that in mind, this studio apartment is pretty convenient, at less than a minute away. But if you want to keep busy rather than relaxing with a glass of chianti, you’ll find palaces, museums, and statues all around – such as the Museo di Scultura Antica Giovanni Barracco, two minutes away. However, we feel that this home is somewhat of a landmark itself. As you step inside, you can help but be taken aback by the striking timber ceiling. These thick, rustic beams ooze old-world Italy, transporting you back in time. But with modern twists from minimalist furniture and quirky artworks, there’s an elegant clash of eras which makes this studio feel unique. We love the luxe touches like the marble kitchen sink and bathroom, although your host can provide an even better VIP experience. After being picked up by your private driver from the airport, you might fancy taking up their offer of a wine tasting tour or ride on a classic Vespa.

Just a few steps away from the hive of activity that is the Campo de’ Fiori square and its market lies Starry Eyes, a spread-out apartment with ample space for large groups of friends and friends. Brightly lit, the tall windows overlooking Corso Vittorio Emanuele and Piazza San Pantaleo let in plenty of light throughout the day and fill the space with fresh air. We particularly love the antique dining table – be sure to share an Italian feast of dreams when it comes to mealtimes. Despite the home's central location, you'll find peace and quiet here, making it the perfect escape to return to after a day of pizza-fuelled sightseeing. Having said that, you won't have to venture far to discover the treasures of Rome – as you'll be stationed just 500 metres away from Piazza Navona and 600 metres away from the Pantheon.

The palazzo that houses this apartment is something to behold. It's a wonderfully historic building that backs onto a little square and housed renowned American expressionist painter Cy Twombly for a good part of his later life. Once inside, the apartment is simple and traditional but elegant. There are plenty of eye-catching original features on display, including the stunning exposed beam ceiling and open fireplace, It lacks the personal effects of a lived-in home, which will appeal to those who tend to find Roman apartments on the busy side, but your hosts made your comfort their number one priority – the beds (and linens in particular) feel very luxurious and make getting up in the morning that little bit trickier. Explore the labyrinth of streets and you'll find yourself a few minutes' walk from the River Tiber, a five-minute stroll from Piazza Campo de' Fiori and 550 metres from the stunning Piazza Navona.

This newly renovated home is just a two-minute stroll from Campo dei Fiori, with its daily market and array of cafes, bars and restaurants. St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City is under twenty minutes on foot. It's a few minutes more to the Trevi Fountain, and the Colosseum and Imperial Forum are about a thirty-minute walk or fifteen-minute ride. How's that for a Roman getaway?

Take some fresh produce back to this apartment and rustle up a carbonara and salad to enjoy at your dining table. After dinner, have a seat on the comfy chaise sofa and enjoy a glass of wine. This home is decorated in neutral mushroom hues, and the vases of flowers dotted around give the place a lovely homely feel – and we love the French doors, which allow light to flood in. Deep within the narrow, medieval streets of Rome, this period building hides a surprisingly modern apartment for up to five guests. It's not a huge space but it's been cleverly configured to make the most of what it has – and to make it feel comfortable and high-end at the same time. Decorated in on-trend whites, creams and greys, it's bright and fresh. The kitchenette is stowed away in a cupboard-like space in the living room and while it's perfect for the basics, it's not going to appeal to keen home cooks – but this is Rome, and some of the best restaurants, cafes and bars in the world are right on your doorstep. Our favourite feature of this home is the view onto the charming Piazza dei Satiri outside. And while we're talking location, the famous Campo de’ Fiori market is just around the corner.

You will need to climb up a steep flight of stairs to reach the entrance of the home and there are stairs inside, so we'd recommend packing light. Once you're up there, it's a cosy and welcoming pad to return to after sightseeing ventures. The kitchen is a little compact but well-equipped for preparing antipasti bites and pre-dinner snacks before heading into the city.

Centrally located in the eternal city of Rome, this home is a mere stone's throw from several iconic landmarks, including the Ponte Sisto, where you can overlook the Tiber. And some of those sights you might even spot from the balcony, though when it comes to the outdoor seating, we prefer the patio table in the shade of the pergola. As for the home, the rustic charm of the rafters and furnishings is sweet and well-kept. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

Between Regola and the medieval alleys of the old Jewish Quarter, this gorgeous apartment is set within a 14th-century building tucked out of the way in the heart of historic Rome. 

The interior is perfectly pieced together and designed with your needs in mind. We were big fans of the interior design, particularly the accent wallpaper that makes the green theme pop.

A well-equipped kitchen elevates your self-catering options – though with all that fantastic food on your doorstep, who's cooking? Finally, a gorgeous blue bedroom lends a sophisticated air to the apartment and an air of calmness and serenity to help you slip off speedily.

Down at street level, you'll find several cafes and restaurants just around the corner, while trendy Trastevere is just a five-minute stroll across the Ponte Garibaldi. Elsewhere, the historic shopping street, Via Giulia, is 500m from your front door, while the likes of Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum are all under a kilometre away.

Sitting on the right-hand side of the Tiber, the neighbourhood of Trastevere is an inimitable mix of history and character, much like this apartment. The building in which it sits dates back to the 14th century, although you wouldn't be able to guess that age from the fresh design of the interior.

In the main living space, a colour palette of neutrals makes the room feel bright and inviting, while there are brighter tones in the bedrooms that lend a sense of personality. When it comes to dinners, guests are treated to two kitchen spaces — a wooden-panelled room that doubles up as a dining area and an adjoining room with an induction cooker.

If rather than cooking, however, you fancy familiarising yourself with Roman cuisine, there's a huge choice of restaurants in the surrounding area. The city's famous attractions are not too far away, either — the Pantheon takes just over a quarter of an hour on foot to reach, while the Colosseum takes about double that.

A quirky base in Rome, this home is the attic of a building, so sits amid Rome’s rooftops. This means there are a lot of stairs to climb – it’s not going to be suitable for everyone and isn’t recommended for children under the age of six. But if you can manage the stairs, you’re rewarded with a charming home-from-home. The apartment even boasts a private terrace – the perfect spot for alfresco dining – and is next to a chapel designed by Raphael in the 1500s. You’ll share your outside space with the original bell tower. Seeing more of Rome’s architecture and history is a breeze, as you’re within walking distance of all the main attractions, including Campo de’ Fiori – just a five-minute stroll.

This eccentric home is a little gem on the edge of Regola and overlooking the Campo de' Fiori market. It occupies the top floor of a historic fifteenth-century building that once belonged to Vannozza dei Cattanei, courtesan and lover of Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, whose family crest still adorns the outside. There's no getting away from the fact that the living room is small, but there is just about space for an extra person on the bed. Really, though, this flat is all about the bedroom. The wallpaper is the first thing you notice, but pretty much every detail has been carefully thought through, and they all come together wonderfully. The host, Paola, lives on the same floor of the building, so she's always close by should you need anything during your stay.

We’ll admit it; an apartment this big in central Rome is a rare find indeed. Add in an attentive host, rooftop views and stylish decor and you know you’re onto a winner. The living area is a social space, perfect for big groups who want to spend time together. White, leather L-shaped sofas create the chill-out lounge and a mulberry-purple kitchen has everything you need to cook up a feast. Bedrooms are a medley of mezzanine spots and private king-size suites. The real boon is you’re looking out over Piazza Sforza Cesarini here, the heart of the action in the central Ponte neighbourhood. A seven-minute walk sees you at the pavement cafés and buzzing bars of Piazza Navona, and the ancient site of the Pantheon is fifteen minutes on foot.

Located on the fourth floor of a historic Roman building, you won't get much more central than this apartment. You'll find the beautiful Piazza Navona, the market at Campo de' Fiori, and landmarks like the Pantheon within easy walking distance – not to mention an array of restaurants and museums. The extensive library and multiple desks here are great for staying productive, while the main bedroom enjoys its own small en-suite. To make the most of your stay, your host can also arrange services like airport transfers and breakfast deliveries, as well as unique experiences like Vespa tours and cooking classes.

Although you might not have great impressionist painters philosophising in your sitting room, you’ll be inspired by the life this cosy home has lived – hopefully in such a way that it sparks something creative within you. Writers can take to the small desk to let that creativity spill out onto the page, artists can sketch by the light of the lounge window, cooks can whip up innovative new recipes in the compact kitchen, and musicians, well, the piano is waiting for your brand new melody. 

In case you need a muse, the entirety of The Eternal City is waiting for you. Venture to the Pantheon in five minutes or stroll twenty-minutes away to explore Vatican City. Piazza Navona with its 16th century marble fountain, is at the end of a five-minute walk  – sit there contemplating as you watch people go by as you nurse a cappuccino. Don’t forget to swing by the pastry shop on your way home for some of the freshest cannelloni and five flavours of tiramisu.

Halfway between Trastevere and Campo de’ Fiori, and footsteps from the banks of the River Tiber, this apartment is enviably located. Inside, the place has been tastefully finished with relaxation in mind. Furnishings in rich brown are complemented by pops of teal and subtle gold accents. There’s a comfy L-shaped sofa that calls for reclining with a good book and a dining nook should you fancy taking your meals at home. Take a walk through Rome’s historic streets. You’ll reach the Spada Gallery and the old-school trattorias of Via del Pellegrino in five minutes by foot, the Moor Fountain in ten and the Pantheon in fifteen. To reach the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, catch a taxi and arrive in just over ten minutes or opt to wander through the city and reach them in a leisurely thirty.

Teal on the Tiber

From Dusk Herald, the Vatican, Piazza Navona and Trastevere are all easily reachable on foot. You’ve also got the Tiber just around the corner – it’s hard to overstate just how well-placed the flat is. Inside it’s simple, but with a pretty wooden ceiling upstairs, and lots of light. The kitchen is a little beige, but we did like the geometric wallpaper. We also noticed a lot of birdsong coming through the windows, which added a lovely, bucolic feel to the place.

This charming apartment is in a prime spot in the heart of Navona. It's located down a quiet cobbled street, so you'll be able to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine from the private courtyard while still being close to the city's sights. You're within walking distance of Campo de' Fiori where you can pick up fresh local produce, while Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Vatican City are a short Metro ride away. At home, whip up cocktails in the stylish bar or prepare group meals in the fully equipped kitchen – there's plenty of space to unwind and entertain, though one person will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room. 


The Roman Highlight

Nestled in the heart of the historic centre and just a few steps from the Campo de Fiori market and the Majestic Piazza Navona, this apartment promises a comfortable retreat for a memorable city stay. Pastel-hued and characterful in style, the open-plan living space is a treat for a large group. The bedrooms will suit a close group, with a double and a single sharing one bedroom and a semi-open plan fifth bedroom – that said, with Rome’s sights on your doorstep, you’ll be springing out of bed in the morning to experience the sights. The Pantheon, Saint Peter and the Imperial Forum, and Museo di Roma are within walking distance, as are the city’s best boutiques and restaurants.

A Roman Retreat

Right between Piazza Navona and Campo de’ Fiori, Refosco is in a bustling location, but inside it’s peaceful. Rich colours and plants, along with lots of decoration, create the interior design equivalent of a hug. The layout means that it’s perhaps best suited to families, or at least people who are comfortable being in close proximity, but if that doesn’t pose a problem, then it’s got a lot going for it.

Location is where Noon Herald sets itself apart. It’s at the centre of a triangle that has the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and Trastevere as its points. The other big draw is the structure of the flat, with a double-height ceiling and the sloping beams – these help balance out the slightly spartan furniture elsewhere. It would be a good place for someone who is more used to hotels, as there are several services that are more commonly associated with them, such as daily bed turning and clean towels on request.


Noon Herald

Perched along a quiet cobbled street on the outskirts of bustling Campo de' Fiori, you'll find this Italian villa apartment. While the caramel-coloured exterior and lofty ceilings inside show the bones of this period building, the rest of the apartment is expertly reimagined for modern living. Peer out through the lounge's dual aspect windows with your morning coffee to reveal charming vignettes of balconies tumbling with greenery –⁠ precisely as you'd imagine a traditional Italian street to be. And thanks to its quiet residential locale, you'll be sure to bank a peaceful night's sleep in the pristine bedroom. When it's time to soak up the Roma culture, get off to a flying start with a stroll along Via Giulia (three minutes on foot) –⁠ one of the most beautiful streets in Rome and the perfect spot for a sociable aperitivo. Or for something a little more refined, you're right in the heart of the gourmet district with three Michelin-starred restaurants just a three-minute jaunt away. And there's plenty of local favourites to be found over the river amidst the medieval streets of Trastevere (ten minutes on foot) –⁠ worth the stroll alone to take in those sunset views over the Ponte Sisto. A former 17th-century trading station, this characterful building now houses cosy apartments that hark back to the neighbourhood's heritage. With original timber ceilings, shuttered windows overlooking the city streets and hexagonal tiled floors, this flat radiates Roman ambience. But rainfall showers, a sleek kitchen and sumptuous sofas provide plenty of 21st-century comforts. Rustle up antipasti and share it around the roomy dining table alongside a bottle of Italy's finest wine – or, if you're not up for cooking, arrange for a private chef to prepare a delicious feast for you. There's a desk in the living area that's perfect for business travellers, while the comfortable bedrooms are just the ticket after a long day exploring Rome's lively streets.

Fingertips is in a great position, close to both the Jewish Quarter and Campo de’ Fiori, the home of Rome’s most famous market. The layout of the flat makes it quite a flexible proposition – if the living room needs to be used as a bedroom, it can be closed off from the other communal areas, and you wouldn’t know it wasn’t permanent (except for the sofa bed). All in all, it’s a cute flat, with some nice period furniture, but it’s the location that really lifts it to the next level.


Fingertips

This unique home is ideal for large groups. It’s a whole building divided into four separate apartments, so up to eighteen guests can stay together while also having their own space – though four guests will be sleeping on sofa beds. The steep stone stairs aren’t suitable for those with reduced mobility – or heavy suitcases – but those stairs mean that the views from the outside spaces are pretty special. Best of all, you’re just a short stroll from the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, with all the sights of the city within easy reach.

Housed in a former church in Rome’s scenic Jewish Quarter, this home is full of characterful details and historic charm, as well as being just a ten-minute stroll from picturesque Piazza Navona. Inside, rustic traditionalism meets quirky stylings, with a good dose of classic elegance thrown in for good measure. We love the arched windows here and the old Roman column with its elegant capital along the wall. You'll have access to the plush lounge area adorned with umbrellas to keep you shaded and stunning views out onto the ancient architecture below. Order a drink and debrief on your day's adventures before freshening up and heading out again for a feast of local Italian cuisine at one of the nearby restaurants of Piazza Navona, just a short five-minute walk away. Habitat has a lot going for it. Beyond the incredible location (Via di Monserrato is considered one of the most beautiful streets in the city), it’s in good condition, has high ceilings, excellent parquet floors, and whitewashed ceiling beams. The kitchen brings the average down a little – you wouldn’t want to plan on cooking a dinner party in there – but apart from that, it’s a very comfortable, practical flat.

Portal doesn’t try to do anything out of the ordinary. Rather, it takes the basics of a good flat and ensures that they are all spot on. The end result is a bright flat, with high ceilings, some original features and decent furniture. The acrylic Kartell chairs contrast nicely with the largely traditional vibe, and while the kitchen could stand to be redone, it’s still functional. Finally, it’s worth mentioning how fantastic the location is. Both Campo de’ Fiori market and Piazza Navona are nearby, and the streets are an excellent example of the city’s medieval architecture.
